GEORGE J. McCARRON, 83, of South Amboy died Nov. 29, 2002 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Born in Jersey City, he resided in South Amboy the past 32 years. He was a die maker at J & P B Myers, Moonachie, for 55 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of technical sergeant. He also served in the southwest Pacific theatre, the New Guinea campaign and southern Philippines campaign. He was awarded the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He was predeceased by a sister, Loretta Behninger; his step-brother, Joseph Hagen; and a son-in-law, Edward F. Dolan. He is survived by his wife of 60 yeas, Margaret Rand McCarron of South Amboy; five sons and four daughters-in-law, George McCarron of Long Branch; Robert and Linda McCarron of West Allenhurst; William and Ann McCarron of the Dayton section of South Brunswick; Peter and Carol McCarron of Howell; and Mark and Joanne McCarron of Centerville, Va.; two daughters, Regina Dolan of Spring, Texas, and Bernadette McCarron of Falls Church, Va.; his sister, Anna Wanagiel of Jersey City; and eight grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy.
MARYANN E. YETMAN, 77, of Farmingdale died Nov. 23, 2002 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. She was born in Farmingdale and was a lifelong resident. She was a public school teacher for Howell Township, Wall Township and Millstone Township for more than 50 years, during which time she was also a principal in the Seaside Park school system. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Molly Pitcher Chapter No. 98, Freehold. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward Hoxie Yetman Sr. and Laura T. Megill Yetman; two brothers, Edward Hoxie Jr. and Frederick Benjamin; and a sister Theressia Marie Yetman. Surviving are two sisters, Sarah Yetman Nelson of Farmingdale, and Amelia Yetman of Wall Township; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. A graveside funeral service was offered at Evergreen Cemetery, Adelphia Road, Farmingdale.
ELEANORE MARIE SCHMITT IGLAY, 84, of Brick, died Nov. 20, 2002 at Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick. Born and raised in Newark, she lived in Union before moving to Brick in 1979. Mrs. Iglay was a homemaker and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford R. Iglay, and a brother, Raymond Schmitt. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bruce and Brigitte Iglay of Delaware, and Kenneth Iglay of Florida; and two grandchildren. Services were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick. Interment was private.
GRACE M. FAHERTY CHAHALIS, 60, of Brick, died Nov. 21, 2002 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune. Born and raised in Washington Heights, N.Y., she moved to the shore in 1972, residing in Jackson for 23 years and then moving to Brick. Mrs. Chahalis was a bookkeeper for the Armour S. Hulsart Co., Wall. A devoted wife and mother, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Jeopardy. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary McCormack Faherty. Mrs. Chahalis is survived by her husband of 37 years, James Chahalis; a son, James Chahalis of Old Bridge; two daughters, Donna Celli of Florham Park and Debby Hulsart of Brielle; a brother, Martin Faherty of Garrison, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Rose Conlin of Mahopac, N.Y.; and eight grandchildren. Services were held at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown. JEAN E. WENDEL, 85, of Brick, died Nov. 21, 2002 at home. Born in New York City, she had resided in Ridgefield Park and Riverdale before moving to Brick in 1980. She was a graduate of Ridgefield Park High School, class of 1935. Mrs. Wendel was an assistant vice president of the Central Bergen Bank, New Milford, for 40 years, retiring in 1979. She was an active member of the Alumni Association of the Lions Head North community of Brick. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl, in 2001. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lilla McLeod of Lake Wales, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. A private cremation was held under the arrangements of Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, Toms River.
THOMAS W. SNELGROVE, 71, of Brick died Nov. 24, 2002 in Meridian Hospice, Brick. Born in Mt. Ephraim, he lived in Beachwood before moving to Brick 22 years ago. He was employed as a physics teacher for more than 30 years with the Southern Regional School District in Manahawkin. He was the former owner of the Sand Health Spa, Toms River, the founder of the "Head Start" Program in Ocean County, the founder of the Surfbreakers Weight Lifting Club of Beachwood, and for many years volunteered his time teaching weight lifting and photography to children of the area. He was also a very active volunteer at several prisons, teaching young men weight lifting and fitness. He was a parishioner of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, Brick, and a longtime member of Jack LaLanne’s Health Spa, Brick. Surviving are his wife Mary Ann Smith Snelgrove; two daughters and a son-in-law, Stacie M. Snelgrove of Brick, and Cindy and Brian Bell of Egg Harbor Township; two sons and daughters-in-law, Erik and Susan Beltran, and David and Jennifer Beltran, all of Brick; a sister, Eileen Hrich of Las Vegas, Nev.; and five grandchildren. A Mass was offered at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. Interment was private. Donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
WILLIAM C. CLANCY, 79, of Brick died Nov. 25, 2002 in Geraldine Thompson Nursing Home, Wall. Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Long Island before moving to Brick 18 years ago. He was a professor of criminal justice and former registrar and director of admissions at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, New York City, for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He was a police lieutenant with the New York City Police Department, retiring in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II. He was a communicant of St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. Surviving are his wife, Grace McArdle Clancy; three sons, Brian of Spring Valley, New York, William of Virginia, and Thomas of Sayreville; two daughters, Marie Hamilton of St. Charles, Ill., and Grace Fodera of Flushing, N.Y.; a sister, Marie Kushy of South Carolina; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Mass was offered at St. Dominic’s Church, Brick. Interment was in St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, N.Y. Arrangements were under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.
