Richard James Byrne Jr.
Mr. Byrne, 77, of Little Silver, died Aug. 6 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, he resided in Shrewsbury for 40 years before moving to Little Silver eight years ago. Mr. Byrne was the current manager of Concrete Resurfacing Inc., Shrewsbury. Prior to that, he was president of Walter C. Hurley Construction Co. Inc., Neptune. He served as a captain with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, where he was a former lector and past president of the parish council. Mr. Byrne was a member of the University of Notre Dame Alumni Board and the Diocese of Trenton Building Commission. He was also a member of the Notre Dame Club of the Jersey Shore and its Man of the Year in 1974. He also received the Fellowship Award for the Brotherhood of Christians and Jews. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Tierney. Mr. Byrne is survived by his wife of 51 years, Claire Maguire Byrne; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Marsha Byrne Jr. of Evanston, Ill., and Brother Frank Byrne, F.S.C. of the Lincroft section of Middletown; three daughters and sons-in-law, Regina and Jeff Ingrassia of Eatontown, Michele and Peter Visceglia of Red Bank, and Mary Clair and Greg Davis of Shrewsbury; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Jane Byrne; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Louise Murphy, and Barbara and John Schulte; a brother-in-law, Richard Tierney; and 15 grandchildren. was celebrated at St. James Church, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements.
Katherine Finnegan-White
Mrs. Finnegan-White, 50, of Red Bank and Hobe Sound, Fla., died Aug. 8 at home following a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a lifelong resident of the Red Bank area. She was a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School and the University of Florida, Gainesville. She was active with the American Cancer Society, Clean Ocean Action, ARC of Monmouth, the Fresh Air Fund, and other charitable groups. Mrs. Finnegan-White was predeceased by her father, John J. Finnegan; a brother, Richard A. Finnegan; and her mother-in-law, Marilyn J. White. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Kevin R. White; her mother, Joan S. Finnegan of Atlantic Highlands; three brothers, John H. Finnegan of Middletown, Michael J. Finnegan of Millstone, and Stephen C. Finnegan of Rumson; six sisters, Jane F. Kennedy of Keansburg, Jean F. Tureaud of Tinton Falls, Nora F. Brennan of Levittown, Pa., Mary F. Young of Shrewsbury, Susan Finnegan-Andersson of Sweden, and Margaret E. Finnegan of London; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Aug. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. Daniel V. Kelleher
Mr. Kelleher, 73, of Holmdel, died Aug. 10 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Middletown for several years before moving to Holmdel six years ago. He was manager at Hoegh Lines Agency, Jersey City, retiring in 1992. Prior to that, he was president at Viking Line Agency, New York City. Mr. Kelleher served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, John and the Rev. Dennis Kelleher. Mr. Kelleher is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary M. Kennedy Kelleher; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Stephen and Mary Kelleher of Middletown, Daniel and Janet Kelleher of Frisco, Texas, and Michael Kelleher of Tinton Falls; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Frank Whitley, and Mary and David Nelson, all of Middletown; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Margaret Kelleher and Mary O'Connell, both of Wantaugh, N.Y., Joan and Bob Ellis of Bayshore, N.Y., and Eileen and Jack Pareta of Stoney Point, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Margaret Kennedy, C.S.J., of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Barbara Kelleher of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 13 grandchildren. John B. Movelle, M.D.
Dr. John B. Movelle, 87, of Fair Haven, died July 21 at home. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Fair Haven for more than 50 years. He was a physician in the Red Bank area for more than 50 years and one of the last general practice physicians to make house calls, and volunteered at the Parker Clinic, Red Bank, following retirement. He also served as a physician for the fire, police and first aid units in Fair Haven and Rumson. He served as a physician in the U.S. Army in Oklahoma, and overseas in postwar Germany. He was a founding member and parishioner at Church of the Nativity, Fair Haven. He served as past president and chief of medicine at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, and the center established the John B. Movelle, M.D. Medical Library in 2004. He was a recipient of the Golden Merit Award from the Medical Society of New Jersey. His alma mater, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, also created the John B. Movelle family practice preceptorship program in his honor. He enjoyed time with his family, travel, golf and fishing. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Anne Dickmann Movelle in 2004; a son, Daniel in 1995; and four sisters, Marion, twins Rita and Estelle, and Leona. He is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth and the Honorable Terence Flynn of Little Silver, Jeanne Wagner of Rumson, and Mary Margaret Movelle of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Movelle of Naperville, Ill.; John P. and Debbie Movelle of Daphne, Ala.; and Richard and Mary Movelle of Tinton Falls; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Jean T. Jones Meenan
Mrs. Meenan, 74, of Middletown, died July 3 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she resided there before moving to Middletown 51 years ago. She was employed at AT&T;, New York City, several years ago. Mrs. Meenan was a past member of the PTA Board of St. Mary's School and the Altar Rosary Society of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Vincent Meenan; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel and Patricia Meenan, and David Meenan, all of Red Bank; a daughter and son-in-law, Eileen and Dr. Robert Marrow of Bloomingdale, Ohio; and seven grandchildren. Thomas Boylan
Mr. Boylan, 40, of Red Bank, died July 5 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was born in Jersey City. A graduate of Villanova (Pa.) University, he was vice president of sales and marketing at Shore Point Distributing Company, where he was employed for 20 years. He was a member of Boston Beer Distributor Alliance Committee. He was a supporter of The ARC of Monmouth County, and American Cancer Society. He was an avid fisherman, and a scuba diver who attained rescue diver status. He as predeceased by his mother, Edna. He is survived by his wife, Holly Ann Annarella Boylan; two children, Michael F.X. III and Cassidy Ann, both at home; his father, Michael F.X. Boylan Sr. of Point Pleasant; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael F.X. and Joanne Boylan Jr. of Lisle, Ill., and James J. and Jane Boylan of Highland Park, Ill.; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Ron Statile of White Plains, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Doris S. Kulawiec
Mrs. Kulawiec, 76, of Rumson, died July 19, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She resided in East Norriton, Pa., and Spring Lake, prior to relocating to Rumson. She was a communicant of Holy Cross Church, Rumson. She enjoyed travel, cooking, gardening and time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, John Gross 16 years ago. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Frederick "Fred" Kulawiec; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Joseph Belmonte, and Nancy and Gregory Maloof, all of Fair Haven; and four grandchildren. James E. Egan
Mr. Egan, 70, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and formerly Fair Haven, died July 19, 2007, at home. He resided in Fair Haven, Connecticut and California prior to relocating to South Carolina. He was a retired mortgage banker at Master Financial Group, Palm Springs, Calif. He was a former member of the Lions Club, and volunteer fireman when he resided in Connecticut. He enjoyed golf. He was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Jack Egan. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jan Egan of Long Branch; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kelly Ann and Raymond Kelly of the River Plaza section of Middletown, and Erin Egan of Red Bank; a brother, Richard Egan of Dover; a sister, Lynn Truex of Neptune; and five grandchildren. Garvin Taylor Craw
Mr. Craw of Little Silver died July 27, 2007, at St. Barnabas Hospice Unit at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He was born in Montclair. He was a founding partner of the government securities dealer G.X. Clark & Company. Prior to that, he played professional football for the Boston Patriots. He was named the 1969 New Jersey Collegiate Athlete of the Year, and played in the Rose Bowl Game in 1970 with the University of Michigan. He was an avid skier and golfer. He is survived by his wife, Susan Elizabeth; a daughter, Stacey Craw Papera; two sons, Richard Corey and Matthew Bannon Craw; his parents, Nancy and Richard Craw; a brother, Richard Taylor; and two grandchildren.
