George J. Uhrig
Mr. Uhrig, 45, of Matawan died Nov. 14 at home. He was born in Staten Island, N.Y. He was employed in the technical support department at Trisys Inc., Florham Park. He was a previous member and past captain of the Matawan First Aid Squad. He enjoyed time with his family and was an avid motorcyclist. He was predeceased by his mother, Yvonne Delores Uhrig. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Uhrig of Matawan; two sons, George and Joseph Uhrig, both Matawan; his father, George Uhrig; and his brother, Greg Uhrig of Matawan. A memorial gathering will be held at the Matawan First Aid Squad, with the date to be announced. Arrangements were by Bedle Funeral Home, Matawan.
Henry A. Gansereit
Mr. Gansereit, 73, of Middletown died Nov. 27 in Penfield, N.Y. Born in Newark, he resided in Irvington prior to moving to Middletown in 1960. He was a foreman at Grammer, Dempsey & Hudson Steel Co., Newark, where he was employed for 40 years before his retirement. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4303, West Keansburg section of Hazlet, and the American Legion, Brick. Mr. Gansereit is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret Gansereit; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Frank Richichi of Penfield, and Dawn and Michael Wehner of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Doris Gansereit of Barnegat, Todd and Tracy Gansereit of Brick, and James and Tracie Gansereit of Middletown; and 12 grandchildren. A funeral gathering will be held Dec. 3 at 10:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Entombment will be at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
Edward J. Swantek
Mr. Swantek, 71, of Highlands died Nov. 18 at home. Born in Scranton, Pa., he resided in Yonkers and New York City, N.Y., prior to moving to Highlands one year ago. He was a retired glazier. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Kochaman Swantek. He is survived by two sons, Steven Swantek and Andrew Swantek, both of Florida; three daughters, Diane Oszmanski of Florida, Jannean Oszmanski of Middletown, and Susan Swantek of Baltimore; his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Kelly of Highlands; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Interment
was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Robert J. Gibbs
Mr. Gibbs, 73, of West Milford died Nov. 29 at JFK Hospice, Edison. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Hazlet prior to moving to West Milford five years ago. He was a steam fitter at Local No. 638, New York City, for 40 years, retiring in 1991. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was predeceased by his wife, Therese D. Lynch Gibbs, in 1993. He is survived by three sons, Robert V. Gibbs of San Diego, Calif., Gregory C. Gibbs of Jackson, and Thomas P. Gibbs of Claysburg, Pa.; a daughter, Therese M. Heger of West Milford; two sisters, Frances Curtin of Parsippany and Carol Oberdeck of Metuchen; a brother, John Briody of Parlin; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment
will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of arrangements.
Ermine J. "Minnie" Cannizzaro Johnson
Mrs. Johnson, 83, of Holmdel died Nov. 24 at home. Born in Keyport, she resided there prior to moving to Holmdel two years ago. She was a manager at Westrieches, Keyport, where she was employed for 42 years before her retirement. She was a member of the Bayshore Auxiliary, Keyport. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Foley Wadington of Holmdel, and Patricia Magarino of Sparta; three sisters, Frances Frame of Red Bank, Ann Lanzaro of Holmdel, and Lillian VanDerwiel of Middletown; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Dec. 5 from 2-4 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A memorial service will be held Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Theodore C. Sari
Mr. Sari, 87, of Tinton Falls died Oct. 27 at Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls. Born in West Orange, he resided in Howell Township for more than 25 years before moving to Tinton Falls two years ago. He was a warehouse manager at Marine Drive Systems, Edison, retiring 25 years ago. Prior to that, he operated Sari’s Main Street Cleaners, East Orange, for 26 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Freehold. He was past president of the Freehold Kiwanis Club, and member of the Deborah Hospital Auxiliary and Local No. 151 American Federation of Musicians. He enjoyed bowling and playing the saxophone and clarinet. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Finn Sari of Tinton Falls; two daughters, Carol Andrews of Middletown, and Gail Kennedy of Mifflintown, Pa.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service was at Seabrook town square auditorium, Tinton Falls. Arrangements were by Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold. Helen Sheppard
Mrs. Sheppard, 88, of Red Bank died Nov. 28 at Arnold Walter Nursing Home, Holmdel. Born in Perth Amboy, she resided there before moving to Red Bank. She was employed at Jacobson, Goldfaub and Tanzman, Perth Amboy, before her retirement. Prior to that, she worked for the U.S. government at Raritan Arsenal for 20 years. She is survived by her husband, Sylvester T. Sheppard; seven stepdaughters; one stepson; and 19 grandchildren. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn P. Luker
Mrs. Luker, 96, of Onancock, Va., died Nov. 27 at home. She was born in the Belford section of Middletown. She was a teacher at Belford Elementary School and Leonardo Elementary School, Leonardo section of Middletown, for several years. She was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Belford. Mrs. Luker was predeceased by her husband, James Luker; a son, James Luker Jr.; a daughter, Ethel Becker; and four sisters, Jenny Snyder, Lydia Post, Alma Daley and Doris Hansen. She is survived by a son, David P. Luker of Onancock, Va.; a brother, John Post of Shrewsbury; seven granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. at John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
Frank J. Monprode
Mr. Monprode, 82, of Red Bank died Nov. 25 at home. Born in Jersey City, he resided in Monmouth County the past 50 years. He was the retired co-owner of M&S Vending Co., Newark, for 20 years. He also was a stagehand at Garden State Arts Center, Holmdel, for 17 years. He served with the U.S. Air Corps during World War II, and the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a communicant of Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2858, Keansburg. An avid swimmer, he was state champion and record holder in the backstroke, was on all-American teams in both high school and preparatory school, and coached high school swimming. He was predeceased by a son, Frank Monprode Jr., in 1996. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Ennis Monprode; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Susan Monprode of Rumson, and Mark and Susan Monprode of Middletown; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane and Terry McKeon of Middletown, Mary and Ernie VanPelt, and Ellen Monprode Arnold, all of Red Bank; a sister, Evelyn Cassels of Florida; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Church of the Nativity. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Interment
