MARY BENNETT, 91, of Freehold Township died Nov. 28, 2002 at home. Born in the Herbertsville section of Brick Township, she resided there and in Glendola prior to moving to Freehold Township more than 70 years ago. She was a lunchroom attendant at Freehold Township Schools from 1960-82. Prior to that, she worked at A. and M. Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold, in the 1920s and ‘30s. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Freehold. She was a 7th Degree member of Monmouth Grange No. 92. She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Bennett in 1982; and a son, George H. Bennett in 1981. She is survived by her son, Floyd W. Bennett at home; her sister, Jennie Gifford of Herbertsville; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.

SALVATORE S. GENTILE, 82, of Oceanport died Nov. 12, 2002 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in New York City, he resided in Long Branch before moving to Oceanport 45 years ago. Mr. Gentile was the vault manager at Bank of New York, New York City, for 20 years, retiring 20 years ago. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach. He served with the U.S. Army. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 335, and a member of the Old Guard, both Long Branch. He was very active in local activities and received the Oceanport Borough Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, and the Monmouth County Park System Achievement Award for Voluntary Service in 1992. Active in senior activities, he was past president of the Oceanport Seniors and was named Man of the Year by the Monmouth County Senior Citizens Council. He was also appointed to the advisory council of the Monmouth County Office on Aging by the Monmouth County Freeholders. He was instrumental in forming Oceanport’s library and served as the library association’s vice president. Mr. Gentile was predeceased by his wife, Rose Gioscia Gentile, in 1986. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Angela and Kevin Coyle, and Virginia Whitfill, all of Brick; and one granddaughter. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at the Church of the Precious Blood, followed by interment at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Memorial donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 493, Long Branch 07740. Arrangements were handled by Damiano Funeral Home, Long Branch.

DANIEL ALEXANDER RUPPERT, 42, of Montclair, formerly of Brick, died Nov. 10, 2002 in Brick Hospital. Born in Jersey City, he lived in Union City and Brick before moving to Montclair. He was a stockbroker for the New York Mercantile Exchange for 16 years. He was a member of St. Dominic Church, Brick. He graduated from Brick Township High School, where he played football and ran track. He also graduated from Montclair State with an M.B.A., and was a member of the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity. He boxed for the Police Athletic League. He was predeceased by his father, Gilbert Alexander Ruppert in 2001. Surviving are his mother, Mary Ruppert, and a brother, John Ruppert, both of Brick. Colonial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARJORIE "MARGIE" SCHREIBER, 86, of Brick, died Nov. 10, 2002 in Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick. Born in Paterson, she lived in Newark before moving to Brick 39 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, William, in 1971. Surviving are a daughter, Brendalee Schreiber of Brick; and two granddaughters. Services were held at Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Interment was in Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

ROSANNA FRANCES McNEIL YOUNG, 80, of Brick died Nov. 10 in Brick Hospital. Born and raised in Jersey City, she moved to Brick 28 years ago. She worked for Western Electric, Kearny, for 44 years retiring in 1984. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Jersey City. Surviving are a sister, Kathleen A. Barry, and a niece, Kathleen F. Barry, both of Brick. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements.

PHILIP J. "THE GENERAL" CARROLL JR., 59, of Brick died Nov. 6, 2002 at Brick Hospital. Born in Elizabeth, he lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Brick 25 years ago. He was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 30 years, retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the IBEW Local 102, a past member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was a communicant of Epiphany Church, Brick. Surviving are his mother, Ann M. Carroll of Brick; three daughters, Renee Shipes of Jensen Beach, Fla., Dayle Neuner of Folsom, La., and Megan Carroll of Cocoa, Fla.; three sons, Philip J. III, Kyle and Sean, all of Cocoa; and six grandchildren. Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass was offered at Epiphany Church, Brick. Interment was in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.

WILLIAM C. KENNARD, 87, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Dec. 4, 2002 at home. Born in New York City, Mr. Kennard had lived in Freehold from 1964 until his move to Florida last year. Mr. Kennard was an accountant for Foodarama Supermarkets, Freehold, for 25 years before retiring nine years ago. Prior to that, he was employed by U.S. Steel, New York City, for 40 years. Mr. Kennard was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a former secretary and treasurer for the ShopRite Bowling League. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane, in 1991. Surviving are three sons, William C. Jr. and Richard R., both of Largo, Fla., and John E. of Brick Township. Interment took place at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10021.
