Benjamin M. Thomas 3rd
Lambertville - Benjamin M. Thomas 3rd, passed away on Saturday January 11, 2014 after a valiant struggle with metatastic cancer. He was 79.
Father of the late Georgeanne Thomas, he is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Jane Garb Thomas, a son Alan Carr Thomas (Frances Bouchoux) and daughter Marianne Hierspiel. He is also survived by stepdaughters Jennifer Kaplan and Victoria Nichols, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Mr. Thomas was a graduate of Brown University and Rutgers University (MA in Education) where he was anadjunct professor. He served four years in the US Navy as a reserve officer.
His career was in sales and marketing primarily in publishing, spanned 40 years before retiring. He was a superb athlete (best baseball player Brown ever had) a jazz aficionado, a gentleman and scholar.
Private funeral services and burial were help Monday at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.His dear nephew, Rabbi Jonathan Blake, will officiate.
The family respectfully requests memorial contributions be offered to Fox Chase Cancer Center, 333 Cottman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19111 (Att: Dr. Marijo Bilusic) or Chandler Hall, 99 Barclay Street, Newtown, PA 18940.

Grace C. Turner
Grace C. Turner, age 78, died at home Tuesday, December 17, 2013. Born in Walton, NY, on February 15, 1935, she resided in Hopewell for fifty-one years. Grace graduated from the State University of New York at Oneonta and was a graduate student of Cornell University. She taught Home Economics for 29 years in the Ewing Township school system, retiring in 1992. Grace was predeceased by her parents, Cyrus W. and Eleanor A. (Bogart) Connor, and her sister, Betty Reville. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Guy Spencer of Ringoes; NJ, her son, Stephen R. Turner of Titusville, NJ; two grandsons, Benjamin Spencer and William Spencer; her brother, Arthur Connor and family of Walton, NY; and two nephews, Albert Revillle, Jr. and Robert Reville, both of Alabama. A memorial service will be held at 12 pm, Friday, December 27, 2013 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. A private interment will follow the service. Friends may gather from on Friday from 11 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Harry E. Stryker
FLEMINGTON BORO, NJ - Harry E. Stryker, age 97 years of Flemington, NJ died Monday, March 15, 2004 at the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Oldwick, NJ, June 28, 1906, son of the late John C. and Margaret Ramsey Stryker, he had resided in Flemington, NJ since 1947, having formerly resided in Lebanon, NJ.
He was proprietor of Stryker's Paint Store, Flemington, NJ, retiring 25 years ago. He was a member of the Three Bridges Reformed Church; Darcy Lodge #37 F & AM of Flemington; Lebanon Fire Co. Exempt Association; a charter member of Flemington Elks Lodge #1928; member of Forest #4, Tall Cedars, Lebanon, NJ, and was a former member of the Flemington Kiwanis Club.
His first wife, Leah Bonser Stryker died in 1961, and a daughter, Lois Jane Stryker, died in 1982. Surviving are his wife, Marie Mattison Stryker; a son, John Stryker of Raritan Township, NJ; a step-son, Franklin Mattison of New Brighton, PA; two step-daughters, Betty March of Danbury, CT, and Muriel Stillwell of Cokesbury, NJ; eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Union Cemetery, Lebanon, NJ. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad, 26 Highway 12, Flemington, NJ 08822 or to the Three Bridges Reformed Church, PO Box 235, Three Bridges, NJ 08887.

