John Phillip Johnson

WELLFLEET, Mass. -- John Phillip Johnson, 78, died Wednesday at home.
Born in Viborg, S.D., he lived in New York City, Montrose, Westchester County, N.Y., and Hopewell Township, N.J., 30 years before moving to Wellfleet.
He was an industrial and toy designer and children's magazine designer, retiring in 1985. He was a senior designer with Corning Glass Works and a freelance consultant for 12 years.
In 1963, he became the design director of Creative Playthings, an educational toy company in Princeton, N.J. He opened a design office in Princeton and New York City and contracted with Scholastic to produce the new "WOW" magazine. His toy designs were featured in Industrial Design Magazine, Art in America, and Domus. His designs were also included in an exhibition of American toy design at the Muse'c des Arts De'coratifs, Paris, the Museum of Natural History and American Craft Museum, New York City. Mr. Johnson entered the Naval Reserve as an ensign trained in anti-submarine warfare and was a veteran of World War II, assigned to a ship operating in the Mediterranean. He saw action at Angio beachhead and the invasion of Southern France. Later, he was assigned to the Pacific and Philippines campaigns. His ship was in the fleet that carried MacArthur to Tokyo Bay. By the end of the war he was commanding officer of a patrol craft escort and a crew of 100 seamen and officers.
He graduated with a double major in botany and art, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of South Dakota.
Mr. Johnson studied at Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and the Museum of Fine Arts in Dallas, where he was also an adjunct in the art department of Southern Methodist University. He later studied and taught at New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred, N.Y., where he was a graduate teaching fellow.
Son of the late Dr. Edwin Anthony and Katherine Bacon Johnson, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ilse Rothmer Johnson; two sons, Christopher of Baltimore, and Nathan of Wellfleet; a daughter, Rebecca Johnson of Bonneville, Calif.; and a brother, Robert and his family of College Park, Md.
Funeral and burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, North Attleboro.
Gertrude M. Elder

TRENTON -- Gertrude M. Elder, 69, died Monday at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital.
Born in Edward, Ala., she lived in Trenton since 1952.
She was a presser with Mercer Coat Co. many years.
Mrs. Elder was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She was educated in Edward public schools and attended Henry County High School.
Daughter of the late Monroe and Lessie M. Glanton, she is survived by her husband, Edward Elder; a son, Charles Horne Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Carter; and a stepdaughter, Antoinette Stokes, all of Trenton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Eula and John Belser of Madison, Ohio, and Minnie and Wallace Culver of Abbeville, Ala.; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Barbara Glanton of Ewing; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Friendship Baptist Church, 111 Perry St., with the Rev. Willie J. Sanders, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until service Monday at the church.
Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service.
Dylan McCleary Davis

EWING -- Dylan McCleary Davis, infant son of Bradley and Kelli Murphy-Davis, died Thursday at St. Peter's Medical Center, New Brunswick.
Grandson of the late James E. Murphy, in addition to his parents, he is survived by a twin brother, Donovan M.; paternal grandparents, Larry and Connie Davis of Concord, N.C.; his maternal grandmother, Eileen Murphy of Pennington; and other relatives.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated noon today at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrence.
Private burial will be in Ewing Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cleft Palate Foundation, 1829 E. Franklin St., Suite 1022, Chapel Hill, N.C. 27514, which will go to further research of Cleft Palate to benefit his cousin Sean O'Donnell.

Jane Federkeil Case

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Jane Federkeil Case, 77, died Oct. 20.
Born in Langhorne, Pa., she was a longtime area resident before moving to St. Petersburg in 1991.
She was the official scorekeeper and public address announcer for the Kids and Kubs of the Three-Quarter Century Softball Club, having been part of a nationally known club of men older than 75 for about a decade.
Daughter of the late Harry and Edna Praeger Federkeil and wife of the late Whitfield Case, she is survived by two sisters, Ila Federkeil of Bensalem, Pa., and Ethel Probet of Chambersburg, Pa.; two stepchildren, Carolyn Nicolai of Trenton and Constance Rodriguez of Westport, Conn.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside service will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, Huntingdon Valley, at the family's convenience.
Arrangements are by National Cremation Society.
Henry Boyd

LAWRENCE -- Henry Boyd, 93, of Lawrenceville,died Thursday at his daughter's home.
Born in Cranbury, he was a longtime Trenton area resident.
He retired from the state as a senior maintenance man and previously worked for Trenton Pottery.
Son of the late Harry and Mamie Boyd, husband of the late Mabel Jolly Boyd, brother of the late Thomas and father-in-law of the late John K. Holsneck Sr., he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Henry A. and Ida Boyd of Whiting and Ronald and Barbara Boyd of Shamong Township; a daughter, Christine Holsneck of Lawrenceville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Saul Colonial Home.

FLORENCE -- Mary T. Arnold, 79, died Friday at home.
Born in Vojchice, Czechoslovakia, she lived in Roebling 71 years.
She retired from Burlington Dress Factory after 25 years as a seamstress.
She was a member of Holy Assumption Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society, an honorary member of Holy Assumption School PTA, and a former member of Holy Assumption catering committee, Florence Township Chapter of Deborah and Roebling Historical Society.
Wife of the late Oren Arnold and grandmother of the late Jeffrey M. Warner, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Carmie Arnold of Ewing; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Fred Warner of Roebling and Mary Ann and John Raimondi of Hamilton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elizabeth Haluska and Anne and Matthew Lukach, all of Roebling; five grandchildren, Tamara Kortman, Christopher and Michael Raimondi, Stephen and Chelsea Arnold; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Tuesday from Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, 1115 Hornberger Ave.
Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. at Holy Assumption Catholic Church, 1290 Hornberger Ave.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Gino F. Ammirata

HAMILTON -- Gino F. Ammirata, 77, died Friday at home.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
He retired in 1990 after 10 years with the state Department of Transportation, Parkway Avenue offices.
Mr. Ammirata was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Atlantic aboard the USS Sheepscott (AOG-24).
He was a member of the Marionette Square Dance Troupe and Hamilton Hospital Walking Club. He enjoyed bowling.
Son of the late Ferdinando and Maria Valentino Ammirata, husband of the late Sara Bruno Ammirata and brother of the late Mildred Pazdan, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gene F. and Celeste M. Ammirata of Hamilton; two grandchildren, Renee and Eric Ammirata; a nephew, Anthony Pazdan and his wife Carol; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Winowicz Funeral Home, Adeline and Beatty streets, Trenton, with clergy from St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church officiating.
Burial will be in the Veteran's Field of Honor Mausoleum, Greenwood Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 11:30 a.m. until service Monday at the funeral home.
