NEIL R. SICILIANO

NEIL R. SICILIANO, of Wood-Ridge, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002. He was 65. Born in Kearny, he lived in Wood-Ridge for 38 years. He died at Hackensack University Medical Center. He was the owner of Siciliano Consulting Engineers, Wood-Ridge since 1977, he worked on numerous projects in New Jersey and New York and most recently on a building at Carnegie Hall and at the Museum of American Folk Art, both in New York City. The firm was recognized for excellence in the construction of the latter structure. Prior to forming the consulting company, he was owner and president of Com-Det, Inc., a reinforced concrete specialist in Wood-Ridge. In the 1960s, he worked for U.S. Steel as supervisor and engineering and sales for New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. He graduated from The Citadel Military College in South Carolina with a degree in civil engineering. An Air Force veteran, he was a first lieutenant with the 839th Civil Engineering Squadron from 1959 to 1962. He was a ember of the N.J. Society of Professional Engineers, the American Concrete Institute and the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institutes. A former zoning board member in Wood-Ridge, he belonged to the Lions Club in Hasbrouck Heights and the Knights of Columbus as an honorary member. Surviving are his wife, Irene; a son, Steven Neil; a daughter, Susan Zottarelli; his father, Salvatore Siciliano; a sister, Marion Steen and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by the Edward T. Reid Home for Funerals, 585 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral mass was held in Assumption Church, Wood-Ridge.

ALICE L. STEVEN

ALICE L. STEVEN, of Wadsworth, OH, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002. She was 89. Born in Kearny, she lived in Toms River before moving to Wadsworth, OH. She died at Golden League Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wadsworth, Ohio. She was retired from the American Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. She was a charter member of Ocean County Evangelical Free Church of Lakehurst. Predeceased by her son, Clyde and brothers, Warren and Clarence, she is survived by her husband, Chester; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Verne Waldow of Wadsworth, OH; grandchildren, Deanna Lloyd (Harold), Virginia Cope (Larry), Verne Waldow, Jr. (Sarah), Jeremy Waldow, Christa Ondrey (Kevin) and Luke Waldow; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Edith Casement of Toms River, Ruth Inglis (Jim) of Hampton, N.H.; daughter-in-law, Gail Steven; sisters-in-law, Margaret Covert and Marian Covert. Funeral services were conducted by the Cinello Funeral Home-Rose Hill Chapel, Wadsworth, OH. Interment was in Rose Hill Burial Park.

JOSEPH F. TRUSKOLAWSKI

JOSEPH F. TRUSKOLAWSKI, of Kearny, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2002. He was 83. Born in Detroit, Mich., he lived in Poland before moving to Kearny 50 years ago. He died at West Hudson Hospital, Kearny. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He interpreted Russian, German and Polish for New York district courts prior to serving four years in the Army and then served in the Medical Corps. He owned Joe’s Liquor and Deli in Kearny for 26 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Flew Gliders in Poland, American Legion Post 99, founding member and trustee of the Polish Cultural Foundation in Clark, trustee of Kingsland Bank in East Newark and the Senior Men’s Club of Kearny. He graduated from the St. Sigmund College in Bialystok, Poland. Husband of Valerie (nee Guladwinski); father of Celeste, Dr. Justine Szkudlarek, John, Joseph, Thomas and the late Zita; brother of Stanley, Kazimierz, Jennie Suleski and Tessie Babinski; grandfather of seven grandchildren, Emily, Kim, Catherine, Julia, Alexis, Kara and Deanna. Funeral services were conducted by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home, 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. A funeral mass was held in St. Stephen’s Church. Entombment was in Holy Cross Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Polish Cultural Foundation, Clark.

PHYLLIS M. TRAVISANO (nee DiGiacomo)

PHYLLIS M. TRAVISANO (nee DiGiacomo), of Kearny, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2002. She was 89. Born in Newark, she lived in Kearny most of her life. She also lived in Lauderhill, Fla. She died at St. Mary’s Pavilion, Orange. She was a real estate broker and owner of the Lauron Agency in Belleville for 20 years before retiring in 1985. She was past president of the Board of Realtors of Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Nutley and Belleville. She was also a member of Glen Ridge Country Club. Survived by her son, Ronald D. Travisano of Glen Ridge; daughter, Laura A. Sammarco of Montclair; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Vincent DiGiacomo. Funeral services were conducted by the Caggiano Memorial Home, 62 Grove St., Montclair. Entombment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rainbows, Inc. of New Jersey, 55 Woodland Ave., Summit, N.J. 07901.

WILLIAM A. WEIR “RED”

WILLIAM A. WEIR “RED”, of Perth Amboy, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2002. He was 66. Born in Newark, he lived in Harrison for 22 years before moving to Perth Amboy where he resided for the last 44 years. He died at Old Bridge Manor, Old Bridge. He worked for Standard Tallow 24 years before retiring 11 years ago. He was an Army veteran, serving 1954 to 1956, in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Elks of Sayreville and Fur, Feather and Fin, Cranford Chapter. Beloved husband of Beverly Weir (nee Traynor); devoted father of Susan Gross, Scott, Bruce and William Weir; loving grandfather of Tiffany, Glenn, Allison, Kenneth, Gregory, Starlyn, Ashlyn, Devon, Kyler and cherished great-grandfather of Sarah and Daron. Funeral services were conducted by the Mulligan Funeral Home, 331 Cleveland Ave., Harrison. Interment was in Arlington Cemetery.

DeKANY - Louis, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Kearny, West Milford and Bricktown, on Nov. 1, 2002. Husband of Bernadette (La France), father of Louis of New Port Richey, Fla., and Rene Walsh of Bricktown, brother of Richard of Hilton Head, S.C., and Donald of Wayne, N.J., grandfather of Rhiannon and Dylan Walsh, Ashley, Matthew and Louis DeKany IV.
