EDWARD J. MURPHY, 83, of Brick died Nov. 15, 2002 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Newark, he lived in Roselle before moving to Brick 18 years ago. He worked as a field representative and investigator for the N.J. Department of Labor, Wage and Hours Compliance Division, before retiring in 1989. He served as mayor of Roselle and was a councilman there for 11 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as tech sergeant in the China-Burma-India theater of operations, earning the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Unit Citation, and the Republic of China Victory Medal. He was a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars 5383 Pfc. A.J. Baione Post, Newark, and a charter member of the St. Joseph Council Knights of Columbus, Roselle. He was also a member of American Legion Post 346 and Knights of Columbus Council 836, both of Brick; and the Manasquan Elks Lodge 2534; and past president of VitaVar Independent Union, Newark. He was a member of the Roselle Fire Department for 28 years, and a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association, and a life member of FMBA Local 35. He was also a member of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Lefferson Murphy, in 1989; and three sisters, Catherine Healey, Marie DuBois and Florence Koot. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward W. Murphy of Brick, and James J. and Kathleen Murphy of Cranford; two daughters and a son-in-law, Virginia S. Murphy of Spring Lake Heights, and Kathleen and Richard Siderko of Brielle; and four grandchildren. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass was offered at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Interment was in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1250 Broadway, Suite 2002, New York, NY 10001.

HANNAH WITTMER, 92, of Brick died Nov. 6, 2002 in Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Brick. Born in Harrison, she was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman Wittmer in 1984. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Vale of Brick; and two grandchildren. Cremation Service of Ocean, Brick, was in charge of arrangements.

JOHN STEPHEN DiMAIO, 35, of Brick died Nov. 7, 2002 in Community Medical Center, Toms River. Born in Point Pleasant, he lived in the Shore area all his life. He was an independent carpet installer. Surviving are two brothers, Alan of Lakewood, and Anthony of Brick; three sisters, Sharon Coryell, Andrea DiMaio, both of Brick, and Denise DiMaio of Toms River; his former wife, Maria DiMaio of Toms River; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River, was in charge of arrangements. A Mass was offered at St. Joseph Church, Toms River.

LINDA S. CICCARELLI GIORDANO, 40, of Brick died Nov. 8, 2002 in Brick Hospital. Born in Newark, she lived in Nutley before moving to Brick 16 years ago. She worked as an office manager at Atlantic Coast Gastroenterology for 13 years. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Robert Giordano. Surviving are her husband of 22 years, Robert; her parents, Joseph and Carmela Basile Ciccarelli; a daughter, Christina Lynn; a son, Frank Thomas; a sister, Loraine Gammaro; a mother-in-law, Josephine Giordano; a sister-in-law, Karen Giordano; a brother-in-law, Michael Giordano; and three nieces and nephews. Biondi Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. A Mass was offered at Holy Family Church, Nutley. Interment was in Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Essex Unit, 767 N. Field Ave., West Orange, NJ 07052.

JOHN ALEX BROSKEY, 79, of Brick died Nov. 9, 2002 at home. Born in Middleport, Pa., he lived in Cranford before moving to Brick in 1970. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1946. He worked in Venezuela from 1946-1950, constructing oil refineries and powerhouses. From 1952-1971, he was the owner and operator of Al’s Atlantic Service Station, Elizabeth. From 1972 until his retirement in 1988, he was a welder for Laurelton Welding Company in Point Pleasant Beach. He was a member of the Masonic Loyalty Lodge 33/272 F&AM in Clark. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lillian E. Fraatz Broskey; a son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Judith of Brick; three daughters and a son-in-law, Diane Broskey and her companion, Charles Woolley of Howell, Joyce and Ray Erickson III of Brick, and Lillian Hammon of Barnegat; a brother, John of Pleasantville; a brother-in-law, Bobby Schaeffer of Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Jean Fraatz of Toms River, and Frances Neveras of Cream Ridge, Upper Freehold; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Colonial Funeral Home, Brick. Interment was in Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown.

MARY McFARLANE, 102, of Brick, died Dec. 3, 2002 in Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Perth Amboy. She lived in Staten Island, N.Y., and Edgewater, Fla., before moving to Brick Township 17 years ago. She was a member of Deborah, Heritage and Women’s Clubs of Leisure Village East. She was predeceased by a sister, Julia Allen. Surviving are a sister, Helen Campbell of Brick; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass was offered at Holy Family Church. Interment was in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Staten Island.

MICHAEL J. LIPARI, 78, of Lakewood, formerly of Brick, died Dec. 8, 2002 in Monmouth Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Jersey City, he lived there and in Brick for 10 years before moving to Lakewood four years ago. He was a motorman for the Pennsylvania Railroad for 25 years, retiring 20 years ago. He was a member of the Italian American Club in the Original Leisure Village in Lakewood. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marines. He was predeceased by his second wife, Ann Lipari. Surviving are his first wife, Emily Brady of Hazlet; a son, John Lipari of Toms River; a daughter, Michele Lipari of Hazlet; two sisters, Gloria of Bogota and Mildred of California; and one granddaughter.
