Dianna Marie Aszman
Ms. Aszman, 45, of Asbury Park, formerly of Spotswood, died Dec. 5 at home. Surviving are her parents, Harry and Deanna DuCharme Aszman; two brothers, Harry of Millstone and Gary of the Somerset section of Franklin; and four nieces and nephews. A Mass is planned for 9 a.m. on Dec. 11 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Old Bridge. Interment

Dale C. Alexander
Dale Alexander, 15, of Yardville died Nov. 24 at home. Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong Yardville resident. Dale was a sophomore at Hamilton High School East. He was active in Narcotics Anonymous in both Hamilton and Princeton. He enjoyed fishing, boating, football, ping pong, horseback riding, and writing poetry. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Joan M. Patterson, and his paternal grandparents, Peggy and Michael Alexander. Dale is survived by his parents, Linda M. Patterson Kupersmit of Yardville, and John K. and Barbara Alexander of Maysville, S.C.; his maternal grandfather, William H. Patterson Jr. of Allentown; a brother, Keith W. Alexander of Yardville; a stepsister, Chelsea Kupersmit of Hamilton; a stepbrother and his wife, Kirk and Cindy Partyka of Trenton; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held at the Saul Colonial Home, Hamilton Square, followed by interment at Crosswicks Cemetery, Crosswicks section of Upper Freehold. Vernon F. McCue
Mr. McCue, 88, died Nov. 23 at Buttonwood Hospital in Pemberton Township. Born in Upper Freehold, he was a lifetime area resident who enjoyed running and taking long walks. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Shay McCue. Surviving are a stepson, Ward Bennett Jr. of Cream Ridge; and three stepdaughters, Patricia Patincki of Freehold, Doris Pullen of Westampton and Barbara Arnold of Bristol, Tenn. Cremation was private under the direction of Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown.
Louis J. Toto Sr.
Mr. Toto, 73, of the Columbus section of Mansfield, formerly of East Brunswick, died Nov. 27 in St. Agnes Medical Center, Philadelphia. He was one of the founding members of Toto Brothers Inc., East Brunswick. A son, Christopher, died in 1991. Surviving are his wife, J. Bernadette Marsicano Toto; two sons, Louis J. Toto Jr. of Millstone and James Toto of the New Egypt section of Plumsted; a daughter, Loretta VanMiddlesworth of Lake Worth, Fla.; a brother, Antonio Toto of East Brunswick; a sister, Mafalda Nervegna of Astoria, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. A Mass was offered at Our Lady of Peace Church, North Brunswick. Entombment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick. Bessie Cutter Perlman
Mrs. Perlman, 98, of Imlaystown and Vero Beach, Fla., died Nov. 19 in Ocean City, Md., at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. Born in New York City, she was raised in Trenton and for more than 65 years resided with her husband at Perl Acres in Imlaystown. A graduate of the New Jersey Normal School (now The College of New Jersey), early in her career she was a kindergarten teacher at the New Jersey School for the Deaf while also assisting her husband in their farming operations. During World War II, she worked as the local president and national officer for the American Woman’s Voluntary Service and the United Volunteer Services, providing assistance to the armed forces. She was also responsible for recruiting volunteers at the Trenton Filter Center for "Operation Lookout." After years of volunteering in educational, service and social organizations, she became the first coordinator of volunteer services at the Edward R. Johnstone Training and Research Center, Bordentown, for the developmentally challenged. In addition, she was instrumental in organizing both "Operation Golf Swing" in veterans hospitals and a "touching" garden for the blind at Johnstone. She devoted 30 years to establishing and operating Special Olympics programs and received the first Special Olympics New Jersey Lifetime Achievement award, as well as the Hall of Fame and Chairman’s awards. An annual golf tournament known as the Perlman Cup was named after her and is held each fall to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey. She was the first woman to be elected to the College of New Jersey’s Athletic Hall of Fame, and she received her alma mater’s 2000 Alumni Citation award. She was predeceased by her husband, Isidore. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, David and Sheila Perlman of Allentown; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Roy Hansen of Ocean City, Md.; a sister, Geraldine Levy of Ewing; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at the Special Olympics New Jersey Sports Complex, Lawrenceville, followed by a private interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton Township. Bertha Anna Christie
Mrs. Christie, 69, of the Clarksburg section of Millstone, died Nov. 15 at Capital Health System in Trenton. Born in Philadelphia, she was raised in Lindenwold and was a graduate of Philadelphia’s Hahnemann University Hospital School of Nursing. Before raising children, she spent the early part of her life working as a registered nurse. She later became a bookkeeper for Chris Industries, a family business located in Howell. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Laurel Springs Chapter No. 227. Surviving are her husband, David A. Christie; two sons, David A. Christie Jr. of Howell and Mark Christie of Eatontown; a daughter, Susan Christie of Howell; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent section of Manalapan, with the Rev. Dr. Hugh A. MacKenzie officiating. Interment

Frank J. "Bill" Yawger
Mr. Yawger, 83, of Hazlet died Nov. 17 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Erie, Pa., he resided in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet and Union Beach prior to moving to Hazlet five years ago. He was a retired handyman for 30 years. Prior to that, he operated a vending service at Fort Monmouth for 30 years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. While serving in England, he met his wife-to-be in the English army; she was the first war bride in Monmouth County. He was a member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary French Yawger in 1980. He is survived by three daughters, Irene DeMetro of Hazlet, Sheridan Novitch of Toms River, and Wendy Windsor of Georgia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Interment
was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Joseph A. Occhiuzzo Sr.
Mr. Occhiuzzo, 61, of Cream Ridge, died Nov. 21 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Staten Island, N.Y., Allentown and Whiting before moving to Cream Ridge two years ago. He was a self-employed importer and exporter. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Brooklyn. Mr. Occhiuzzo is survived by his wife, Theresa Viscuso Occhiuzzo; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph R. and Laura Occhiuzzo of Cream Ridge; a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Anthony Panzica of Belford; and one granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, Allentown, followed by interment at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Concetta Valentino Benante
Mrs. Benante, 84, of Monmouth Beach died Nov. 9 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in New York City and Oceanport for 40 years before moving to Monmouth Beach in 2002. She taught home economics at Henry Hudson Regional High School, Atlantic Highlands. Prior to that, she was a dietitian and the director of food services at the East Brunswick Board of Education. She enjoyed time with her family, knitting, sewing and cooking. She was predeceased by her husband, Carmine Benante, Oct. 29. She is survived by a son, Carl Benante of Monmouth Beach, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at The Church of Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. The Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch, was in charge of arrangements.
