Herman A. Roos, 74, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, May 6, at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Union, he had lived there before relocating to Scotch Plains 50 years ago. Mr. Roos had been employed as a tool and die maker with Reliable Tool Company in Irvington for 25 years. He retired in 1988. He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Jeanne Gerndt Roos, and a brother, Robert H. Roos of Linden. Private arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Dorothy James, 85
Dorothy Laffey James, 85, of Mountainside died on Sunday, May 6, at home. Born in Newark, she had lived in Westfield and Short Hills before moving to Mountainside two years ago. Mrs. James attended Pine Manor College in Chestnut Hill, Mass. She was a volunteer with New Eyes for the Needy in Millburn for many years. She was predeceased by a brother, Edwin W. Laffey. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Nathan W. James; a son, John W. James of Madison, Conn., and four grandchildren. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, May 9, in Smith and Smith (Suburban) in Springfield. Interment was at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Millburn. Elizabeth C. Crookall, 86, Was Member Of Women's Clubs and Other Groups
Elizabeth C. Crookall, 86, of Brandon, Fla., died on Wednesday, January 24, in Brandon Memorial Hospital in Brandon. Born in Harrison, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Florida 20 years ago. Mrs. Crookall was a member of the Westfield Women's Club, as well as the Women's Club of Arlington, the Junior X Club, the Red Cross and the Roosevelt School Parent Teacher Association, all of Kearny. Surviving are her husband, Henry R. Crookall; two daughters, Jan Clark and Susan Crookall, and two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. this Sunday, May 20, in the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington in Kearny. Arrangements are being handled by the Wilfred Armitage Funeral Home of Kearny.

Philip DiMauro, 88
Philip DiMauro, 88, of Toms River died on Monday, May 7, at home. Born in Italy, he had lived in Newark and Scotch Plains before moving to Toms River 18 years ago. Mr. DiMauro had been employed as a custodian with the Union County Vocational Technical Institute in Scotch Plains for 13 years before retiring in 1981. Prior to that, he had owned a barber shop in Irvington. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lucy Santaniello DiMauro; two sons, Joseph DiMauro and Philip DiMauro; three daughters, Marie Olsen, Concetta Dempsey and Ann McGriff; two sisters, Elizabeth Cicalease and Marie Bagnato; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A Mass was offered on Friday, May 11, at St. Justin Church in Toms River, following the funeral from the Mastapeter Funeral Home in Bayville. Interment took place at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Orange.

Erna Fuhrman, 91
Erna Fuhrman, 91, of Raritan Township died on Monday, May 7, in the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township. Born in Germany, she had lived in Irvington, Union and Scotch Plains before relocating to Raritan Township. Mrs. Fuhrman had been a cafeteria manager at the Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company in Newark for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 22 in Hamilton Square for 39 years. Surviving are a daughter, M. Louise Van Assen; a sister, Leisel Kaelber; a brother, Karl Voelker; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 12, in the Holcombe-Fischer Funeral Home in Flemington. Interment took place at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.

Floyd M. Porter, 78
Floyd M. Porter, 78, of Hardyston Township died on Friday, May 4, in Indian River Memorial Hospital in Vero Beach, Fla. Born in Passaic, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Hardyston 50 years ago. Mr. Porter had been a manufacturing representative with the F.M. Porter Company in Franklin for 20 years prior to retiring in 1991. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Jean Porter; three sons, Francis Porter, Mark Porter and Jeffrey Porter; two daughters, Elizabeth Porter-Steisel and Margaret Mary Porter; a sister, Claire Amendola; a stepbrother, Dennis Porter, and 10 grandchildren. A Mass was offered on Saturday, May 12, in St. John Vianney Church in Stockholm, following the funeral from the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home in Franklin.

Margaret Vosseler, 81
Margaret C. Panzarino Vosseler, 81, a lifelong resident of Elizabeth, died on Monday, May 7, at home. Mrs. Vosseler, a homemaker, was Past President and Treasurer of the AM Vets Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 25 and a Past President of the Mother's Club of Bender Memorial Academy, both of Elizabeth. Surviving are her husband of 60 years, George T. Vosseler; two sons, Thomas G. Vosseler of South Plainfield and Peter Vosseler of Fanwood; a brother, Anthony Panzarino of Roselle Park; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were held on Friday, May 11, at the Mastapeter Funeral Home in Roselle Park, followed by a Mass at St. Genevieve's Roman Catholic Church in Elizabeth. Interment took place at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center For Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, 07036.
