Oscar J. Sokoloff, Middlesex County dermatologist

CRANBURY -- Oscar J. "Mike" Sokoloff, 90, died Wednesday at Cranbury Care and Nursing Center.
Born in New York City, he lived in North Brunswick 20 years and Concordia in Monroe Township before moving to the nursing center.
He was a dermatologist in New Brunswick 40 years, chief of staff at St. Peter's Medical Center and chief of dermatology at Middlesex General Hospital.
After retiring, he was a medical consultant for the state Department of Health.
He was an Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II, serving as captain and caring for troops aboard hospital ships.
He attended Stuyvesant High School, where he was an all-city soccer goalie and graduated from New York University.
He received a medical degree in dermatology from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and served his residency at Skin and Cancer Hospital, New York City.
He enjoyed golf.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Copleman Sokoloff; two sons, Jonathan Berryhill of Rhinebeck, N.Y., and Michael Sokoloff of Iowa City, Iowa; two stepsons, Jonathan Epstein of Pennington and Robert Epstein of San Francisco; a stepdaughter, Judy Gage of Manhattan; and five grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Sunday at M. David DeMarco Funeral Home, 205 Rhode Hall Road, Monroe.
Cremation was private.
Harry Silver

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. -- Harry Silver, 94, died Sunday at The Medical Center at Princeton.
Born in Poland, he moved to the United States in 1948.
He was a Holocaust survivor and spent two years in a displaced persons camp in Italy.
He was a founding father and first president of Congregation Anshei Emuna, Delray Beach.
Husband of the late Tanya Feldsher Silver and father of the late Jeanette Koffler, he is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Notterman of Hightstown, N.J., and Esther Marton of Reston, Va.; two sons, Morris and Lewis Silver of New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

CRANBURY -- Phil Pepperman, 74, died Tuesday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Born in New York City, he lived in Oceanside, N.Y., before moving to Cranbury six years ago.
He retired as a certified public accountant with Hallmark Electric Co. after more than 20 years.
He was a member of B'nai Brith, Knights of Pythias, Brandeis and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Son of the late Louis and Frieda Pepperman, he is survived by his wife, Elaine Auerbach Pepperman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lewis and Rita Pepperman of Pennington and Kenneth and Amy Pepperman of Little Neck, N.Y.; a daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Chester McMillan of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, David, Alex and Lauren Pepperman, Scott, Bonnie and Lisa McMillan.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, with Rabbi Lynn Koshner and Cantor David Wisnia of Har Sinai Temple officiating.
Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.
Period of Mourning will be observed Thursday through Sunday at the Pepperman residence, Pennington, and Monday through Wednesday at the Pepperman residence, Cranbury.

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. -- Aaron Nelson Payne, 21, died April 15 in Allentown, Pa.
Born in Allentown, Pa., he lived there and in Bristol, Pa., before moving to Fort Walton Beach.
He served in the Navy in the explosive ordnance disposal detachment unit and was stationed at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida.
He was a 1996 graduate of William Allen High School and a member of the Navy ROTC.
He is survived by his parents, Charles A. Sr. and Martha M. Payne of Allentown, Pa.; two brothers, Charles A. Jr. and Travis A. Payne, both of Allentown, Pa.; a sister, Angela Brooks of Baltimore; a grandfather, Nelson Boulware of Levittown, Pa.; a great-grandmother; and other relatives.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Community Baptist Church, 1493 Ashby Ave., Bristol, Pa., with the Rev. Joseph Wright, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Bristol Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 8:30 a.m. until service at the church.

LAWRENCE -- Mary Murray, 90, died Monday at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital, Trenton.
Born in Callan, Ireland, she lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. 65 years and Tillson, N.Y., before moving to New Jersey in 1991.
She was a homemaker.
Daughter of the late James and Linda Collins, wife of the late John J. Murray and mother of the late Patrick J. Murray, she is survived by a daughter, Mary B. Kearney of Callan; a daughter-in-law, Helga E. Murray of Lawrenceville; three grandchildren, Kirsten Howell of Allentown, N.J., and James John and Michael Kearney of Callan; and two great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Morris Hall, 1 Bishops Drive, Lawrenceville.
Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Rosendale, N.Y.
There will be no calling hours.

OCEANVIEW, Del. -- Karen LaCanna, 52, died Monday at Beebe Medical Center, Lewis.
Born in Irvington, N.J., she lived in Dunellen, N.J., 22 years before moving to Oceanview three years ago.
She was a supervisor and labor relations manager for Bell Atlantic, Newark, retiring in 1996 after 31 years.
Daughter of the late Thomas and Jean Zrinko, she is survived by her husband of 30 years, Nick LaCanna; a son, Timothy LaCanna of Dunellen, N.J.; three brothers, Thomas W. Zrinko of North Brunswick, N.J., Russel E. Zrinko of Levittown, Pa., and Paul J. Zrinko of Lawrenceville, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Church, North Plainfield, N.J.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway, N.J.

Joseph P. Kirlin Jr.

MORRISVILLE, Pa. -- Joseph P. Kirlin Jr., 80, died Wednesday at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital, Trenton.
Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Collingdale before moving to Morrisville in 1963.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 103rd Infantry regiment 43rd Division in the Philippines and Japan .
He was honorably discharged in 1946 and assigned to the 304th Civil Affairs Reserve Unit, serving in several capacities before being inducted as commander, where he remained until retiring as a colonel in 1973.
He retired as deputy director of management information systems from Army Electronics Command, Fort Monmouth, in 1978 after 15 years and worked for Sperry Rand and the Quartermaster, Philadelphia.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, where he was an usher and CCD instructor, its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus and as assistant director of Youth Employment Service program.
He attended University of Pennsylvania, took industrial management classes at Wharton Business School and graduated from LaSalle University in 1972 with a degree in business administration.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa P. Rice Kirlin; three daughters and a son-in-law, Theresa Ann and Fred Dallas, Joan M. Graves and Maureen J. Kirlin; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Joseph Patrick III and Sue Kirlin, James Joseph Kirlin and Patrick Joseph and Lyn Kirlin; grandchildren, Freddy, Cindy, Chris and Cori Dallas, Robyn and Mike Fogarty, Kelly and Rob Scarborough, Kathy, Matt and Jenna Graves, and Katie, Joey, Lindsay, Ryan and Colleen Kirlin; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harry and William Kirlin of Philadelphia; a sister; Sue Madison of Newtown Square, Pa.; and other relatives.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 752 Big Oak Road, Lower Makefield.
Burial will be 9 a.m. Friday in Arlington National Cemetery.
