RUTH DOBY SICKLES, 77, of BEACHWOOD, died yesterday at her daughter's home in Beachwood after a long fight with brain cancer. She retired after many years of service from the Trenton Post Office. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Lakehurst, the American Legion Eagles Women's Organization of New Jersey, and Forgotten Pets Inc. Born in Salisbury, N.C., she lived in the Trenton area most of her life before moving to Beachwood four years ago.
Her husband, Sgt. Edward James Sickles, died during World War II while serving with the 82nd Airborne; and she was predeceased by her parents, Isaac Filmore and Lula Mae Miller Doby. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth M. and Richard E. Marcine Jr. of Beachwood; a sister and brother-in-law, Ollie and Joseph Esposito; a grandson and his wife, Richard E. III and Afie Marcine of Branchville; a granddaughter, Debra Ruth Marcine of Parsippany-TroyHills; three great-grandchildren, Danny, Lissy and Taylor Marcine; and two nephews, James and Joseph Esposito.

Elizabeth McSweeney Brackman, 38, of Lavallette died on Saturday, September 29, 2001, at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune from injuries she sustained in a September 12 automobile accident. Born and raised in Westfield, she lived in Lavallette for the past 20 years. Ms. Brackman was employed as an insurance representative with RMH Teleservices of Long Branch. She graduated from Westfield High School and Ocean County College. She was predeceased by her father, William P. McSweeney, and a brother, Robert McSweeney. Surviving are a daughter, Megan Brackman of Lavallette; a son, Timothy Brackman, also of Lavallette; her mother, Marguerite Mulshine McSweeney of Spring Lake Heights; four sisters, Kathleen Cotter of Alexandria Township, Margaret Ann Ayers of Biddeford Pool, Me., Maureen Luke of Rocklin, Calif., and Susan Ulmes of Holland Township, and two brothers, William McSweeney of Clinton Township and Brian McSweeney of Windsor, Calif. A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, October 3, at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment

Minnie M. Gordon, 84, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at her granddaughter's home in Plainfield. Born in King and Queen County, Va., she had lived in Westfield before moving to Plainfield 63 years ago. Mrs. Gordon was a member of the Mount Olive Church in Plainfield. Surviving are three sons, Bruce H. Gordon, Sr. and Ronald A. Gordon, both of Plainfield, and Alfred M. Gordon of North Plainfield; two daughters, Patricia N. Walls and Barbara Ann Tucker, both of Plainfield; two sisters, Kattie Luck and Elva Heatherine Doyle, both of Plainfield; a brother, Charles R. Thomas of Plainfield; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren. Services were held on Monday, October 1, at the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
Jane Cunningham Bender, 74, of Westfield died on Wednesday, September 26, 2001, at her home. Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Westfield for more than 40 years. Mrs. Bender was active in the Parent-Teacher Association in Westfield and was a volunteer with Overlook Hospital in Summit for many years. She was a member of the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield and a former member of the Junior League of Westfield. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Augustus John Bender, in 2000, and also by a son, Stephen Cunningham Bender. Surviving are a son, James Augustus Bender of Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.; two daughters, Diane Bender and Lisa Bender of New York City, and five grandchildren. A Mass was offered on Saturday, September 29, at St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, following the funeral from the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield. Interment
was at Rosedale Cemetery
in Linden.
Lewis J. Mishkin, 60, of Mountainside died on Tuesday, September 25, 2001, at her home. Born in New York City, he was a resident of Mountainside for 30 years. Mr. Mishkin owned the Lew Mishkin Association, a utility rate consulting company. He also was a motion picture producer and distributor in New York City, operating Mishkin International. He was a member of the Rating Board of the Motion Picture Association of America. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and economics, he also earned a law degree from New York University Law School in 1965. He was admitted to the New York Bar Association that same year. Mr. Mishkin was a member of B'nai B'rith in Westfield and Mountainside and a member of the Men's Club at Temple Emanu-El in Westfield. He also was a member of the Variety Club of America. Surviving are his wife, Lois Wachsberg Mishkin; a son, Jay Mishkin; a daughter, Robin Abrams; a brother, Neil Mishkin, and a grandson. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, September 26, at Temple Emanu-El. Interment
took place at Temple B'nai Abraham Memorial Park in Union. Arrangements were conducted by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union. Memorial contributions may be made to the Brain Tumor Society, the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey or to Temple Emanu-El in Westfield.
