DR. JOHN FRANCIS RACINE (RACZYNSKI), of Las Vegas, Nev., passes away at his home. He was 49. He was born in Newark. His career included duty as a registered nurse at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, professor of Health Care Administration at Iona College and Baruch College, professor of nursing at University of Hawaii at West Oahu, professor of Health Administration at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and professor of health
professions at Florida Gulf Coast University, Fort Myers, Fla. He also served as a nursing home administrator in Fort Myers, Fla. and Rawlins, Wyoming, and Gallup, New Mexico. He concluded his career by working as a staff development coordinator for a long term care facility in Las Vegas. He received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from New York University; prior to that, a master's degree in public administration from New York University, a master's of science in religious education from Fordham University; a bachelor's degree in nursing from Columbia University; a bachelor of arts degree from Iona College and prior to that, spent three years as an Irish Christian Brother. Beloved son of Mildred Breheny and the late John Raczynski; beloved brother of Thomas and Frank Raczynski, Ann Czyzyk and Millie Fallner and the late Billy Raczynski and dear friend of Brent Small. Funeral arrangements were conducted by the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison. A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Block 69, North Arlington on Friday, June 20 at 1 p.m. with Fr. Paulo of Holy Cross Church, Harrison officiating. (Cremation was handled by Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas).
GEORGE H. SHALVOY, JR., of Kearny, Sunday, June 8, 2003. He was 78. He was a lifelong resident of Kearny. He died in West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. He worked in the human resources department of the New Jersey Department of Labor in Jersey City before retiring in 1987. Previously, he was a print operator at Griffith Spice Labs, Union. He also worked as an auto mechanic. He owned and operated Shalvoy Automotive Services in Kearny. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth (nee Carberry); a son, George H. III; a brother, Paul and a sister, Sister Margaret Alice Shalvoy, a Sister of Charity. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Shalvoy Robinson. Funeral services were conducted by the Condon Funeral Home, 684 Kearny Ave., Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen's Church, Kearny. Interment
was in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's Church, 141 Washington Ave., Kearny, 07032.
MICHAEL TESTA, of Newark, formerly of Kearny, died on Sunday, June 8, 2003. He was 52. Born in Newark, he lived in Kearny before moving to Newark one year ago. He died in Columbus Hospital. He was inventory control clerk for the I.R.S. in Newark for 20 years before retiring in 1985. Husband of Denise (nee Paolini); father of Kimberly Testa and Sean Testa; son of Milton and Florence Testa; brother of Larry Testa, Dolores Lutkus and Maryanne Magliaro; also survived by four nieces and four nephews. Funeral services were conducted by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Cecilia's Church, Kearny.
DOROTHY YANKOSKI (nee Richard), of Harrison, died on Saturday, June 7, 2003. She was 87. Born in Danville, Pa., she lived in Harrison for the last 40 years. She died at St. Barnabas Hospice and Palliative Care Center at Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark. She worked at Tight Flex Aviation, Newark, and volunteered at West Hudson Hospital, Kearny, for 20 years until 1993. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Rosary
Society and Sodality. Beloved wife of the late Joseph V.; devoted mother of Doreen Bowers and Joseph; cherished grandmother of five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; loving sister of Larry Richard and dear friend of Nancy Muderski. Funeral services were conducted by the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison. A funeral mass was held in Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Kearny. Interment

ELIZABETH E. HERING (nee Koening), of Kearny , died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 . She was 77. Born in Hoboken , she lived in New York before moving to Kearny in 1986. She was a homemaker. She died in West Hudson Hospital , Kearny. She was a member of the Calvary Methodist Church of Kearny and its Women’s Association. She served as the Women’s Association secretary. Predeceased by her husband Irwin, she is survived by a son, Stephen Hering and his wife, Liz, of Kearny ; two grandsons, Patrick Hering and Ryden Cohen; and many loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Memorial services will be held at the Edward T. Reid Home for Funerals, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny , on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Calvary Methodist Church, Kearny.
MARGARET POLO (Shepherd) (nee Leavy), of Kearny , died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002 . She was 71. Born in Maspeth , N.Y. , she lived in Queens before moving to Kearny 50 years ago. She was a cashier with A&P supermarkets in Kearny and Nutley for many years before retiring seven years ago. She was a member of the Rosary Society of St. Anthony’s Church. Wife of Charles Polo and the late Charles Shepherd; mother of Charles L. Shepherd, Catherine D. Shepherd and James T. Shepherd and his wife, Joan; stepmother of Charles T. Polo and his wife, Susan; grandmother of Danielle Gartz, Carolyn and Michael Niedzenski and Delia and James Shepherd; step-grandmother of Michele and Samantha Polo; great-grandmother of the late Emma Lynn Gartz; niece of the late Brother Benedict James Ginnane, F.S.C. and cousin of Joan Fealey. He was a photographer for Bambergers/Macy’s, Newark, before retiring in 1995. Husband of Marion (nee Levy) of Wood-Ridge; father of David (Stephanie) of Montclair ; brother of Sonya (Ross) Valentiane of Long Island. Funeral services were conducted by the Kohler Funeral Home, 280 Hackensack St., Wood-Ridge. Cremation was at East Ridgelawn Crematory.
