Paul J. Acerra
Mr. Acerra, 87, of Long Branch died Nov. 20 at home. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service, Long Branch, for 37 years before his retirement. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. He was a member of the Acerra Brothers baseball team, which was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, N.Y. He was a member of the Long Branch Old Guard and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Theresa "Tess" D’Amico Acerra; two sons, Paul Acerra and Michael Acerra, both of New Mexico; five brothers, Alfred, William, Edward, and Fred, all of Long Branch, and Richard of Lakewood; a sister, Frances Christopher of West Long Branch; and one granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Interment
was at Mount Carmel Cemetery, West Long Branch. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
Earl Watkin Korf
Mr. Korf, 99, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died Nov. 23 at home. Born in Oklahoma, he resided in California and in Long Branch for two years before moving to Lincroft in 1961. He was a supervisor of navigators at Trans World Airlines, where he was employed for 40 years before his retirement. Prior to that, he was a telegrapher at Western Union in California, and sailed the Pacific Ocean as a wireless operator. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, flying transport planes over the Atlantic Ocean. His passengers included President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Madame Chiang Kai-shek. Mr. Korf was a member and former deacon at the Lincroft Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, and was an avid ham radio operator with memberships in several local and national ham radio associations. He was also a former Boy Scout assistant Scout Master and troop representative, and Little League coach and manager in Lincroft. He was predeceased by a brother, Roy William Korf, and a sister, Nellie Mae Korf. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Suzanne Michel Nacouz Korf; two sons, Gregory D. Korf of Lincroft and Richard E. Korf of Los Angeles; a sister, Mildred Steele of Fair Oaks, Calif.; one step-grandson; and one nephew. A memorial service was held at Lincroft Presbyterian Church. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.
Theodore A. Wathington
Mr. Wathington, 62, of Aberdeen died Nov. 5 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident of Aberdeen. He was a shift superintendent at Bayway Oil Refinery, Linden, retiring in 1968. Mr. Wathington served with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Mark’s AME Zion Church, Cliffwood section of Aberdeen. He was a member of the Mason Butler Lodge, Cliffwood. He enjoyed playing golf. He was predeceased by his father, Otis Wathington Sr.; and a brother, Alonzo Wathington. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Annie Evelyn Wathington; four sons, Kevin Parrish, Edward Parrish, Philip Wathington and Alfonzo Jason Moore; three daughters, Yvonne Parrish, Sonia Cross, Almeta Wathington and Melissa Wathington; his mother, Melissa Russell Wathington; four brothers, Otis Wathington Jr., Charles Wathington, William Wathington and Alphonso Wathington; four sisters, Lillian Parrish, Beverly Jackson, Mary Jane Johnson and Patricia McGowan; and eight grandchildren. A funeral service was held at St. Mark’s AME Zion Church, Cliffwood. Interment
was at Holmdel Cemetery
Mausoleum. Arrangements were by Bedle Funeral Home, Matawan.
Joseph D. Jennings
Mr. Jennings, 80, of Long Branch died Sept. 20 at his daughter’s home in Pennsylvania. Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong resident of Long Branch. Mr. Jennings was a meat manager at A&P, Little Silver, for 46 years, retiring in 1989. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Long Branch. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith B. Jennings, in 1976; and a sister, Anna Gallaniri. He is survived by a son, J. David Jennings of West Chester, Pa.; a daughter, Wendy Ann Lessig of Huntingdon, Pa.; a brother and sister, James Jennings and Marion Hampton, both of Long Branch; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be held Sept. 26 at 9:30 a.m. at Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Daniel J. McGeehan
Mr. McGeehan, 40, of Keyport died Sept. 20 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, he resided in Middletown before moving to Keyport two years ago. Mr. McGeehan was a stationary engineer at Rouse Co., Staten Island, N.Y., where he was employed the past five years. He is survived by a son, Michael G. McGeehan of Long Branch; his parents, Dolores and George McGeehan of the New Monmouth section of Middletown; a sister, Sharon Thorp of the Navesink section of Middletown; one niece and one nephew. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, New Monmouth, followed by burial at Bay View Cemetery, Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Joseph H. Mangiamele
Mr. Mangiamele, 83, of Manchester died Sept. 18 at home. Born in Hackensack, he resided in Long Branch and Spring Lake prior to moving to Manchester. He was a general foreman at J.F. Kiely Construction Co., Long Branch, for 40 years, retiring in 1992. He served with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rosemarie Berger Mangiamele; two sons, Paul M. Mangiamele of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Joseph P. Mangiamele of Centerville, Ohio; three daughters, Rosemarie Goodpaster of Fairhope, Ala.; Joi Machmer of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Joanne Mangiamele of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Alfred Caruso of Long Branch, and Paul Caruso of Queens, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch. Marie Quarto Rispoli
Mrs. Rispoli, 71, of Highlands died Sept. 18 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown prior to moving to Highlands five years ago. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, whom she married in 1951, Joseph Rispoli of Highlands; four sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Jennie Rispoli of Brooklyn, N.Y.; James and Betty Rispoli of Cordova, S.C.; Steven and Debbie Rispoli of Long Branch; and Daniel and Linda Rispoli of Middletown; six daughters and five sons-in-law, Mariann Mezzina, Diane and Anthony Settembre, and Debra and Mark Shopp, all of Port Monmouth; Nancy and Robert Robinson, and Laura and David Betts, all of Cordova, S.C.; and Camille and Dennis Tenny of Middletown; her sister-in-law, Nancy Croce of Staten Island, N.Y.; 25 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was offered at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
Emil A. Catenaro
Mr. Catenaro, 91, of Eatontown died Oct. 3 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Windber, Pa., he resided in Italy for several years and returned to the United States in 1924 to Brooklyn, N.Y., moving to Eatontown in 1962. He was retired from Fort Monmouth. Prior to that, he was employed at Griffith Air Base in Rome, N.Y. He was a former member of the Board of Education at Monmouth Regional High School, Tinton Falls. Mr. Catenaro was predeceased by his first wife, Marie Lauri Catenaro; two sisters, Aurora and Mary Catenaro; and a brother, Armand Catenaro. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Pierce Catenaro; a brother, Robert Catenaro of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Florence Laitman of Columbus, Ohio; and several stepchildren and step-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church, Tinton Falls. Arrangements are under the direction of Braun Funeral Home, Eatontown.
