Anthony Furiato
Mr. Furiato, 83, of Middletown died Oct. 13 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Middletown, he was a lifelong Middletown resident. Mr. Furiato was a crossing guard in Middletown for the past 10 years. Prior to that, he was a shipping foreman at Bendix Corp., Eatontown, for 35 years, retiring in 1985, and a landscaper and gardener until the 1950s. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Italian American Club, Middletown, and the Bendix Retirement Club. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Sacco Furiato; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Lynn Furiato of Shrewsbury, and Ronald and Katherine Furiato of Middletown; a daughter, Patricia Marcelli of Middletown; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Visitation will be Oct. 17 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral gathering will take place Oct. 18 at 6:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 8 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Red Bank. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
Sgt. Warren G. "Bud" Cornell
Mr. Cornell, 82, of Eatontown died Oct. 22 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Queens, N.Y., he had resided in Eatontown for the past 46 years. Mr. Cornell was an employee of the Department of Defense Police, Fort Hancock, before his retirement. Prior to that, he was with the U.S. Army, serving during the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War, retiring with the rank of sergeant first class. He was a member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, Eatontown. He was a 48-year member of the Masonic Lodge; a member and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 244 for 37 years; the Scottish Rite-Valley of Central Jersey; the Shriners of Trenton; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10129, Oceanport. He was an avid Yankees fan. He was predeceased a brother, John E. Cornell; and a sister, Marion Jaegar. Mr. Cornell is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marjorie M. Reiss Cornell; a son, William R. Cornell of Eatontown; a daughter, Marcia Cornell Anderson of Scotch Plains; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, Eatontown. Interment

Florence Marie Faustmann
Mrs. Faustmann, 87, of Howell died Oct. 25 at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Colts Neck for 40 years before moving to Howell in 1998. Before her retirement, Mrs. Faustmann was a clerk at Prudential Insurance, Newark, and a sales associate at various retail stores for several years. She attended Colts Neck Reformed Church, where she also taught Sunday school. She was predeceased by her husband, August George Faustmann, in 2000. She is survived by two sons, Robert A. Faustmann Sr. of Penns Park, Pa., and Christopher L. Faustmann of the Wanamassa section of Ocean Township; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Interment
was at Shoreland Memorial Park, Hazlet. Arrangements were by C.H.T. Clayton & Son Funeral Home, Adelphia.
Anthony Arnold Hawley
Mr. Hawley, 53, of Long Branch died Oct. 26 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Brazil, he resided in Highlands, Middletown and Long Branch most of his life. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, Long Branch. Prior to that, he worked at Bendix Aviation, Eatontown, for several years. He was predeceased by his mother, Airtes D. Hawley; and a sister, Suzette M. Hawley. He is survived by his father, Dudley Hawley of Middletown; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia L. and Christopher L. Davis of Middletown; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews in Brazil. A funeral service was held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Red Bank. Interment

Alfred F. Guzzi Sr.
Alfred F. "Fritz" Guzzi Sr., 83, Long Branch died Sept. 4 at Beth Israel Hospital, Passaic. Born in Long Branch, he was a lifelong resident. Mr. Guzzi was the owner and operator of Colonial Fuel Service, Long Branch, retiring in 1984. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He was a parishioner at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. Mr. Guzzi was an exempt fireman, past captain and past president of the Atlantic Engine and Truck Company of the Long Branch Fire Department; a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus No. 335, Long Branch; and a member of the Long Branch Old Guard. He was also a member of the Allied Building Trades Local 694, Neptune. Mr. Guzzi is survived by his wife, Rose Kurpell Guzzi; a son, Alfred Guzzi Jr. of Long Branch; two daughters, Nancy Montgomery of West Long Branch and Maryanne Squillari of Monmouth Beach; two sisters, Emma Galluccio and Edith Bratton, both Long Branch; and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Entombment was at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport.
Doris Oakley Perkins
Doris Oakley Perkins, 85, of Independence, Mo., and formerly of Matawan, died Aug. 22 at Barnes Jewish/St. Peter’s Hospital, St. Peter’s, Mo. Born in Mineola, N.Y., she resided in Montclair, Essex County, and later in Middletown and Matawan before moving to Independence earlier this year. Mrs. Perkins taught languages at Matawan Regional High School for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Prior to that, she taught in Middletown for two years. She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II at the Navy Department Bureau of Ships, Washington, D.C. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Matawan, where she served on the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), where she was a former member of the vestry and a former senior warden. She was also named a "Women of Honor" by the ECW of the Diocese of New Jersey in 2002. Her memberships included the Jersey Shore WAVES, American Legion, Raritan Post No. 23, Keyport; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6761, Cheesequake Village; the League of Women Voters; the National Education Association; and the New Jersey Education Association. She was a volunteer at the Matawan Historical Society, as well as a literacy volunteer with the Monmouth County Board of Social Services. She enjoyed classical music, bridge and time with friends. Mrs. Perkins was predeceased by her husband, George Richard Perkins, in 1975. She is survived by two daughters, Susan J. Perkins of Eatontown, and Virginia Oakley Hudson of Independence, Mo.; a sister, Virginia Garner of Conway, S.C.; and three grandsons. A memorial service will be held Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Matawan. Interment

Nazariah Bland Bowles
Nazariah Bland Bowles, infant daughter of Sherry Bland and William Bowles of Long Branch, died Sept. 11 at Beth Israel Hospital, Newark. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Sherry Bland and Robert Baldwin; her paternal grandparents, Karen and William Bowles; her great-grandmother, Margie Pack; her great-great-grandmothers, Gladys Anderson and Julia Wheeler, all of Long Branch; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service was held at the Second Baptist Church, Long Branch. Interment
was at Monmouth Memorial Park Cemetery, Tinton Falls. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
Barbara A. Schmiedeberg
Barbara A. Schmiedeberg, 53, of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township, died Sept. 9 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Jersey City, she resided in South Toms River before moving to Oakhurst 10 years ago. She was an office manager at Capitol Lighting, Eatontown, for 15 years. She is survived by four sons, Jim Schmiedeberg of Florida, Jeff Schmiedeberg and Russ Schmiedeberg, both of Forked River, and Jonathan Schmiedeberg of Oakhurst; her mother, Grace Blum of Brick; her father, Theodore Blum of Pinellas Park, Fla.; and one grandson. A memorial service was held at The Bradley Beach Gazebo. Arrangements were by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.
Linda Booker
Linda Booker, 48, of Long Branch died Sept. 5, at St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Ms. Booker was a bus operator at NJ Transit, where she was employed 12 years. She was predeceased by her father, James DaCruz. She is survived by her children, Lewis and Tanya, and her daughter-in-law, Kutisa; her mother, Virginia DaCruz; two sisters; seven brothers; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Eileen D. Carmody
Eileen D. Carmody, 53, of Monmouth Beach died Sept. 5 at Mount Carmel West Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was born in Hoboken. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel F. and Theresa Barteletta Carmody. She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Maureen D. and Edward T. Ryan of Monmouth Beach; an aunt, Catherine Dougherty of the Oakhurst section of Ocean Township; and several nieces and nephews.
