William Plapinger

YARDLEY, Pa. -- William Ross Plapinger, 41, died Saturday at the Medical Center at Princeton.
Born in Trenton, he lived in Oakland, Calif. 20 years before moving to Yardley two years ago.
He was an attorney and partner of Miller, Starr and Regalia in Oakland, Calif.
He was a marathon runner, tennis player and member of the California Bar Association.
He graduated from Princeton Day School and Stanford University, earning his law degree at Boston University.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Adele and David B. Black of Yardley; his father, Wallace Plapinger of Miami Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Bruce Plapinger of Mount Laurel, N.J. and Keith Plapinger of Boston; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be private at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing.
Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery.

Ethel Mae Poland

MORRISVILLE, Pa. -- Ethel Mae "Sis" Fischer Poland, 76, died Friday at Statesman Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Levittown, Pa.
Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident.
She was a member of Bordentown Elks Club, former member of Morrisville Women's Softball League and member of Ladies Auxiliary of Morrisville Little League.
Wife of the late Donald J. Poland, mother of the late Richard T. Poland, daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Ashmore Fischer, mother-in-law of the late Joanne Poland and sister of the late George H. Fischer, she is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis J. Jr. and Janet Poland of Yardley, George "Pinky" Poland of Morrisville; a daughter, Bonnie M. Poland of Bristol; two brothers, Charles Fischer of Fallsington and Edward Fischer of Morrisville; six grandchildren, Dennis J. Jr., Scott, John, Richard, Jessica and Rebecca Poland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at J. Allen Hooper Funeral Chapel, 41 W. Trenton Ave., Morrisville, with Rev. James MacMain, pastor of Morrisville United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Morrisville Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the chapel.

TRENTON -- Ramond Robert Sawyer, 57, died Wednesday at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital.
Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., he was a longtime Trenton resident.
Son of the late Deacon Brist D. and Carrie Etta Sumner-Sawyer, he is survived by his wife, Annie Poole Sawyer; a daughter, BeLinda Sawyer at home; three sons, Robert, Ramond and James Sawyer, all of Trenton; three sisters, Mattie King, Odessia Johnson and Lois Sawyer, all of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three brothers, Rev. Matthew and Rev. George Sawyer, both of Detroit, and Milton Sawyer of Elizabeth City; six sisters-in-law, Sarah Sawyer of Chesapeake, Va., Lillie, Deborah and Maggie Sawyer, all of Detroit., Mary Campbell and Wyoma Poole of Trenton; three brothers-in-law, Earnest Johnson of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Robert and Johnnie Poole, both of Trenton; nine grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell Funeral Chapel, 1225 Calhoun St., Trenton, with Rev. T.L. Steele, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery.

W. Donald Walling

EAST BRUNSWICK -- W. Donald Walling, 83, died Wednesday at home.
Born in Hudson Falls, N.Y., he lived in East Brunswick since 1956.
He received a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., and attended Teachers College at Columbia University. He received a doctorate in educational administration in 1954.
He was a member of the Metropolitan School Development Council, where he created "Walling Polls" to measure school effectiveness. He was director of school finance at the New York State Department of Education and designed the model for statewide school district regionalization. He was business administrator in Hicksville, N.Y., public schools before becoming full professor of educational administration and supervision at Rutgers University, and director of field studies and research. He was an authority on enrollments projection, public education financing and school construction.
During World War II, he was captain of the 9th Army Air Corps in Great Britain, France and Belgium from 1941 to 1945 and directed forecasting for allied bombing.
Husband of the late Jean Sears Walling and father of the late William Walling, he is survived by his brother, Harry Walling of Binghamton, N.Y.; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Mary Walling of Hudson, Mass., Peter and Eileen Walling of West Windsor and Jon and Richard Walling of East Brunswick; six grandchildren, Jeff, Kate, Sarah, Jennifer, Kevin and Kaitlyn Walling; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at Rutgers Kirkpatrick Chapel, George Street, New Brunswick.
Cremation will be at the family's convenience.
Arrangements are by Rezem Funeral Home, East Brunswick.

CHESTERFIELD -- Allen K. Woodward, 88, died Friday at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital.
Born in Cookstown, he was a lifelong resident of Crosswicks.
He was retired from Brick Milling Co., working 28 years as a salesman and serviceman.
He was a lifetime member of Crosswicks United Methodist Church and chairman of its administration board; member of Crosswicks Volunteer Co. more than 66 years, serving as president, chief, and chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners of District 1; president of Fireman's Relief of Chesterfield and parade marshal; past president of Crosswicks Men's Club; member of Hamilton Grange 79 more than 50 years; and was recognized in 1998 for service to the church, community and fire department.
Son of the late Harry and Anna Woodward, father of the late Iris A. Vinson and Andrew A. Woodward, and grandfather of the late Brian Woodward, he is survived by his wife, Gladys Breazeale Woodward; a son and daughter-in-law, A. Kenneth and Sue Woodward of Crosswicks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Mel Smulczenski of Pittsburgh and Arlene and John Facey of Clarksburg, Md.; three stepdaughters, Katherine Nicholson of Maine, Betty Schott and husband Karl, and Doris Weiss and husband Burt, all of Hamilton; a stepson, Bronce Breazeale of Hamilton; a sister, Mary Cypher of Crosswicks; nine grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Crosswicks United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward F. Conway, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be in North Crosswicks Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Peppler Funeral Home, 114 S. Main St., Allentown, N.J.

WILLINGBORO -- Elizabeth Johnson Schaffhauser, 79, died Wednesday.
Born in Vincentown, she lived in Willingboro.
She worked in the custodial department at Neeta School for many years.
She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association.
Wife of the late William, she is survived by seven sons, George of Key West, Fla., William of Winston-Salem, N.C., Michael of Cherry Hill, James of Atco, Joe of Bedford, Texas, Bob of El Segundo, Calif., and Tom of Lawrenceville, Ga.; five daughters, Dolores Amoroso of Blowing Rock, N.C., Joan Smith of Willingboro, Betsy Saia of Browns Mills, Barb Haswell of Pennsauken and Eileen McCray of Oceanview; a brother, Joseph Johnson of Collingswood; a sister, Ruth Arnwine of Groveville; 24 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 8 a.m. Saturday from Snover/Givnish of Cinnaminson, 1200 Route 130 North.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Riverton.
Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park.

TRENTON -- Shirley Rooks, 57, died Tuesday at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital.
Born in Lake Providence, La., she lived in Trenton more than 40 years.
She was a clerical supervisor for the state Division of Motor Vehicles.
She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, its usher board and gospel chorus.
She was educated in Lake Providence public schools.
Daughter of the late Albert and Mabel Seals and sister of the late Albert Seals Jr., she is survived by a daughter, Kerri Seals; two grandchildren, Maia and Camara Seals, all of Trenton; three sisters, W. Ruth Rosser of Trenton, Darlene Dulaney of Little Rock, Ark., and Sersey Seals of Jackson, Miss.; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, B. Joe and Marion Seals of Nuremberg, Germany, Odell and Jacqueline Seals of Cincinnati and Sonny Seals of Texas; and other relatives.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church, 316 Union St., with the Rev. James L. Goolsby, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.
