PLEASANTVILLE -- Doris J. Montgomery Prescott, 62, died Saturday at home.
Born in Jersey City, and raised in Princeton, she moved to the Atlantic City/Pleasantville area in 1978.
She was a pit boss at Trump's Taj Mahal casino, Atlantic City. Previously, she taught in Trenton and Pleasantville's school systems. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Princeton and Mount Zion Baptist Church, Pleasantville. A graduate of Trenton State College, she was an Alpha Kappa Alpha member. She was also past president of Pleasantville Democratic Club.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Prescott of Pleasantville; a brother, Richard "Dicky" Montgomery of Princeton; three nephews, Ricky Bedford of Atlantic City, Timmy Bedford of Sicklerville and Richard Montgomery of Gainesville, Ga.; a niece, Patty Ann Postell of Richmond, Va.; four aunts; three godchildren; and other relatives.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Zion Baptist Church, South New Road and Marple Avenue.
Burial will be in Absecon Presbyterian Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until service Thursday at the church.
Another funeral service will be 8 p.m. until service Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Princeton, John Street and Paul Robeson Place.
Calling hours for the second service will be 7 p.m. until service Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Foundation, 1060 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, N.J. 08034, or to Mount Zion Baptist Church, South New Road and Marple Ave., Pleasantville, N.J. 08232, or to First Baptist Church of Princeton, John Street and Paul Robeson Place, Princeton, N.J. 08542.

Richard Peroni Sr.
04/27/99
TRENTON -- Richard Peroni Sr., 68, died Saturday at Millhouse Nursing and Convalescent Center.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong resident.
He was an Army veteran, serving with a paratrooper division during the Korean War.
He retired from Hooker Chemical Co., Burlington, in 1978 after many years. He owned the Upholstery Co. of Mercerville 20 years, and worked for Peroni's Upholstery Co., Lawrenceville.
He enjoyed bowling.
Son of the late Vincent and Elizabeth Bartolomei Peroni and brother of the late John, Andrew and Alfred Peroni and Philomina Toth, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael C., and Richard Jr. and Louise Peroni, all of Trenton; two grandsons, Richard III and Nicholas Peroni; his former wife, Vallie Peroni of Trenton; four brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Johanna Peroni, Joseph and Lucy Peroni, and Morris and Emma Peroni, all of Trenton, and Angelo and Betty Peroni of Florence, Mass.; a sister, Nancy Massaro of Trenton; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday from Winowicz Funeral Home, Adeline and Beatty streets, Trenton.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joachim's Church, Trenton, with Msgr. Thomas Gervasio officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Hamilton.
Calling hours will be 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Mercer Unit, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, N.J. 08648; or send Mass cards.

Sister Mary Anne McVey

WATCHUNG -- Sister Mary Anne McVey, 101, died Monday at Overlook Hospital, Summit.
Born in Gloucester City, she lived there until 1921. From then on, she was a longtime Watchung resident.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy of New Jersey in 1921, making her First Profession in 1923 and her Final Profession in 1928. She taught at schools in North Plainfield, Red Bank and Camden from 1922 to 1975. She was principal at St. Mary Academy, Lakewood, and St. Paul School, Princeton. From 1975 until her death, she was at The McAuley Hall Health Care center, first serving as a clerical assistant and later in auxiliary services.
Trained as a lyric soprano under a member of the Philadelphia Opera Society, she sang for famed choir director Nicola Montani. She was a soloist at a 1991 concert at Georgian Court College to celebrate Women's History Month.
She received a bachelor's degree from Georgian Court College, a master's degree in economics from Villanova University and continuing education credits at Temple University and Rider College.
She is survived by two nieces, Mary Anne Baltish of Haddon Heights and Kathleen McVey Fitzpatrick of Gloucester; a nephew, James McAnally of Mendham; a great-niece; and three great-nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m Thursday at Chapel of St. Catherine of Siena at McAuley Hall, 1633 Highway 22.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at McAuley Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of Mercy, 1645 Highway 22, Watchung, N.J. 07060, or Camden Catholic High School, Route 38 and Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, N.J. 08002.

