Alice Mary Tamburello
Mrs. Tamburello, 74, of Manalapan died Sept. 19 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Manalapan the past 42 years. She was a practicing registered nurse and director of nurses at Pine Brook Nursing Home, Manalapan, retiring in 1981. She was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Joseph Tamburello in 2001; two brothers, John Barry and Henry Barry; and a sister, Madeline Barry. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Debbie Tamburello of Englishtown, and Joseph and Patricia Tamburello Jr. of Matawan; three sisters, Chris Leventhal, Mazie McMullan and Mary Ficik; her brother, Cornelius Barry; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. Interment
was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank 07701-9978. Arrangements were by Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.
Salvatore A. Mazzucco
Mr. Mazzucco, 77, of Hazlet died Sept. 19 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., he resided there until relocating to Hazlet 45 years ago. Mr. Mazzucco was the owner and operator of Fair Haven Corner Café, Fair Haven, from 1981-86. Prior to that, he owned and operated the Ice Cream Palace, Aberdeen, and was a retail manager for New Jersey district sales for Gulf Oil Corp. for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. His memberships included the Hazlet Township Recreation Committee, for which he served as treasurer; Hazlet Youth Athletic League; and the Brush and Palette Art Guild. He was also a patient advocate at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. Mr. Mazzucco was predeceased by his brother, John Mazzucco. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Phoebe Isaacson Mazzucco; four sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Jacqueline Mazzucco of Colts Neck, Steven and Joyceann Mazzucco of Pitman, David and Karen Mazzucco of Westfield, and Richard and Denise Mazzucco of Jupiter, Fla.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Rod Harris of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Christine Mazzucco of Hamden, Conn.; a sister, Marion Mertz of Copake, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 25 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Sept. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church. David John McKennan
Mr. McKennan, 46, of New York City and formerly of Aberdeen, died Sept. 5 in Ellsworth, Maine. He was a principal at Blue Hill Design Inc. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Adams of New York City; his parents, Doris and Bob McKennan of Aberdeen; his sister, Debbie McKennan of Aberdeen; and his brother and sister-in-law, Don McKennan and Jane Rottenbach, of New York City; his mother- and father-in-law, Margot and Mason Adams, of New York City; and his brother-in-law and his wife, Bill Adams and Alix Pearlstein, of New York City. A memorial service will be held Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at Matawan United Methodist Church, Aberdeen; and Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. at City Center, W. 55th St., New York City. Elizabeth "Betty" L. Powers Murphy
Mrs. Murphy, 88, of Keyport died Sept. 22 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She resided in Staten Island, N.Y., and Bordentown before moving to Keyport 13 years ago. She was a retired administrative assistant at Seaview Hospital and Nursing Home, Staten Island. She was a life member of the Keyport Republican Club, a member of the Keyport Senior Center advisory committee, and a member of St. Vincent’s Hospital Auxiliary, Staten Island. Mrs. Murphy was predeceased by her husband, Roswell Murphy, in 1979. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and John Loblein of Bayville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Carol A. Murphy of Manchester, and Robert and Linda Murphy of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 24 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Bedle Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Sept. 25 at 9 a.m. at Jesus the Lord Roman Catholic Church, Keyport.
Teresa Ann Drozdowski
Mrs. Drozdowski, 66, of Matawan died Aug. 31 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., she resided in Colts Neck for several years prior to moving to Matawan. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Drozdowski in 1977. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, John and Karen Swarner of Jackson, Robert and Natalie Swarner of Toms River, and Albert Drozdowski of Binghampton, N.Y.; her daughter, Frances Kirch of Lakewood; her brother, Eugene Vinal of Tennessee; her sister, Fay of Belmar; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Interment
was at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Arrangements were by Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold.
Richard L. Lewicki
Richard L. Lewicki, 63, of Aberdeen died Sept. 8 at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of the Matawan and Aberdeen area. He was a fleet manager at Island Transportation, Port Reading, the past year. Prior to that, he worked at Amoco Oil Co., Inwood Terminal, N.Y. He served with the U.S. Army during peacetime. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Keyport. He was a fireman at Matawan Township Hose and Chemical. He was president of Petroleum Trades Employee Union for 20 years. He was predeceased by his father, Francis Lewicki. He is survived by his wife, Judy Turner Lewicki of Aberdeen; his mother, Nancy Nigro Lewicki of California; his daughter, Sheri Ahearn of Eatontown; his brother, Robert Lewicki of Old Bridge; and one granddaughter.
Anthony Grigelwich
Anthony Grigelwich, 88, of Hazlet died Sept. 12 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Union Beach prior to moving to Hazlet 14 years ago. He was a machinist at M&T Chemical Co., Matawan, for 40 years, retiring in 1973. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. He was a member of the Lions Club, Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Higgins Grigelwich, in 1992; and a brother, Michael Grigelwich. He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Rose of Holmdel, Kathleen Day of Matawan and Sandra O’Brien of Marlboro; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Sept. 17 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Interment
will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements are by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Theresa P. Nicosia
Theresa P. Penza Nicosia, 92, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died Sept. 14 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Atlantic Highlands prior to moving to Leonardo 12 years ago. She was the owner-operator of Hairstyling by Stevens, Long Island, N.Y., for 20 years, retiring in 1977. Prior to that, she was vice president at Dornell Co., Brooklyn, for 15 years. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Middletown Senior Center. She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore Nicosia in 1979. She is survived by her daughter, Madeline Little of Leonardo; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sept. 17 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will be Sept. 18 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Atlantic Highlands. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
Marian A. Dey Costa
Marian A. Dey Costa, 79, of Keansburg died Sept. 11 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Harrison, she resided in Hazlet prior to moving to Keansburg 38 years ago. She was employed at Charles of the Ritz, Holmdel, for 15 years, retiring in 1986. She served as a U.S. Navy Wave during World War II. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Costa in 1994. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Donna Costs of Manalapan; her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Anthony Martino of Keansburg; her sister, Anita Ianneillo of Toms River; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
