Pauline Mosley Durham Mercedo

Sunrise May 7, 1912
Sunset July 28, 2001
Pauline Mosley Durham Mercado, departed this life Saturday morning at the age of 89, after an extended illness, in Woodside, N.Y.
Born in Dover, Delaware, the first daughter of Levi Burton Mosley and Mary Jane Carter, she came to New Jersey at the age of 3 years after the early death of her father, to live with her grandparents David and Lucinda Mosley.
After her second marriage to Efrain Mercado in 1969 she moved to New York where she worked as head machinist engineer in a large quilting factory until her retirement.
She had battled cancer for about five years and with her usual strong Carter-Mosley spirit she really fought a great battle, most of the time on the winning side.
She was an avid fan of the New York Mets from the time she moved to N.Y. And was President of the ''Lady Met'' club for several years before giving it up because of her health. At that time the Met Association disbanded the club because the members did not feel anyone else there could fill her shoes. She was really proud of the fact that one season she was asked and did throw out the first ball of the season. She was also honored several times by the Met Association, when they put her name up on the lighted scoreboard for her 80th Birthday etc. She was a real Met fan during good times and bad and always had season tickets. She also enjoyed the games played here in Bridgeton, attending the ''Bridgeton Invitational Games''.
Her husband Efrain has been by her side all through the years at the games and through her illness.
Though she found a whole new family in New York she never forgot and visited often with her South Jersey family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Levi Burton Mosley and Mary Jane Muntz; a brother, Burton Mosley; a sister, Ivanette Cuff; and niece Arlene Cuff Clark; and her first husband Perry Durham.
Those remembering her in South Jersey includes two cousins Natalie Mosley Ridgway and Melvin (Toby) Durham; godchild Beth Durham Osborne; a namesake Paula Durham Dreyer; two special longtime friends Jazzy & Franny Durham; two nephews Perry and Wayne Durham; two nieces Sarah Mosley and Elsie Pritchett; sister-in-law Sarah Durham; and several other cousins, family, and friends.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 12 noon, July 31 at the family plot in Fernwood Cemetery, Bridgeton, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pauline's name to the cancer society or charity of choice.
Condolences may be made to her husband, Efrain Mercado, 3237 54th St. Apt. #1, Woodside, NY 11377.
Funeral arrangements under the directions of Thomas Quinn & Sons Funeral Home, Long Island, NY.
