Mass for Gerard J. Smith, 51, a native of Jersey City, will be at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Lawrence Church, Weehawken. He died Oct. 30 at Syracuse (N.Y.) Veterans Hospital.
Smith was born in Jersey City and lived in Hoboken before moving to Orwell, N.Y. He was a truck driver for Holmes Trucking Co., Carlstadt, for many years.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two sons, Rod and Jarad; a sister, Regina Vangelakos; and three grandchildren.

Gerald Callahan Jr.

Mass for Gerald F. Callahan Jr., 51, a longtime resident of Bayonne, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Bayonne. He died yesterday at Bayonne Hospital.
Callahan was born in Jersey City and moved to Bayonne in 1972. He was director of external affairs at Verizon Communications, Newark, for over 30 years.
He was a member of the boards of DARE New Jersey and the Hudson County Economic Development Corp., chairman of the Area Development Council of the Hudson County Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the Hudson County Workforce Investment Board.
He served on the Board of Regents at St. Peter's College and the board of the New Jersey Institute of Technology athletic department. He was president of the 200 Club of Essex County.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Marie; and a son, Brian F.

Gertrude I. Baker

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. -- Gertrude I. Baker, 80, died Oct. 30 at home.
Born in Trenton, she lived here more than 55 years before moving to Winston Salem 26 years ago.
She retired from Wenczel Tile Co. and Circle F Industries.
She attended Trenton schools.
Sister of the late Mary V. Brown, she is survived by a son, Phillip E. Baker of Trenton; a daughter, Barbara R. Shaw of Winston Salem; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Winifred E. and Marion Mingo of Trenton and Ruth and Russell Davis of Roosevelt, N.Y.; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Zion AME Church, 133 Perry St., Trenton, with the Rev. J. Stanley Justice, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Ewing (N.J.) Cemetery.
Calling hour will be 10 a.m. until service at the church.
Arrangements are by Hughes Funeral Home, Trenton.
Joseph A. Loffredo Sr., retired from General Motors Corp.

TRENTON -- Joseph A. "Nigee" Loffredo Sr., 69, died Monday at St. Francis Medical Center.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
He retired after 30 years with General Motors Corp., Ewing.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Loffredo was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, United Auto Workers and New Jersey Policemen's Benevolent Association.
Son of the late Ernesto and Jennie Conti Loffredo and brother of the late Virginia Di Lisa and Silvia Burroughs, he is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy M. Demeter Loffredo; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. Jr. and Karen A. Loffredo of Mercerville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly A. Loffredo, with whom he lived, and Cynthia L. and Jeffrey T. Walsh, all of Trenton; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Michael and Gerald of Trenton and Ernest and Carol Loffredo of Hamilton; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Carmella and Steve Kovacs, Julia Guagliardo, Jean Vitella and Mary and Bill King, all of Hamilton; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Gerry Caruso and Kathleen and Noel Du Blois; a grandson, Nicholas J. Loffredo; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday from Chiacchio Southview Funeral Home, 990 S. Broad St.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10 a.m. at Church of the Holy Cross with Monsignor Edward J. Arnister, pastor, officiating.
Entombment will be in Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, Hamilton.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Anna May Cox

TRENTON -- Anna May Cox, 95, died Oct. 31 at St. Francis Medical Center.
Born in Thomasville, Ga., and a graduate of Hostess College in Cordele, Ga., she lived in Trenton more than 70 years.
She retired from the Trenton Board of Education, having worked at Grant Elementary School.
She was a member of East Trenton Council and Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Daughter of the late Singleton and Mary Lou Evans, she is survived by a cousin, Alma Livingston of Trenton; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Hughes Funeral Home, 324 Bellevue Ave.
Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until service at the funeral home.
