Francis A. Rotondo, 75, Deli Owner; Army Veteran Received Purple Heart Francis A. Rotondo, 75, of Scotch Plains died on Wednesday, September 26, at his home.
Born in Plainfield, he lived in Scotch Plains for 40 years.
Mr. Rotondo had been the owner and operator of Rotondo's Oakridge Liquors and Deli from 1970 until his retirement in 1997.
He graduated from Rider University in Lawrenceville in 1952, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration.
He served in the United States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Rotondo was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains and of its Holy Name Society.
He was also a member of the Father John S. Nelligan Council of the Knights of Columbus in Scotch Plains and a member of the Disabled American Veterans of New Jersey.
Surviving is his wife, Mary K. Rotondo; three sons, John F. Rotondo of Scotch Plains, Stephen J. Rotondo and Christopher M. Rotondo, both of Edison; two daughters, Anne Marie Rotondo and Mary Frances Rotondo, both of Westfield, and six grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Saturday, September 29, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
A Mass followed at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Interment was at St. Gertrude's Cemetery
in Colonia.

Elaine M. Leone

Elaine M. Leone, 78 Elaine Marcia Leone, 78, of Fanwood died on Sunday, September 30, at Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights.
Born in Leonia, she had lived in Plainfield before relocating to Fanwood in 1958.
She moved to Runnells nine years ago.
Mrs. Leone had worked as a nurse's aide at Lyons Veterans Hospital before retiring.
She was predeceased by her husband, Domenic A. Leone, in 1970.
Surviving are a son, Richard Leone of Fanwood, and a granddaughter.
The funeral was held yesterday, Wednesday, October 3, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
A Mass followed at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment took place at Hillside Cemetery
in Scotch Plains.

Kevin Fitzpatrick
Kevin Fitzpatrick, 76, Was Teacher; Active in Politics and Volunteerism
Kevin Dwyer Fitzpatrick, 76, of Plainfield died on Sunday, September 30, 2001 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Plainfield on June 8, 1925, the son of the late Cornelius and Mary Dwyer Fitzpatrick, he had lived in Dunellen and Naples, Fla., between 1970 and 1984.
He was a resident of Plainfield for the past 14 years.
Mr. Fitzpatrick had been employed by the Newark Board of Education as a teacher from 1954 to 1980 and had also worked at Naples High School in Florida.
He was a faculty member at Washington School in Edison and at Immocaklee High School and Laley High School in Collier County, Florida.
Mr. Fitzpatrick served as First Vice President of the Edison Teachers Association.
He was a delegate to the Middlesex County Teachers Association and a member of its Speakers Bureau from 1957 to 1959.
He was a Past President of the Young Democrats in Plainfield and First Vice President of the Dunellen Democratic Club.
Mr. Fitzpatrick had served as Clerk of the Courts in Dunellen.
Mr. Fitzpatrick was a member of the Knights of Columbus National Education Association and served as Chairman of the Heart Fund in 1960.
He also was a Chairman for the Citizens for Kennedy Campaign and for Williams for Senator, both in 1960.
A communicant of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Dunellen and a member of its Holy Name Society, he also served on the Plainfield Rescue Squad from 1988 to 1989.
Mr. Fitzpatrick was a member of third- and fourth-degree Knights of Columbus John Barry Council No. 2544 in Dunellen.
He was also a volunteer firefighter and served with Emergency Medical Services in Naples, where he was Fire Commissioner from 1983 to 1987.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he also served in the Naval Reserves from 1946 to 1954.
He graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange in 1955 and received his master's degree in education from the university in 1963.
Mr. Fitzpatrick also attended St. John's University in New York.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen Fitzpatrick of Rockville, Md. and Anne Petroski of Kennsamgton, Md.; four sons, Kevin Dwyer Fitzpatrick, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Jack Fitzpatrick of Alpharetta, Ga., Donal Fitzpatrick of Naples, Fla. and Gerard Fitzpatrick of Bremerton, Wash.; three sisters, Mary Banta of Westfield, Una Christ of West Caldwell and Nora Monroe of Plainfield; a brother, Brendon Fitzpatrick of Farmington Hills, Mich., and 14 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, October 5, at St. John's Church.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, October 4, at the Sheenan Funeral Home in Dunellen.

Erna A. Hoffman

Erna A. Hoffman, 81, Was Active With Many Local Organizations Erna A. Hoffman, 81, of Westfield died on Wednesday, September 26, at Runnells Specialized Hospital of Union County in Berkeley Heights.
Born in Newark, she was a resident of Westfield for 47 years.
During and after World War II, Mrs. Hoffman had been the executive secretary to the senior administrative officer of Newark Air Base.
She was later secretary to the Chief Medical Officer at the Veterans Hospital in Lyons.
Mrs. Hoffman graduated from Upsala College in East Orange in 1941.
She was a member of Amity, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Women's Club of Westfield, the College Woman's Club of Westfield and the Westfield Historical Society.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur K. "Red" Hoffman, and two daughters, Loren Kyle Hoffman of Southwick, Mass., and E. Lisa Hoffman of Cranford.
Private funeral services were arranged under the direction of the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