Charles (Charlie) Greathouse
Charles (Charlie) Greathouse, 78, passed away at his home in Boynton Beach on Sunday, December 16, 2013. Charlie was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN and attended the Taft School in Connecticut from 1949-1953. He graduated from Princeton University in 1957 with a Bachelors of Arts and was a member of Cottage Club. Charlie cherished his days at Taft and Princeton and remained close with many of his friends from that time. After college, Charlie served in the U.S. Navy where he was stationed in Japan. Upon return, he lived in San Francisco where he worked in banking and married Caramia Musto in 1962. Their daughter Virginia Ribeyre Greathouse was born in 1963. Charlie remarried to Pamela Parsons in 1967 and they relocated to Princeton, NJ. Their daughter Landis Stockton Greathouse was born in 1970. Charlie remained in Princeton until 1982 before moving to South Florida where he happily resided for 30 years. He also spent many blissful summers on Northport Point in Northport, MI, where his family had summered for generations. Charlie was an avid sportsman and spent many of his years devoted to his great love of golf, fly fishing, horse racing and road biking. Annual summer fly fishing trips to Wise River, Montana became a highlight of his year. Early in his life, Charlie developed a great passion for baseball and fulfilling a dream, became part owner of two minor league teams in NY and MT during the early 80's. Later, in Florida, he fell in love with the excitement ofharness racing and invested in horses and training for competitive racing. Charlie was a regular golfer whose endless love for the sport fueled the ever elusive quest for the perfect backswing. Charlie had a wonderful network of friends, from childhood to present, of whom he was extremely passionate about. The family is so grateful for their great friendship and support. He is survived by his two daughters, Virginia Greathouse Baxter of Hoboken, NJ and Landis S. Greathouse of Pennington, NJ and his two grandchildren, Campbell Shaw Baxter and Diana Bonnell Baxter of Hoboken, NJ. A memorial gathering will be held at a date to be announced in January. Parsons

Janice Lynn Heckel, MD, FAAP
Janice Lynn Heckel, MD, FAAP, 58, of Orland Park, IL, died at home Christmas morning after a valiant struggle with cancer. ''Dr. Jan'' was a pediatrician who specialized in pediatric hematology and oncology. Born Sept. 30, 1955, and raised in northern Virginia, Jan entered The University of North Carolina, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in three years with a major in Chemistry. She received her MD and completed her residency at the Medical College of Virginia, serving as Chief Resident in Pediatrics from 1983-1984. For the next twelve years, she pursued both clinical care and research in oncology, tumor metastasis and related areas, and co-authored several articles, reviews, chapters and case reports. Her work included a 3-year Proctor & Gamble Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the Children's Hospital of Cincinnati, service as Research Scholar in Oncology at the hospital, and a three-year appointment as William Cooper Proctor Research Scholar with the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation. In 1991, she returned to MCV as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, and continued research and clinical care at the MCV Hospital. Dr. Heckel said that, in 1996, she ''felt the pull of community service, and began a new direction as a general pediatrician in an office practice, '' and joined practices in Cincinnati, OH and then Morganton and Hendersonville, NC. In 2005, she accepted appointment as Attending Hospitalist at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago, which allowed her to join her extensive clinical skills with her passion for inpatient care of children with complex medical conditions. She became Site Leader on the General Medicine Hospitalist Team and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Feinberg School of Medicine in 2009, and Associate Clinician in 2012, positions she held until her death. Dr. Heckel's honors included the Alpha Sigma Chi Leadership Society and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society at MCV, and the American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship Award and its Career Development Award in Oncology. Predeceased by parents, Richard and Nancy Heckel, brother Dr. Gordon Heckel, and sister Ann Heckel, she leaves behind a brother, Steven Heckel, and nephew and niece Andy Heckel and Carrie Heckel of Belle Mead, NJ; niece Cherye Paulson and her family of Moseley, VA; niece Annie Heckel and her family of Culpeper, VA; nephew Fritz Heckel of San Diego, CA; cousins Carol Bilbro and June Williams; long time best friends Dr. Mary Anne Uritis, Carol Compton Hopkins, Dr. Denise Goodman, and Cherie Rolfsen and their families; her faithful german shepherd, Gwynny; and dozens of colleagues, neighbors and friends. Her knowledge, expertise, and abilities to explain often complex medical situations; her positive, sensitive and caring manner, especially with her young charges; and her ever-present humor, are missed by all. A service in celebration of her life was held in Chicago on January 3. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in her memory go to Lurie Children's Hospital, 225 E. Chicago Avenue, Box 4, Chicago, IL 60611, to be applied to areas of greatest need in the Children's Fund for the care of children being treated.

