B. Roy Aravecz
Mr. Aravecz, 73, of the Lincroft section of Middletown died Dec. 13 at Blythe House, Tinton Falls. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Middletown 41 years. He was the owner/operator of Monmouth Exxon, Holmdel, for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He was a founding member of the Mater Dei Booster Club, New Monmouth, and an avid fisherman. He was predeceased by his wife, Anita Aravecz in 1992. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Claire and Edward Andia of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Cathy Aravecz of Lincroft, and John and Rondi Aravecz of Freehold; and four grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be held Dec. 17 at 8:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. James T. Conover
Mr. Conover, 43, of Keyport died Dec. 12 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Florida prior to moving to Keyport two years ago. He was a salesman at Home Depot, Hazlet, for five years. He served with the U.S. Navy during peacetime. He was predeceased by his father, James Conover, in 1994. He is survived by his son, Christopher James Conover of South Carolina; his daughter, Nicole Conover of South Carolina; his mother, Eileen Hogan Conover of Keyport; two sisters, Kelly Switzer of Sayreville and Sandra Conover of Virginia; his brother, Scott Conover of Lanoka Harbor; and two nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be Dec. 18 from 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport A funeral service will be Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at New Jersey Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.
Madeline "Maddi" C. Frank Hulsart
Mrs. Hulsart, 72, of Keyport died Dec. 15 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Keyport, she was a lifelong resident. She was a legal secretary for Alfred E. LaBrecque, Red Bank. Prior to that, she was a borough clerk for Keyport. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was a member of the Matawan Junior Woman’s Club. She was predeceased by her brother, George R. Frank, and her sister, Anna Fischler. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Andrew Hulsart of Keyport; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Harry Sobko, and Barbara and Jack Stankiewicz, all of Keyport; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be Dec. 17 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Dec. 18 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment
will be at Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan.
Evelyn Pendy
Mrs. Pendy of Middletown died Dec. 15 at Bayside Manor Assisted Living Facility, Keansburg. Born in St. Paul, Minn., she relocated to Middletown in 1984, and to Shadow Lake Village Condominium, Loch Arbor Way, Middletown, in 1994. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown, and also volunteered for several years at its thrift shop. She was also an avid golfer. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Pendy in 1980; and a sister, Mary La Voie. She is survived by her son, Bruce Pendy of Wyckoff; her daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Ron Wrucke of Middletown; her sister, Nadine Reilly of St. Paul, Minn.; her daughter-in-law, Joan Pendy of Middletown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral liturgy will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. Charles E. Widmaier
Mr. Widmaier, 75, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Dec. 1 at home. He was retired from NL Industries, Sayreville, and Fort Hancock and Earle Naval Base, Colts Neck, where he worked as a firefighter. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church, Middletown. He was a current member of Independent Fire Company, Belford section of Middletown, a former member of the West Keansburg Fire Company, and ex-chief of the Belford Engine Fire Company. He was a life member of the Middletown Township Fire Department, New Jersey State Firemen’s Association, and Middletown Exempt Firemen’s Association. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4303, Hazlet. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Anna Mae Wetjen Widmaier; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles J. and Bernadette Widmaier, and Thomas and Marianne Widmaier, all of Belford; a brother, John Sullivan of Highlands; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service was held at King of Kings Lutheran Church, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Christopher Dean Mares
Mr. Mares, 40, of Eatontown died Dec. 6 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Los Angeles, he resided in Hollister, Calif., before moving to Eatontown in 1988. Mr. Mares was a construction worker in the area. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Geraldine Roy Pride and Sheldon Pride of Eatontown; five brothers, Tom Mares of Kona, Hawaii, Mark Mares of Union, Alan Mares of Eatontown, Shannon Pride of Hollister, and Keith Pride of Lancaster, Calif.; three sisters, Sherry Smith-Kennedy of Maui, Hawaii, Jill Mares-Mosele of Vicenza, Italy, and Joy Ruiz of Hollister; and several nieces and nephews. The Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown, is in charge of arrangements. A gathering of remembrance will take place Dec. 13 from 1-3 p.m. at the Mares residence, 39 Park Ave., Eatontown. Margaret R. Connolly Dowd
Mrs. Dowd, 83, of Keyport died Dec. 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, she was a resident of Middletown for 70 years, prior to moving to Keyport nine years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was a member of the auxiliaries of American Legion Post No. 338, Leonardo section of Middletown, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6902, and past president of the auxiliary of the American Legion Post No. 143, Highlands. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John J. Dowd in 1992; three sisters, Catherine Sayre, Regina Konowitz and Berniece Ullman; and her brother, Thomas Walter Connolly. She is survived by three daughters, Rita McManus of Highlands, Patricia Carroll of Aberdeen, and Margaret Taintor of Florida; three sons, John M. Dowd of Piscataway, James Dowd of Florida, and Joseph Dowd of Union Beach; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Veronica S. Murphy
Mrs. Murphy, 56, of Middletown died Dec. 10 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, she resided in the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen prior to moving to Middletown six years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Murphy in 1983. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dawnmarie and Chris Briell of Washingtonville, N.Y.; her brother, Alexander Pawloski of Jensen Beach, Fla.; her sister, Vicky Roma of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Ann Murphy of Secaucus; and her grandson. Peter E. Vanoni
Mr. Vanoni, 64, of Hazlet, died Dec. 10 at home. Born in New York City, he resided there prior to moving to Hazlet 42 years ago. He was a boat builder at Silverton Mainship, Marlboro. Prior to that, he was a boat builder at Luhrs Boat Company, Marlboro, and worked in maintenance at Long Brook Apartments, Matawan. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. He is survived by two brothers, Joseph J. Vanoni of Hazlet, and Fred V. Vanoni of New York; two sisters, Dolores M. Robles of Miami, and Theresa DeCraene of Hazlet; and 11 nieces and nephews.
