John “Jack” Herity, 75, of Metuchen died yesterday in Cedar Oaks Care Center, South Plainfield.
A Funeral Liturgy will be at 10:15 a.m. Friday in St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral, Metuchen, after the funeral from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave., Metuchen.
Mr. Herity was a crossing guard in Metuchen for five years before retiring in 1999.
Earlier, he worked in the building maintenance department of St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral.
Born in Sligo, Ireland, Mr. Herity lived in Metuchen since 1968.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Bridget Prendergast, and a grandchild.
Genevieve Gurka

Services for Mrs. Genevieve “Jean” Gurka, 93, of Kearny will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Nazare Memorial Home, 403 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst.
Mrs. Gurka, who died Monday in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny, was an office worker with Elizabethtown Gas in Elizabeth for 24 years before retiring in 1974.
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Elizabeth before moving to Kearny.
Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Cathy Meyers and Mrs. Betty Kiefer; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Arthur S. Grogg, company executive, 75

A Mass for Arthur S. Grogg, 75, of Scotch Plains will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, Scotch Plains, after the funeral from the Rossi Funeral Home, 1937 Westfield Ave., Scotch Plains.
Mr. Grogg, who died Sunday at home, was vice president and controller of the Universal Foods Corp. in South Plainfield before retiring in 1988. Before that, he was employed by Albert Verely in Linden and South Plainfield, a subsidiary of Jergens, Cincinnati. After retiring, he worked for H & R Block in Scotch Plains.
Mr. Grogg graduated in 1948 from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in business. He was a life-member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he lived in Scotch Plains for more than 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Anne; a daughter, Mrs. Judy Hvizdak; sons, Mark, Dan and Jerry; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Pifer, and nine grandchildren.
Leo Glazer, executive with family oil business

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Graveside services for Leo Glazer, 79, of Monroe Township, N.J., will be here at 12:45 p.m. today in the Baron Hirsch Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick, N.J.
Mr. Glazer died Monday in JFK Medical Center, Edison.
He was vice president and secretary of the Salmirs Oil Co., a family-owned business in Staten Island, for 29 years. After the sale of the business in 1979, Mr. Glazer stayed on as service manager until retiring in 1987.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Glazer was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Staten Island, the Staten Island Oil Dealers Association and the Clearbrook Post 395 of the Jewish War Veterans in Monroe Township. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 18 of the Jewish Community Center, both in Staten Island. Mr. Glazer was past president of Temple Israel Reform Congregation in Staten Island.
Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Staten Island before moving to Monroe Township in 1978.
Surviving are Jeanette, his wife of 55 years; a son, Stuart A.; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy J. Rock; a brother, Ralph Glasser, and four grandchildren.
Joseph W. Gavigan

A memorial Mass for Joseph W. Gavigan, 77, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., a former New Jersey resident, will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Matthew the Apostle Church, Edison. Arrangements are by the Boylan Funeral Home, Edison.
Mr. Gavigan died July 19 in Port St. Lucie Nursing Facility.
He was an installer for Western Electric, Kearny, for 40 years before retiring in 1984.
Mr. Gavigan was a charter member of the American Legion Father and Son Post, and a member of the Legal Order of the Moose Lodge 573. He was a volunteer with the Edison Boys Baseball League for 29 years. The league named a field in his honor.
Born in Pittston, Pa., he lived in Edison before moving to Port St. Lucie 12 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Eurleen M.; daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Federici and Mrs. Carolyn Stefanchik; sons, James and Patrick; six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Joseph Giunta

Services for Joseph Giunta, 88, of Keyport will be 9:30 a.m. tomorrow in St. Clement’s Church, Matawan. The funeral will be from the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, 501 Highway 79, Morganville.
Mr. Giunta died Monday in Bayshore Health Care Center, Holmdel.
He was a traffic-signal foreman for the city of Newark before retiring.
Mr. Giunta volunteered at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, for 15 years.
Born in New York City, he lived in Newark before moving to Keyport 27 years ago.
Surviving are sons, John and Joseph; a daughter, Mrs. Jo Ann Masucci; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and his companion, Helen Phillips.