Norman Jack Walter
Norman Jack Walter, 86, of Wilmington, NC, died Sunday, December 22, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. He was born in Philadelphia, PA, April 30, 1927, son of the late Louis F. Walter, Jr. and Wilhelmina Widmann Walter. Mr. Walter was a retired public school educator in Hightstown, NJ, completing 30 years as a teacher, administrator and athletic coach. Additionally, he served the Borough of Hightstown as a councilman and on other boards and commissions for many years. He was a graduate of The Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades in Media, Pa, The College of New Jersey, Trenton, where he earned BA and MA degrees in Industrial Education and Technology, and Rider University, Trenton, NJ, School Administration. As a teenager, Mr. Walter followed his two older brothers into the United States Navy during World War II. He participated with U.S. Amphibian Forces in the South Pacific (two campaigns) plus landing in Japan. He was reactivated by the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving on the battleship U.S.S. New Jersey BB62 off the coast of Korea. Mr. Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hightstown, NJ and St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Wilmington, NC. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a Shriner, and life member of Arab Shrine Club in Wilmington. He had life memberships in the American Legion Post 10, VFW Post 5700, DAV Chapter 11, and U.S.S. New Jersey BB62 Veterans, Inc. Mr. Walter is survived by his wife of sixty years, Helen Poulos Walter; a daughter, Charisse Walter Sary of Clarksville, MD; a sister, Grace W. Sears of Winchester, VA; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2013, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Kemppainnen officiating. Interment will be in the spring at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 612 South College Road, Wilmington, NC, 28403 or the First Baptist Church, 125 South Main Street, Hightstown, NJ, 08520. Beatrice Bernstein
Beatrice Bernstein of Monroe Township, NJ passed away peacefully at home on December 30, 2013 after a long battle with leukemia . She was 91 years old.She started her career as a full charge bookkeeper and later enjoyed her real passion: life as a fulltime homemaker. During retirement she and her husband Abe enjoyed a wonderful life in the Clearbrook retirement community. Abe passed away in 2012. She enjoyed reading, golf, baking, family outings and loved to make a delicious home cooked meal.She was an avid bridge player, as well. But her greatest joy was her family, most especially her beloved husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the matriarch of the family and everyone came to her to get advice, the proper recipe, or a birthday or anniversary date of a family member.She set a fine example for her daughters by exhibiting strength, perseverance, energy and independence. She willbe deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in law: Lois and Arnold Brief, Nita and Jeffrey Shapiro, and Joanne and Robert Carnevale. In addition she is survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A private family service was held at Washington cemetery in Monmouth Junction, NJ, on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements were organized by the Eden Memorial Chapel in Fort Lee, NJ. Maureen (Cassidy) Bowser
Maureen died peacefully at home on December 30, 2013, after a courageous three year battle to recover from a series of disabling strokes. She brought great happiness to her family and to her many friends with whom she shared good times over the years. For thirty years, Maureen pursued a strenuous but satisfying professional career with the Government Sales Division of Revlon, Inc., serving as Regional Manager (Europe) and then as Director of Sales and Special Operations in New York. After retiring from Revlon, Maureen put her considerable organizational skills to work as a legal assistant for the Bruce G. Cassidy & Associates Law Firm in Princeton, where she was loved by her co-workers and by the many clients who became her close friends. Maureen is survived in Princeton by Bruce and Regina Cassidy and by her ''best friend'' and caretaker Maria Bakradze, and by her loving son and daughter-in-law James and Patricia Gordon (of Florida), by her loving sister-in-law Britta Russo, nephew Richard Russo, and niece Caroline (and husband David) Godfrey (of Virginia) and by her wonderful cousins Mary (and her husband Peter) Golas, Gerard Maloney (of Massachusetts) and John (and wife Mary Jo) Maloney (of Maine). A private funeral service is planned, with a celebration of Maureen's life to be held in the Spring. Donations in Maureen's memory may be made to the Princeton First Aid & Rescue Squad (P.O. Anne O'Donnell Benenson
