Jean L. Wiese, 77, of Brodheadsville, Pa., died on Friday, May 11, in St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa. Born in Rahway, she had lived in Fanwood before relocating to Brodheadsville. Surviving are three sons, David Wiese of Fanwood, John Wiese of Blairstown and Douglas Wiese of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Kathryn Elguicze of Somerset, Suzanne Seilus of Bridgewater and Patricia Freeman of Effort, Pa.; a sister, Eleanor Mathis of Lakewood, and 10 grandchildren. Memorial services were held on Sunday, May 20, at the Donald N. Gower Funeral Home in Gilbert, Pa. Interment will take place at a time to be arranged by the family. Eleanore F. Walker, 69
Eleanore F. Armann Walker, 69, of Scotch Plains died on Monday, May 14, in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in New York, she lived in Scotch Plains for 41 years. Mrs. Walker co-owned the Linden Pork Stores and Pan Am Provisions in Linden. She was a member of the Scotch Plains Junior Women's Club. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Dixie Walker; two daughters, Debra A. Walker and Patricia L. Staib, both of North Plainfield, and a grandchild. Services were held on Wednesday, May 16, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in North Plainfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Muhlenberg Foundation, in care of Intensive Care Unit, Park Avenue and Randolph Road, Plainfield 07060, or to the American Lung Association of New Jersey, 1600 Route 22, East, Union, 07083.

Carrie Anderson, 95
Carrie Anderson, 95, of Mountainside died on Saturday, May 12, in Manor Care of Mountainside. Born in Newark, she lived in Mountainside for 49 years. Mrs. Anderson had been a supervisor in the lamp department of General Electric in Newark for 38 years before retiring in 1962. She was a member of the Eastern Star Sharon Chapter 61 in Caldwell and the Foothill Club of Mountainside. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Anderson. Surviving is a sister, Beatrice Kellogg. Services were held on Wednesday, May 16, in the McCracken Funeral Home in Union.

Martin Herbst, 92, Managed Family Farm; Later Worked for Area Lumber Company
Martin Herbst, 92, of North Plainfield died on Sunday, May 13, at the McCutchen Friends Home in North Plainfield. Born in Bayonne on August 30, 1908, he moved to Scotch Plains with his family the following year. He later relocated to Basking Ridge and moved with his wife to the McCutchen Friends Home a month ago. After graduating from Plainfield High School, Mr. Herbst managed the family farm in Scotch Plains until 1953. He was later employed by the J.D. Loizeaux Lumber Company in Plainfield until his retirement in 1973. He was predeceased by two sisters, Frances and Elizabeth; two brothers, Charles and Fred; a half-sister, Anna, and four half-brothers, Adolph, John, Peter and George, and a grandson. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Irma Hansen Herbst; a daughter, Doris Herbst of Burlington, Vt.; a son, David Herbst of Tewksbury Township, and two grandchildren. At Mr. Herbst's request, there were no funeral services. Memorial donations may be made to the McCutchen Friends Home, 112 Linden Avenue, North Plainfield 07060. Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Todd David Bixler, 33, of Westfield died on Monday, May 14, at home. Born in Plainfield, he lived all of his life in Westfield. Mr. Bixler was a self-employed construction worker. Surviving are his parents, Robert A. Bixler, Sr. and Jean M. Messner Bixler; four brothers, Carter Bixler, Robert A. Bixler, Jr., Eric Bixler and Joel Bixler, and two sisters, Dana Bixler and Jill Bixler. Arrangements were under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield. Manuel J. Aranjo, 81
Manuel J. Aranjo, 81, of Mountainside died on Monday, May 14, in Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Framingham, Mass., he had lived in Irvington before moving to Mountainside in 1956. Mr. Aranjo had been a longshoreman with the International Longshoremen's Association for 20 years before retiring. He had previously worked for the American Can Company in Newark. Surviving are his wife, Marie DeRose Aranjo; a daughter, Maryjo Sperlazza; a son, Manuel Aranjo; a brother, Max Augusta, and five grandchildren. A Mass was offered on Thursday, May 17, at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside, following the funeral from the Haeberle & Barth Colonial Home in Union. Interment took place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Blanche Loeffler, 76
Blanche M. Langley Loeffler, 76, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, May 15, in Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown. Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Long Island before relocating to Scotch Plains. Mrs. Loeffler had been a secretary at K.M.V. Associates, an insurance company in Scotch Plains, before retiring in 1979. She was predeceased by her husband, William Loeffler, in 1975, and by a son, William Loeffler. Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth George, Barbara Morasso and Janice Keller; a sister, Audrey Lasher; a brother, Frank Langley, and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, May 19, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains. Interment took place at St. Gertrude's Cemetery in Colonia. Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.

Verna Lipford Luisi, 79, Was Director Of Arts and Crafts at Park and YMCA
Verna Lipford Luisi, 79, of Fanwood died on Tuesday, May 15, at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Trooper, Pa., she had lived in Somerville before relocating to Fanwood 46 years ago. Mrs. Luisi attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, studying in the Liberal Arts program. She was active in the Girl Scouts in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood area. Mrs. Luisi was also the Arts and Crafts Director at Forest Road Park in Fanwood, as well as for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, for many years. Surviving are her husband, T. Robert Luisi; a daughter, Amy E. Smeltzer of Scotch Plains, and a son, Robert T. Luisi of New Hope, Pa. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood. Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield. Dorothy Shoemaker, 88
Dorothy M. Shoemaker, 88, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, May 12, at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Springfield, the daughter of the late G. E. Eckermann and Mildred Allen Eckermann, she had lived in Millburn and Lakewood before moving to Scotch Plains in 1997. Mrs. Shoemaker was a homemaker and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert L. Shoemaker, in 1975, and by a daughter, Cynthia Webb, in 1994. Surviving are a daughter, Alberta Giacomara; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 19, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Plainfield. Interment took place at St. Stephen's Cemetery in Millburn.