Harold E. Karthauser
04/27/99
WHITING -- Harold E. Karthauser, 91, died Saturday at Crestwood Manor, Manchester Township.
Born in New York City, he lived in Lawrenceville before moving to Whiting in 1991.
He was a purchasing agent for Bayer Aspirin Co., Trenton, 27 years before retiring. He was a member of Slackwood Presbyterian Church, Lawrenceville, and attended Lakehurst Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Acacia Lodge 85 F&AM of Greenwich, Conn.
Husband of the late Anna Bridge Karthauser, he is survived by nieces and nephews.
Private funeral arrangements are by Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals.

Eleanor B. Hillman
04/27/99
VENICE, Fla. -- Eleanor B. Hillman, 71, died Saturday.
Born in Trenton, she moved to Florida from Ewing, N.J. in 1978.
She was a former hostess at Dearbury Donuts, Nokomis, many years. She was a member of American Legion Post 159, Venice.
She is survived by four sons, John W. Phillips of Venice, William "Buz" Hillman of Warrington, Pa., Wayne R. Hillman of Venice, and Robert A. Hillman of North Port; and nine brothers and sisters, including Bill Simmons of Venice; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ewing Funeral Home, Venice.

Frieda Halpern Garber
04/27/99
TRENTON -- Frieda Halpern Garber, 87, died Sunday at home.
Born in Newark, she was a 65-year Trenton area resident.
She was vice president of Council of Jewish Women, a member of Adath Israel Congregation, where she was co-chairperson of its board of education, and an American Red Cross volunteer. She also was an honorary life member of Board of Jewish Family and Children Services and a member and program chairwoman of the Jewish Community Center's Golden Age Club.
Daughter of the late Benjamin and Rose Halpern and wife of the late Dr. Louis Garber, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Gabriel and Devera Garber of Yardley, Pa.; a daughter, Ellen Garber of Lincoln, Mass.; nine grandchildren, Roger, Amie and Adam Baker, Gregory, Missy and Robert Garber and Seth, Dani and Marc Rothschild; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, with Rabbi Daniel Grossman and Cantor Arthur Katlin officiating.
Burial will be in Fountain Lawn Memorial Park.
Period of mourning will be observed today at the Garber residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood House, 53 Walter St, Trenton, N.J. 08628, or a charity of the donor's choice.

John A. Freund
04/27/99
TRENTON -- John A. Freund, 91, died Friday at Water's Edge Adult Home.
A lifelong Trenton resident, he earned his master's degree in chemical engineering from Trenton State College.
He taught radar courses while working for the Navy during World War II.
He also taught engineering courses at Temple University, Philadelphia; Trenton State College; Swarthmore (Pa.) College; and Drexel University, Philadelphia, where he also graduated.
He founded Trenton Technical Institute in 1946 and served as its director until retiring in 1986.
He was a member of American-Hungarian Association, Trenton; Navy League Men's Council; and Trenton Chamber of Congress. He was a life member of Trenton Elks Lodge 105 and Trenton Lions Club, where he had just received the club's humanitarian services award. He was a former member of Mercer County Engineers Club.
Son of the late Stephen and Mary Toth Freund and brother of the late William Freund and Marilyn Freund Kondor, he is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen M. Yeager Freund of Trenton; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbra V. and Raymond W. Pety; a grandson, Jeffrey C. Pety of Jacobstown; and three nieces.
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 540 Chestnut Ave., south Trenton.
A gathering of friends and sharing () will be 9:30 until mass Thursday at the church.
Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Capital Improvement Fund, 540 Chestnut Ave., Trenton, N.J. 08611.
Arrangements are by Winowicz Funeral Service.