Anne O'Donnell Benenson, 85, of Hightstown, NJ, died on December 25, 2013. Born to Manus T. and Margaret O'Donnell, Jan. 28, 1928, in Olean, NY, Anne graduated from Bradford High School in 1945 and received a Nursing diploma at Syracuse University in 1948. She was a Nurse and worked in many settings, the last at Glengariff Nursing Home in Glen Cove, NY. Anne was predeceased by husband Thomas Benenson, and stepdaughter Nancy Krug; Anne and Tom lived for many years in Sea Cliff, NY. Anne was active in community organizations and a lay reader at Trinity and St. David's Episcopal churches. In 2004, they moved to Meadowlakes in Hightstown, NJ. Anne and Tom enjoyed travel and hiking, and Elderhostel. Anne is survived by daughters: Kathleen and Mary Koopman of Tucson, AZ, Jane Singer of Jerusalem, Israel, and Amy Pyle of Daytona Beach, FL; stepdaughters Jean Hummel and India Martz; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and her special companion, Breezee the cat. A private service was held at Trinity Church, Roslyn, NY; a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 18th, 2 pm, St. David's Episcopal Church, 90 S. Main, Cranbury, NJ 08512. Donations may be made inmemoriam to St. David's Episcopal Church, or The Northfield League.

LEONARD MALCOLM OBLINGER AND MILDRED ADELE OBLINGER
MARRIED 69 YEARS
Leonard Malcolm Oblinger, 93, died suddenly in Alpharetta, GA on December 23rd, 2013. Mr. Oblinger was born in New Hope, PA on August 15, 1920. Mildred Adele Danley Oblinger, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Alpharetta, GA on December 28th, 2013. She was born in Groveville, NJ on November 22, 1922. Leonard and Mildred lived in Roebling for many years. After retirement they moved to St. Petersburg, FL. They had been residing with their son and his family in Alpharetta for the past 2 years. Mr. Oblinger worked at the Roebling Steel Mill in Roebling, NJ as a tool and die maker. He was a man with many hobbies: trailer camping, gardening, electronics, photography, boating, modifying / building automobiles, (from Volkswagens to dune buggies to touring van) bowling, target shooting, home building, motorcycling, and piloting planes. He enjoyed life to it's fullest to the very end. . Neighbor's always knew who to go to if they had a problem because Len would help find the answer. He was also a Mason at the Bordentown Masonic Lodge in Bordentown NJ. Mildred worked at Roebling Steel Mill as a secretary when she was younger and after her children were grown, she worked as a secretary at Johnstone Training Center where she enjoyed her work with the mentally disabled. Mildred was an active member of the Roebling Methodist Church in Roebling, NJ for many years where she served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent, and as a member of the choir. After moving to St Petersburg, FL Mildred was a member of the St Mark's Methodist Church where she enjoyed the women's group. She was also an avid knitter and loved to do crossword puzzles and cryptograms daily. Mrs. Oblinger is survived by her brother Raymond Danley of Phoenix, AZ. Mr. and Mrs. Oblinger are also survived by their son David Oblinger of Alpharetta, GA, their 2 daughters, Janice Rutter of Chelmsford, MA and Kay Bradshaw of Naples, FL, 5 grandchildren :Colin Brechbill, Brent Rutter, Kristen Rutter, Amy Jarrow, and Jennifer Oblinger, and several great grandchildren. Leonard and Mildred will be resting together, in God's loving care, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 4900 54th Ave N, St Petersburg, FL In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
