Anthony “Zip” Szczepanski, 82, of Clark, a decorated veteran, died yesterday at home.
A Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Apostle Church, Valley Road, on the Clark-Linden border. Arrangements are by the Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, Clark.
Mr. Szczepanski worked for the U.S. Postal Service, Rahway, for 35 years before retiring 20 years ago.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at St. Lo, France during the D-Day invasion of Normandy in June 1944.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 328 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars John Ruddy Post 7863, both of Clark, and the Letter Carriers Union Branch 38.
Born in Newark, he lived in Clark for the past 52 years.
Surviving are his wife, Genevieve; a son, Donald A.; two daughters, Mrs. Nancy G. Zagurek and Christine K., and two grandchildren.
Janet Halbert

Mrs. Janet Halbert, 83, of Old Bridge died yesterday in Summerhill Nursing Home, Old Bridge.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Nativity of Our Lord Byzantine Church, East Brunswick, following the funeral from the Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Rd., East Brunswick. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.
Mrs. Halbert was a cashier at Shop Rite in Spotswood for 23 years before retiring in 1993.
Active with the Nativity of Our Lord Byzantine Church, she ran the kitchen during the parish bingo games for many years and participated in many parish bus trips to Atlantic City.
Born in Perth Amboy, Mrs. Halbert lived in the Old Bridge section of Sayreville for many years.
Surviving are a son, George; two daughters, Mrs. Janice Grande and Mrs. June Wingerter; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rose Platt

A Mass for Rose Platt, 87, of Clifton will be offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Church, Parker Avenue and Monroe Street, Passaic, following the funeral from the Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton.
Mrs. Platt, who died Friday at home, owned Harry Platt’s Bar and Grill in Passaic with her late husband, Harry, for 30 years before retiring.
Born in Passaic, she lived in Clifton since 1958.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Janet McColgan and Mrs. Susan Fuentes; a brother, Ted Kozak; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Edmund S. Maciejewski

A Mass for Edmund S. Maciejewski, 74, of Linden will be offered at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Church, Linden, following the funeral from the Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 E. St. Georges Ave., Linden.
Mr. Maciejewski died Thursday in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, East Orange.
He served in the Navy during World War II.
Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Linden for five years.
Surviving are a son, E. Thomas; a sister, Mrs. Leokadia O’Keefe, and a grandchild.
Janet Johnson

Services for Mrs. Janet Johnson, 89, of Exeter, N.H., will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Watchung Presbyterian Church, Bloomfield. Arrangements are by Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, Kearny.
Mrs. Johnson, who died Thursday in the Riverwood at Exeter Nursing Home, worked for three years at the Wallace and Tiernan Co., Belleville, many years ago.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Liberty Chapter, Kearny.
Born in Falkirk, Scotland, she came to the U.S. in 192 and lived in Kearny from 1912 through 1935. She then lived in Bloomfield for 60 years before moving to Exeter three years ago.
Surviving are a son, George Jr.; two daughters, Mrs. Karin Ann Close and Mrs. Martha Lynn Gavin; a brother, John Jarvie, and five grandchildren.
Helen Spallina

A Mass for Mrs. Helen Spallina of Little Egg Harbor will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Theresa’s Church, Tuckerton.
Mrs. Spallina, who died Thursday in the Atlantic City Medical Center, Galloway Township, was born in Boston and lived in Passaic, Clifton and Lakewood before moving to Little Egg Harbor seven years ago.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph A. and Robert J.; two brothers, Rudy and Henry Johansky; a sister, Mrs. Marianne Hadzima; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Terrence C. Smith

Services for Terrence Carroll “Terry” Smith, 68, of Montville will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Dancy Funeral Home, 9 Smull Ave., Caldwell.
Mr. Smith died Thursday in the Morristown Memorial Hospital.
He was president of Central Uniform Service in Belleville from 1961 through 1988. In 1980, he founded Cen-Mat Co., which was a subsidiary of Central Uniform. At the time of his death, he was a semi-retired consultant in the industrial uniform business.
Mr. Smith was active with the Boy Scouts at Glen Gray Camp, Passaic County, the Montville Township Boy Scouts and the Montville Little League.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
Born in Newark, he lived in East Orange and Caldwell before moving to Montville in 1951.
Surviving are his wife, Rene; a daughter, Mrs. Lisa Yelmini; a son, Craig; a sister, Mrs. Doris Chenoweth, and five grandchildren.
