Mary Alice Gares Bruno
Mrs. Bruno, 65, of South Brunswick died Nov. 2 at home. Born in New Brunswick, she resided there and the Franklin Park section of Franklin Township prior to moving to South Brunswick in 1987. She was executive director at the Middlesex County Medical Society, East Brunswick, for 27 years, retiring in 2002. She was a member of the Middlesex County Medical Society Foundation and a graduate of Somerset Hospital School of Nursing. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis C. Bruno Sr. in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Francis C. Bruno Jr. of Somerset, and Glenn Bruno of Howell; two daughters, Mary Lee Bruno of Chesterfield, and Madeline Michaylin of Franklin Park; three brothers, Walter Gares of Maryland, Robert Gares of Florida and William Gares of Delaware; and six grandchildren. Burial was at Van Liew Cemetery, North Brunswick. Arrangements were by Selvoer Funeral Home, North Brunswick. Demetrios Zacharatos
Mr. Zacharatos, 86, of Edison died Nov. 6 in Woodlands Terrace Nursing Home, Hernando, Fla. Prior to his retirement in 1980, he was a self-employed painter. Surviving are his wife, Bessie Poulos Zacharatos; a son, Basilis Zacharatos of the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick; three daughters, Stavroula Zacharias of Evia, Greece, Maria Zacharatos of Monroe and Theodora Zacharatos of Old Bridge; a brother, Spyros Zacharatos of New Port Richie, Fla.; four sisters, Eleni Birbilis, Maria Agelatos and Milanthi Tsakiris, all of Athens, Greece, and Stamo Stamatelos of Kefallinia, Greece; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment

Missie Anice Howard
Mrs. Howard, 70, of Freehold died Nov. 3 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Hardaway, Ala., she lived in Farmingdale before moving to Freehold 38 years ago. For 18 years she was an income maintenance technician for the Monmouth County Board of Social Services before retiring 15 years ago. She was a member of Old Ship of Zion Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabeth Chapter No. 20, both located in Englishtown. She was predeceased by her husband, Lester L. Howard, in 1978. Surviving are three sons, Arnold Hill Sr. of Farmingdale, and Lester L. and Eddie L. Howard, both of Freehold; a daughter, Geraldine Howard Conyers of Freehold; seven brothers, Curtis Hill and Carl Hill Sr., both of Freehold, Charlie Hill Jr. of Farmingdale, Douglas Hill and Larry Hill Sr., both of Neptune, Jack Hill of Lakewood and Perry Hill of the Dayton section of South Brunswick; four sisters, Thelma Ellington and Ruby Colbert, both of Freehold, Loretta Hayes of Jackson and Sarah Johnson of Newark; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Old Ship of Zion Baptist Church, followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine M. "Katie" Shemo
Mrs. Shemo, 80, of North Brunswick, died Nov. 7 at home. Born in Kingston, Pa., she resided in New Brunswick prior to moving to North Brunswick 12 years ago. She was a supervisor at Garry Manufacturing Co., New Brunswick, for 25 years, retiring in 1982. She was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick, where she was past president of the Altar Rosary Society and a member of St. Mary’s Golden Age Club. She was a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union and the North Brunswick Senior Citizens. Mrs. Shemo was predeceased by her husband, Andrew B. Shemo, in 1983. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Mary Ann Shemo of North Brunswick; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church, followed by interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton, Pa. Arrangements were by Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
Ellis N. "Bud" Wildoner
Mr. Wildoner, 71, of North Brunswick died Nov. 16 at CareOne at The Highlands, Edison. Born in Hunlocks Creek, Pa., he resided in North Brunswick the past 43 years. He was a plastics utility man at Delco-Remy, New Brunswick, for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Wildoner is survived by two sons, Ellis S. Wildoner of Jamesburg and Lynn R. Wildoner of Arizona; a daughter, Tracy L. Marchetta of Haddonfield; a brother, Fred Wildoner of Florida; two sisters, RuthAnn Phelan and Gloria Mahlon, both of Florida; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. A funeral service will be held Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. at Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick.
Giuseppe Joseph Salsa
Mr. Salsa, 86, of North Brunswick died Nov. 18 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Italy, he resided in New Brunswick prior to moving to North Brunswick in 1964. He was a carpenter at K&K Realty, New Brunswick, retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin Roman Catholic Church, New Brunswick. Mr. Salsa is survived by his wife, Lena Di Salvo Salsa; a daughter, Isabell Goodfriend of Skillman; a son, Domenick Salsa of North Brunswick; two sisters, residing in Italy; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be Nov. 20 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Selover Funeral Home, North Brunswick. A funeral service will be held Nov. 21 at 8:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Virgin Church. Entombment will be at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum, North Brunswick.
Frederick T. Rusay
Mr. Rusay, 83, died Nov. 11 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Prior to his retirement in 1983, he was a plant supervisor at Algro Knitting Mills, Milltown, where he worked for 40 years. Later, he was employed for 15 years by Maliszewski Memorial Home, Sayreville; Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville; and Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River. Surviving are his wife, Ann M. Rzucek Rusay; two sons, Mitch Rusay of East Brunswick and the Rev. Leonard F.A. Rusay, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Whitehouse Station section of Readington; and two grandsons. A Mass was offered at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Sayreville. Interment

David Thaler
Mr. Thaler, 63, of Naples, Fla., died Nov. 15. Born in Belleville, Thaler grew up there, then resided in Marlboro and Freehold Township. He was a former publisher of Greater Media Newspapers, which publishes the Sentinel, and a former vice president of the printing and publishing division of Greater Media Inc., the parent company of Greater Media Newspapers. Thaler founded the Bayshore Independent in 1970 and published it for 17 years until it was purchased by Greater Media Newspapers in 1987. The weekly newspaper focused on community news in the Bayshore area of Monmouth County - Keyport, Aberdeen, Hazlet, Keansburg and parts of Middletown. Thaler continued to work for Greater Media for five years. He became general manager of the Home News Tribune, East Brunswick, in 1996. At the Home News Tribune, he was responsible for advertising, circulation and news. He retired to Florida in 1999. Thaler was a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism. He was an avid sports fan who loved to play and teach tennis. He especially loved watching the New York Giants play football. He competed in area tennis tournaments and gave private tennis lessons at his home in Freehold Township. He enjoyed the time he spent coaching the Freehold Borough High School boys tennis team for several years in the early 1990s. Surviving are his wife, Sondra; two sons, Philip and Ian; a daughter, Fern; two sisters, Tina and Debbe; his mother, Ida; and his grandchildren, Renee and Ross. Services were held Nov. 18 at the Freeman Funeral Home, Manalapan. Interment was at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge.
