Doris Oakley Perkins, 85, of Independence, Mo., and formerly of Matawan, died Aug. 22 at Barnes Jewish/St. Peter’s Hospital, St. Peter’s, Mo. Born in Mineola, N.Y., she resided in Montclair, Essex County, and later in Middletown and Matawan before moving to Independence earlier this year. Mrs. Perkins taught languages at Matawan Regional High School for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Prior to that, she taught in Middletown for two years. She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II at the Navy Department Bureau of Ships, Washington, D.C. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Matawan, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), where she was a former member of the vestry and a former senior warden. She was also named a "Women of Honor" by the ECW of the Diocese of New Jersey in 2002. Her memberships included the Jersey Shore WAVES, American Legion, Raritan Post No. 23, Keyport; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6761, Cheesequake Village; the League of Women Voters; the National Education Association; and the New Jersey Education Association. She was a volunteer at the Matawan Historical Society, as well as a literacy volunteer with the Monmouth County Board of Social Services. She enjoyed classical music, bridge and time with friends. Mrs. Perkins was predeceased by her husband, George Richard Perkins, in 1975. She is survived by two daughters, Susan J. Perkins of Eatontown, and Virginia Oakley Hudson of Independence, Mo.; a sister, Virginia Garner of Conway, S.C.; and three grandsons. A memorial service will be held Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Matawan. Interment

Mark A. Bruther
Mark A. Bruther, 54, of Rougemont, N.C., and formerly of Hazlet, died Sept. 11 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Trenton, he resided in Hazlet before moving to Rougemont four years ago. Mr. Bruther was an accident reconstruction policeman for the Hazlet Township Police Department for 25 years, retiring in 1999. He was a state delegate for two terms for Policemen’s Benevolent Association No. 189, and served as vice president of MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving). He was predeceased by his brothers, John F. Bruther Jr. and Dennis M. Bruther; and his parents, Ann and John F. Bruther Sr. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bernadette A. DeCraene Bruther; a son, Shaun Casey Bruther of Baltimore; two daughters, Kelly Devlin Bruther of North Carolina and Kimberly Ann Bruther of Hazlet; three sisters, Mary Towers of Livingston, Carol Brothers of Florida, and Judy Ros of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements. Vincent J. Mallen, 80, of Eatontown died Sept. 10 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Elmhurst, N.Y., he resided in Matawan and Queens, N.Y., prior to moving to Eatontown one year ago. He was the owner-operator of a 7-Eleven, Cliffwood section of Aberdeen, for 27 years, retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he worked at Burlington Industries, New York City. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Keyport, as well as president of the Franchise Owners Association for 7-Elevens. He enjoyed baseball and football and was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics and Pittsburgh Steelers. He was predeceased by two brothers, John Mallen and Robert Mallen; and his wife, Phyllis Mallen in 1990. He is survived by his son, Peter Mallen of Matawan; his daughter, Judith Ann Bryan of the Elberon section of Long Branch; and one grandson. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Joan Wilson
Joan Wilson, 79, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died Sept. 1 at home. Born in London, she resided in Leonardo several years. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Sydney Wilson, in 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Sacher of Leonardo. Frank Anthony Bianco
Frank Anthony Bianco, 60, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died Sept. 12 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Middletown before moving to Port Monmouth six years ago. Mr. Bianco was a security officer at Wackenhut Corp., Union, for seven years. Prior to that, he worked at Marion Security, Red Bank. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Haberkoin Bianco; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Bermingham of Middletown, John Bermingham and William and Jennifer Bermingham, all Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Marie Bianco and Rhonda Bianco, both of Port Monmouth, and Jessica Bianco of Springfield Township; and one grandchild. Leon Lindsley
Leon Lindsley, 78, of the Cliffwood Beach section of Aberdeen, died Sept. 13 at home. Born in Philadelphia, he resided in Newark prior to moving to Cliffwood Beach several years ago. Mr. Lindsley was a retired security guard at Celotex, Perth Amboy, for 15 years. Prior to that, he was a laborer at Wiss & Son, Newark, for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He played professional baseball for the Phillies and Cardinals from 1947-49. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Chadwick Lindsley; two sons, Keith Lindsley of New Jersey and Paul Lindsley of Tennessee; two daughters, Lisa Pritchard of Virginia and Anita Lindsley of Georgia; a sister, Lillian Jensen of New Jersey; and three grandchildren. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Angelo M. Valentino
Angelo M. Valentino, 82, of Long Branch died Sept. 8 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, he relocated to Long Branch in 1922. Mr. Valentino co-owned and operated a business with his family, which began in 1910 and operated for almost nine decades. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and received seven decorations and citations as a member of the 89th Infantry Division of the Third Army. He was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and choir. His memberships included the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 742, the Amerigo Vespucci Society, the Italian American Memorial Association, and the American Legion, Long Branch. He was also an officer and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2795, Long Branch, and served as an officer and past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local No. 399, Long Branch. He and his brother founded a band in the 1930s and won a gold medal at the 1939 World’s Fair. He played and enjoyed music with his friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife, Rose Ossino Valentino; and two brothers, Salvatore and Frank Valentino. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph T. and Carole Valentino of Oceanport, and Alfred J. and Anne Valentino of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Marie Ann and Edward J. Johnson of Howell; two brothers, Louis and Charles Valentino, both Long Branch; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Long Branch, followed by interment at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch.
Giovannina "Janis" Bonanno Bianchi
Mrs. Bianchi, 82, of Middletown died Oct. 22 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in New York City, she resided in Newark before moving to Middletown 42 years ago. She was a beautician and cosmetologist at Harbour Island Spa, Long Branch, for 20 years, retiring in 1989. She also worked at several beauty salons in the area. She was a member of the Middletown Senior Club. Mrs. Bianchi was predeceased by two brothers, John and Luke Bonanno. She is survived by her husband, Ugo P. Bianchi of Keansburg; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Leonard Bianchi and Jean Howson of Atlantic Highlands, Howard Bianchi of Oakland, Calif., Hugo and Randi Yaffee-Bianchi of Tinton Falls, Timothy and Mary Cooper-Bianchi of Fair Haven, and Geoffrey and Judy Bianchi of Duluth, Minn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Josiana Bianchi and Peter Blum of Red Bank; two brothers, Anthony Bonanno of Shrewsbury and Humbert Bonanno of Las Vegas; four sisters, Anne Motycka of Sparks, Nev.; Rose Scotti of Little Silver; Mary Moseley of Seattle, Wash.; and Loretta Powell of El Paso, Texas; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Gabrielle Russomano Zigich
Mrs. Zigich, 38, of Neptune died Nov. 4. Born in Long Branch, she was a lifelong resident of the shore area. She was a dental assistant at Monmouth Dental Center, Eatontown, for 10 years. She was a graduate of Long Branch High School and Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas Russomano. She is survived by a son, Drew. at home; a daughter, Gillian, at home; her mother, Marjorie I. Riddell of Neptune; her maternal grandmother, Yolanda Florida of Long Branch; and several aunts and uncles. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
Anna M. Warnock Cokelet
Mrs. Cokelet, 79, of Holmdel died Nov. 21 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Hazlet, she resided there before moving to Holmdel 38 years ago. She was employed in the finance office at Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft section of Middletown, for 25 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of the Central Jersey Chapter of Deborah Heart and Lung Association, National Secretaries Association, and the Holmdel Seniors. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry J. Warnock Jr. Mrs. Cokelet is survived by her husband, Charles S. Cokelet; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles A. and Maureen Cokelet of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Maryann and Keith Cheveralls of Harvard, Mass.; a brother, John Warnock of Hazlet; and four grandchildren.
