KATHLEEN A. JORDAN, of Kearny, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003. She was 50. She was a lifelong Kearny resident. She died at home. She was a customer relations specialist employed by United Parcel Service in Spring Valley, NY for the past 13 years. Predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Barrett (nee Fixter), she is survived by her husband, Dan Jordan and her children, Megan, Jonathan and Brian Buchanan and a stepson, Kyle Jordan; also surviving are a brother and sister, William and Mary Barrett. Funeral services were conducted by the Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen's Church. Interment
was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
ALICE MacGREGOR
ALICE MacGREGOR, of Kearny, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. She was 91. Born in Harrison, she lived there before moving to Kearny where she lived for 80 years. She died in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. She was a machine operator for Union Camp in Clifton for 27 years before retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Liberty Chapter for 50 years. Wife of the late James; mother of Joan A. Miscavage; sister of the late Elizabeth Coleman. Funeral services were conducted by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral service was held in Christ Church, Harrison. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church Memorial Fund.
ROBERT R. ROARTY
ROBERT R. ROARTY, of Hasbrouck Heights, died on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003. He was 78. Born in Courtdale, Pa., he lived in North Arlington before moving to Hasbrouck Heights 18 years ago. He died in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. He was a distributor planner for Becton Dickinson in Franklin Lakes for many years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of American Legion Post 106 and the AARP, both in Hasbrouck Heights. He served in the Army from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. Husband of Margaret (nee McDonnell); brother of the late Daniel, Joseph, William, John, Isabelle Covert and Marie Maher Ford. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny. Interment
was in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pathway to Independence Moving Fund, c/o the funeral home.
MATTHEW JACK SAVAGE
MATTHEW JACK SAVAGE, of Kearny, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. He was 77. Born in Bonhill, Scotland, he came to the U.S. 76 years ago and lived in Newark and Harrison before moving to Kearny 52 years ago. He died in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. He worked as a supervisor for the Salvation Army Newark Corps for 20 years before retiring 12 years ago. He is survived by two sons, John and Gary; a daughter, Maureen; nine grandchildren and his loving companion for 22 years, Helen Tate. Funeral services were conducted by the Thiele Family Funeral Home, 241 Kearny Ave., Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny.
VERONICA SHIELDS (nee Caldwell)
VERONICA SHIELDS (nee Caldwell), of Nutley, died on Friday, Jan. 24, 2003. She was 89. Born in Ireland, she lived in Kearny many years before moving to Nutley where she lived for the past eight years. She died in Clara Maass Continuing Care Center, Belleville. She was a member of the Harrison/East Newark Woman's Auxiliary of the PBO Elks Lodge #2326. Wife of the late Joseph, she is survived by her daughters, Monica Shields and Roberta Atwell and her husband Henry; sister of Phoebe Ferguson and Vincent Caldwell. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her children, the late Timothy and Kevin and her grandchildren the late Veronica and Richard. Funeral services were conducted by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Cecilia's Church, Kearny. Interment
was in Holy Cross Cemetery.
JOHN T. WATSON
JOHN T. WATSON, of Kearny, died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. He was 73. He was a lifelong resident of Kearny. He died in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. He was a police officer in Kearny for 35 years before retiring 19 years ago as a detective. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Joseph E. Frobisher Post 99 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Wilson-Gugelman Post 1302, both in Kearny. He was a also a member of the Police Benevolent Association Local 21, Kearny, and a trustee of Grace United Methodist Church, Kearny. He also belonged to Copestone-Ophir Lodge 108, F&AM of Kearny. Surviving are his wife, Else E.; sons, Louis, John and Tony; daughters, Kathy Filepone, Trudy Brinkley, Debbie, Virginia Lee and Heidi; sisters, Rene Modrak and Lottie Kenworthy; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Thiele Family Funeral Home, 241 Kearny Ave., Kearny.
