Kenneth W. Hanlon, 75
Kenneth W. Hanlon, 75, of Watchung died on Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Jersey City and Mountainside before moving to Watchung 29 years ago. Mr. Hanlon had been an executive at L.E. Carpenter, a division of Dayco, in Wharton for 26 years before retiring in 1985. He served in the United States Army during World War II, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from New York University. Mr. Hanlon was a master mason at Hoboken Lodge No. 35, a member of St. Mary?s Stony Hill Roman Catholic Church in Watchung, the national secretary for the 11th Armored Division Association and founder of its New Jersey chapter, and a past member of the Watchung Optimist Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Helene Diserens Hanlon, in 1996. Surviving are a son, Wayne Hanlon of Watchung and a grandchild. William McJames, 77
Merck Retiree; Helped Liberate Philippine Islands Mary J. Geremia, 84, Rosarian; Active in Leisure Knoll Programs William C. McJames, 77, of Westfield died on Thursday, March 12, 1998, at home. Born in Brooklyn, he had lived in South Orange before moving to Westfield in 1959. Mr. McJames graduated from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 1943 with a degree in chemical engineering. He had been a chemical engineer for Merck and Company in Rahway for 35 years prior to retiring in 1985. Mr. McJames served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy aboard the USS Boston in the Asiatic Pacific, and participated in the liberation of the Philippine Islands. Surviving are two sons, Bill McJames and Scott McJames; a sister, Helen Hill, and five grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, March 17, in The Presbyterian Church in Westfield. Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.

Marie C. Megless, 86, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, March 14, 1998, in the Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains. Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Roselle Park for 50 years before moving to Scotch Plains three years ago. Mrs. Megless was a member of the Rosary Society of the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption, the St. Anne?s and the St. Theresa?s Clubs of St. Adalbert?s Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth and the Senior Citizens of Roselle Park and Scotch Plains. Surviving are two daughters, Theresa A. Gatto and Patricia A. Megless. A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, March 18, in the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park, following the funeral from the Mastapeter Suburban in Roselle Park.

Josephine Internicola, 66, of Woodbridge, formerly of Scotch Plains, died on Saturday, March 14, 1998, at home. Born in Manhattan, she had lived in Long Island and Scotch Plains before moving to Woodbridge in 1983. Surviving are her husband, Salvatore Internicola; a son, Anthony Internicola; a daughter, Phyllis Internicola; a brother, Richard Vella, and two grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, March 18, in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains. Arrangements were under the direction of the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.

Marion Kurtz of Mountainside died on Wednesday, March 11, 1998, in the Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, Florida. Born in Austria, she had lived in Springfield before moving to Mountainside a year ago. Mrs. Kurtz was a member of Hadassah and the Senior League of Temple Beth Ahm of Springfield Surviving are a daughter, Francine Karl; a son, Jerrold Kurtz; a brother, Sydney Heller; a sister, Shirley Schorr; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 13, in the Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

John J. Jankowski, 83, Retired Mechanic, World War Veteran, Awarded Bronze Star John J. Jankowski, 83, of Fanwood died on Monday, March 16, 1998, at home. Born in Tresckow, Pennsylvania, Mr. Jankowski had lived in Jersey City before moving to Fanwood in 1961. He had been a maintenance machinist for the Crucible Steel Company of America in Harrison for 31 years, retiring in 1973. Mr. Jankowski was a United States Army veteran of World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Catholic Church in Plainfield and American Legion Post No. 209 in Scotch Plains. He was predeceased by his wife, Clara Jankowski, in 1989. Surviving are a brother, Joseph J. Jankowski of Newport Richie, Florida, and two sisters, Frances Kostecki of Bayside, New York and Florence Bartoszek of Jersey City. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, March 19, at 10 a.m. from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, followed by a Mass at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church on West 7th Street in Plainfield at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the individual?s choice.

She was also a member of Deborah, the Theater, the Travel Club and the Knollaires, all of Leisure Knoll in Manchester Township. Also surviving are another son, Robert A. Geremia; a sister, Lillian Garry; a brother, Charles Sabatino, and three grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was offered on Thursday, March 12, in St. John?s Church. Arrangements were handled by the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Lakehurst.
