William E. Quadenfield, 78, of Westfield died on Tuesday, March 10, 1998, in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Roselle, he had lived there prior to moving to Westfield in 1956. Mr. Quadenfield had been an accountant for Exxon Oil Company in New York for many years before retiring in 1964. Surviving is his wife, Ruth Quadenfield. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 14, in the Dooley Funeral Home, 218 North Avenue in Cranford.

David L. King, 57
David L. King, 57, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, March 12, 1998, at home. Born in Cranford, he had lived in Roselle before moving to Scotch Plains in 1976. Mr. King was a 1972 graduate of the New York Institute of Technology in New York City. He was a senior systems consulting engineer for the IBM Corporation in New York and New Jersey for 30 years. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1959 to 1965. Mr. King was a trustee and usher at St. Mark?s African Methodist Episcopal Church in Cranford, where he was also a member of the Men?s Club and Men?s Chorus. Surviving are three brothers, Robert H. King, Charles C. King and Levi King, Jr. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 17, in St. Mark?s Church. Arrangements were handled by the G.G. Woody Funeral Home in Roselle.

Josephine Ford Wheeler of Foulk Manor North in Wilmington, Del., died on Tuesday, December 26, 2000, in the home of her daughter, Catherine Wheeler Bowen, in Rockland, Del. A native of Charleston, Mrs. Wheeler, who was born in 1911, had lived in Cleveland, Ohio, in Plainfield and in Westfield before returning to Charleston in 1969. She relocated to Wilmington in 1977 and moved to Foulk Manor North in early 2000. She attended Sullins College in Bristol, Va., and had worked in Charleston prior to her marriage to William R. Wheeler in 1938. Later, Mrs. Wheeler worked for the Wardlaw Country Day School in Plainfield. She was predeceased by her husband in 1963. Surviving, in addition to her daughter, is a brother, V. H. Ford, Jr. of Port Arthur, Tex. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Charleston. Arrangements were handled by the Chandler Funeral Home in Wilmington. Margaret Johansen, 80
Margaret B. Johansen, 80, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, December 26, 2000, at home. Born in Plainfield, she resided in Scotch Plains for 48 years. Mrs. Johansen was a member of the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield and a former member of the Monday Afternoon Club in Plainfield. Surviving are her husband, Jack C. Johansen; a daughter, Joyce Dolan of Scotch Plains; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Friday, December 29, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.

Helen F. Slater, 88
Helen F. Slater, 88, of Jim Thorpe, Pa., died on Tuesday, December 26, 2000, in the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Leighton, Pa. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Jim Thorpe 12 years ago. Mrs. Slater had been a clerical worker in New Jersey for many years before retiring. Surviving are a son, Richard Slater; a daughter, Joan Schasny; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, January 2, in the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Westfield. The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home Inc. in Jim Thorpe was in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph Poliseo, Sr., 83
Joseph F. Poliseo, Sr., 83, of Valrico, Fla., died on Thursday, December 21, 2000 in Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon, Fla. Born in Newark, he had lived in Scotch Plains before relocating to Valrico in 1997. Mr. Poliseo had been a home builder in New Jersey for many years before retiring. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of a New Jersey post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Surviving are his wife, Anna Poliseo; a daughter, Carol Massa; a son, Joseph Poliseo, and four grandchildren. Services have been held.

Sumpter L. Capers, 77
Sumpter L. Capers, 77, of Union died on Sunday, December 24, at home. Born in Vauxhall, he had lived in Union for more than 50 years. Mr. Capers had been in the maintenance business, Caper's Cleaning Service, for 30 years. He was also a school crossing guard for the Union Board of Education for 15 years. He was a member of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Vauxhall for 15 years. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth H. Capers; two sons, Frederick Capers of Mapleshade and Donell Capers of Vauxhall; four sisters, Rebecca Palmer of Fanwood, Mary Looney of Vauxhall, Ella Jones of East Orange and Martha Capers of Newark; three brothers, Paul Capers of Vauxhall, Julius Capers of Newark and Maye Capers of Charlotte, N.C., and a grandchild. Services were held on Saturday, December 30, at the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Arrangements were handled by the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.
