PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP -- Suzanne Stelle Tarkan, 38, died Saturday at home.
Born in Trenton, she lived in Browns Mills the last several years.
An insurance claims adjuster for Andrews & Assoc., she attended Hamilton and Ewing public schools.
She is survived by a son, Victor Tarkan III at home; her father, Robert Stelle of Pemberton; her mother and husband, Sandra and Michael Carroll of Trenton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert Jr. and Laura Stelle and Robert A. Stelle, all of Pemberton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Georgianne and Richard Hargrove of Riverton, Michele and Joseph Bock of Ewing, and Carole Stelle of Pemberton; her maternal grandmother, Marian Macaulay of Ewing; and other relatives.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hartmann Funeral Home, 2830 Nottingham Way, Mercerville.
Burial will be in Ewing Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

RARITAN TOWNSHIP -- Shirley Evans Batt, 79, died Tuesday at Bridgeway Care Center, Bridgewater Township.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Raritan Township in 1993.
She was a homemaker.
Daughter of the late Samuel and Rebecca "Betty" Bernstein Evans and wife of the late Louis Batt, she is survived by a son, Gerald Batt of Raritan Township; a brother, Irwin Evans of San Diego; a sister, Phoebe Feldman of Rockville Center, Long Island, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at New Montefiore Cemetery, Pinelawn, N.Y.
There will be no calling hours.

William M. Batten, 89, former head of J.C. Penney

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- William M. Batten, a former head of J.C. Penney Co., Inc., died Friday. He was 89.
Mr. Batten, the company's fourth chairman and chief executive officer from 1958 to 1974, guided J.C. Penney's growth into a diversified, mass-merchandising chain.
The transformation from small-town stores was launched by a memo Mr. Batten wrote in 1957 detailing changes in the country's population, especially shifts to large cities and suburbs. The memo's proposed changes included expansion of the merchandise mix and an end to the chain's "cash only" policy.
Mr. Batten retired in 1974 and two years later was invited to become chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. He retired again in 1984.
Jill Darling Burkhauser

HAMILTON -- Jill Darling Burkhauser died Wednesday at home.
Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong Trenton-Hamilton resident.
She worked for the New Jersey Department of Health, Trenton.
She enjoyed arts and crafts.
Daughter of the late Frederick R. Darling, she is survived by her mother, Helen M. Darling; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Richard Metelsky of Hamilton; two sons, William and Thomas C. Burkhauser, both of Hamilton; and three grandchildren, Thomas, Amy and Kristopher Metelsky, all of Hamilton.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, with the Rev. George Morris, pastor of St. Mark United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be private.
Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

ESSEX COUNTY, Va. -- Susie L. Clark, 76, died Saturday at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital, Trenton.
Born in Essex County, Va., she lived in Pedricktown, N.J., before moving to Trenton 54 years ago.
She graduated from Bowling Green High School and worked at Westinghouse Electric Corp, Camden, and General Motors Corp., Ewing, until retiring.
She was a former member of Trenton Church of Christ, serving on the usher board and choir, a member of Bible Way Church of Trenton and churches in Asbury Park, N.J., presided over by Bishop Clark. She was a member of First Antioch Church of the Lord more than 30 years, president of its missionary and usher boards, member of its trustee board and was a Sunday school teacher and district mother.
Daughter of the late Felix and Sally Washington, she is survived by her husband, Bishop William A. Clark II; a son, Ronald P. Clark of Robbinsville, N.J.; three godchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Antioch Church of the Lord, 188 Pennington Ave., Trenton, with Bishop A. Phillip Perry of Bible Way Church of Trenton officiating.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church.
Interment will be in Ewing (N.J.) Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, Trenton.

TRENTON -- Michael "Shakoor" Clegg, 35, died Tuesday at Albert Einstein Medical Center.
Born and educated in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
Son of the late John and Emma Clegg, he is survived by a son and his mother, Ameer and Jacqueline Sallie-Clegg, both of Trenton; seven sisters and three brothers-in-law, Althria George, Laurie and Alvin Downing, Daisy and Larry Hamilton of Trenton, Yvonne and Mayes Self Sr. of Ewing, Debbie Miller, and Kim and Denise Clegg, all of Morrisville, Pa.; six brothers and two sisters-in-law, Tyrone George, John Clegg Jr., Kenneth and Lynore Clegg, all of Trenton, Clifford and Gail Clegg of Oakland, Calif., Douglas Clegg of Morrisville, Pa., and Derrick Clegg of Bordentown; a friend, Dorothea Cox of Philadelphia; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at El Bethel Baptist Church, 715 Bellevue Ave., Trenton.
Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11:00 until service Friday at the church.

WEST WINDSOR -- Ingy Cox, 12, died Wednesday at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, New York City.
Born in Morristown, he lived in West Windsor the past 10 years.
He was a seventh-grade student at The Lewis School, Princeton.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dutch Neck, and its Junior High Youth Fellowship and West Windsor Little League.
He is survived by his parents, Ingemar and Susan Cox of West Windsor; a sister, Zoe Cox at home; and many relatives in England.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church of Dutch Neck, 154 S. Mill Road, with the Rev. Floyd Churn, pastor, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
