Rhoda E. Holmes died Monday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 70.
She was born in Newark and lived in the Somerset section of Franklin.
She was a retired assembly worker for Bristol-Myers Squibb, New Brunswick.
She attended Faith Hope Church, New Brunswick.
Surviving are her husband, Edward; a son, Edward Jr.; eight grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Whigham Funeral Home, 580 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., Newark. Burial will be at Fairmont Cemetery, Newark.
FLOYD EVANS SR., AGE 81, FRANKLIN

Floyd E. "Pappy" Evans Sr. died yesterday at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. He was 81.
He was born in Wimmers, Pa., and lived in the Whitehouse Station section of Readington before moving to the East Millstone section of Franklin 56 years ago.
He retired in 1979 as a chief chemical operator for American Cyanamid Corp., Bound Brook, where he worked for 38 years.
He was an elder and deacon at the Dutch Reformed Church (now Calvary Baptist Church), East Millstone.
He was a member of the Millstone Valley Fire Department since 1959 and a member of the East Millstone First Aid Squad.
He was a member of the Cedar Hill Cemetery Association, where he was in charge of burials for 25 years.
His wife, the former Allegra A. Biefeldt, died in 1983. A brother, Fred Willard, also is deceased.
Surviving are a son, Floyd W. of East Millstone; a brother, Raymond of Wimmers; three sisters, Rhea Beauman of Branchburg, Mary Standish of the Bradley Gardens section of Bridgewater and Janet Biefeldt of East Millstone; two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday from the Fucillo and Warren Funeral Home, 205 S. Main Street, Manville, followed by an 11 a.m. service at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery, East Millstone.

HELEN CHERRIS, AGE 82, ROCKY HILL

Helen Skurka Cherris died Tuesday at home. She was 82.
She was born in Perth Amboy and lived there before moving to Rocky Hill 37 years ago.
She retired in 1980 after 40 years as a beautician and owner of La Mode Hairdressers, Woodbridge.
She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption, Perth Amboy.
She was a member of the Franklin Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Charles, died in 1994. A son, Charles A., died in 1969, and a daughter, Carol, died in 1943. A brother, Walter Skurka, and a sister, Mary Thomas, also are deceased.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Sherry of Rocky Hill; five grandchildren, Kathryn, Kevin and Charles Cherris and Christine and Catherine Colon, and two great-grandchildren, Danny and Victoria Colon.
Services will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday from Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords section of Woodbridge, followed by a 10 a.m. divine liturgy at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption. Burial will be at Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Hopelawn section of Woodbridge. A Parastas service will be 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research, or the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption, 684 Alta Vista Place, Perth Amboy.
SALVATORE "BUTCH" CANASTRA, AGE 82, FRANKLIN

Salvatore "Butch" Canastra died Tuesday at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. He was 82.
He was born in St. Benedict, Pa., and lived in East Brunswick and North Brunswick before moving to the Somerset section of Franklin in 1995.
He retired in 1977 after 25 years as a water-treatment operator for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, Cranbury.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, New Brunswick.
He was a Army veteran of World War II.
He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 10, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Clark-Moetz Post 2319, both Milltown.
He also was a member of the East Brunswick Senior Citizens.
His wife of 58 years, the former Josephine LaSala, died Nov. 28.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth of North Brunswick and Joseph of Atlanta; two brothers, Carmen of Monroe and Joseph Campagna of the Dayton section of South Brunswick; two sisters, Martha Gibbs of North Brunswick and Ruth Parillo of New Brunswick; two grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be 9:15 a.m. Friday from the Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart R.C. Church. Entombment will be at Franklin Memorial Park Mausoleum, North Brunswick.
AUDREY C. EBERT, AGE 66, GREEN BROOK

Audrey Carolyn Ebert died yesterday at home. She was 66.
She was born in Hempstead, N.Y., and had lived in Union, East Brunswick and Florida before moving to Green Brook in 1994.
She retired in 1989 after more than 20 years as a human-resource manager for AT&T Corp. in Jacksonville, Fla.
She is survived by a son, Lloyd Rojewski of Roswell, Ga.; three daughters, Jacki Baird, Michele L. Nagy and Ellen S. Blake, all of Green Brook, and six grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Higgins Home for Funerals, 752 Mountain Blvd., Watchung. Burial will be private.

GEORGE J. OLLER, AGE 74, FRANKLIN

George J. Oller died Monday at The Medical Center at Princeton. He was 74.
He was born in Long Branch and lived in the Somerset section of Franklin.
He worked as a chemist at Merck & Co. in Rahway for 23 years. He also had worked for Whitehall Labs in Hammonton and retired in 1987.
He received a bachelor's degree from Seton Hall University and attended Stevens Institute in Hoboken.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He worked as a volunteer with the Office on Aging in Somerset County, where he helped seniors fill out their income-tax forms.
Surviving are his wife, Midori I., and a brother, Walter J. of Georgetown, Conn.
A Mass will be offered at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine of Canterbury R.C. Church, Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. Burial will be in Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick. Arrangements are by the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick.

JULIAN M. BETZA, AGE 82, MILLSTONE

Julian M. Betza died Monday at the Plateau Medical Center in Fayetteville, W.Va. He was 82.
He was born in New York City and lived in the Somerset section of Franklin, New Brunswick, Millstone and Florida before recently moving to Fayetteville.
He had been a distributor for Lance Corp. in North Brunswick.
He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Millstone.
Surviving are his wife, the former Sylvia Dunbar; two sons, Phillip of the Toms River section of Dover Township and William of High Bridge; a daughter, Ann Johnston of Neshanic; a stepson, James Russso of Germany; two stepdaughters, Jacqueline Mueller of Milltown and Patricia Tygrett of Fayetteville; two sisters, Marie Petty of the Rossmoor community of Monroe and Emily Kurdonik of Union; 18 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Boylan Funeral Home, 188 Easton Ave., New Brunswick, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph's R.C. Church. Burial will be in Bound Brook Cemetery, Bound Brook.
