OBITUARIES FROM THE YEAR 2000:

Ernest L. Cline, Sr.
APOPKA, Fla. - Ernest L. Cline, Sr., 71, died April 23.
Born in East Orange, he lived in Allentown before moving to Apopka in 1984.
Mr. Cline retired from the state Department of Corrections after 25 years.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Son of the late Gertrude and Oscar Cline and brother of the late Ken Cline, he is survived by his wife of 47 years, Teresa; five sons and daughters-in-law, Ernest and Ellen of Hamilton, Jim and Lori of Stanley, N.C., Tom and Kim of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Terry and Mary of Warner-Robins Air Force Base, Ga., and Wayne and Karen of Burlington; a brother and sister-in-law, Ed and Pat of Ocala, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral was held in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Arrangements were by Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home, Apopka, Fla.

Joseph H. Horn, Sr.
WASHINGTON —- Joseph H. Horn, Sr., 80, died Saturday at home.
Born in Trenton, he lived in Robbinsville.
He retired as a truck driver from Mid-Jersey Trucking Industries.
Mr. Horn was an Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Teamster Local 701 and American Legion Post 39.
Son of the late Lawrence and Augusta Smith Horn, husband of the late June Fisher Horn, father of the late William L. Horn, and brother of the late Lawrence Horn, Dorothy Haiggs and Ellen Griffith, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph H. Jr. and Joan F. Horn of Chatsworth and Richard and Joan P. Horn of Roebling; three daughters, Judith Ann Horn of Florence, Sharon Lee Horn of Robbinsville and Bonnie Horn of East Windsor; and sister, Laura Novak of New Egypt; a brother, Charles Horn of Kissimmee, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral was held Wednesday at Hartmann Funeral Home, 2830 Nottingtham Way, Mercerville.
Burial was in Fountain Lawn Cemetery, Ewing.
Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurse Association of the Delaware Valley, P.O. Box 441, Trenton, N.J. 08603.

Edward S. Koczon
WRIGHTSTOWN —- Edward S. Koczon, 76, died Monday, May 1, at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
Born in Rahway, he was a longtime resident before moving to Wrightstown several years ago.
He was a salesman for STP Oil Co., Johnstown, Pa. He also worked for Quinn & Bowin, Rahway.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Koczon was a member of American Legion Post 5 of Rahway and Rahway Elks Lodge 1075.
He is survived by two sons, Andrew of Coronado, Calif., and Ronald of New Egypt; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 8:45 p.m. today at Corey & Corey Funeral Home, 259 Elm Ave., Rahway.
Private burial will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Calling hours will be 7 to 8:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Soophie Kowalsky Paoiez
NORTH HANOVER - Soophie Kowalsky Paoiez, 86, of Jacobstown, died Monday, May 1, at Virtua Health-Memorial Hospital of Burlington County, Mount Holly.
Born in New Egypt, she was a longtime Mercerville resident before moving to Jacobstown five years ago.
She was an assembly line worker for Bayer Aspirin Co. before retiring.
Daughter of the late Peter and Mary Hiss Kowalsky and wife of the late Frank Papiez, she is survived by three brothers, Joseph Kowalsky of Succasuanna, Stanley Kowalsky of Maryland and Leon Kowalsky of Edison; a niece and her husband, Doris and David Sager, with whom she lived; and other relatives.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church, Hamilton.
Burial will be in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery, Ewing.
Calling hours will be 8:30 to 10 a.m. today at Hartmann Funeral Home, 2830 Nottingham Way, Mercerville.

Ruth E. Merrick
SUMMERDALE, Ala. - Ruth E. Merrick, 64, of Summerdale, Ala., died May 2 in Crown Health Care Nursing Home in Mobile, Ala.
Born in Trenton, she had lived in Robbinsville for 20 years before moving to Cape May Court House in 1976 and to Summerdale in 1991. She was a retired secretary for Cape May County. She was a former member of the Hamilton Grange and a member of the N.J. Starcraft Camping Club.
Survived by her husband, Wilson J. Merrick; two sons, John Merrick of Green Creak and Michael Merrick of Cape May Court House; two daughters, Joan Merrick of Woodbine and Lillian Turchi of Jonesboro, Maine; a sister, Roseanne Snoody of Wrightstown; nine grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. John’s Church, 1282 Allentown-Yardville Rd., Allentown.
Interment followed in Colonial Memorial Park, Hamilton.

Nicholas D. Santarsiero, Sr.
EWING —- Nicholas D. Santarsiero, Sr. died Wednesday, May 3, at Capital Health System at Mercer hospital, Trenton.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident.
He was an insurance agent for Unity Life before retiring.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Son of the late Joseph and Jenny Bocchicio Santarsiero, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen Dull Santarsiero; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Mark Shropshire and Kimberly and Matt Remley, all of Ewing; a son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas R. and Nancy Santarsiero of Millstone; four grandchildren, Chad and Ryan Shropshire and Matthew and Zachary Santarsiero; a brother, John; and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Incarnation Roman Catholic Church, Ewing.
Funeral was held in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3076 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, N.J. 08648.

Jane B. Ryan
PLUMSTED —- Jane B. Ryan, 74, died Saturday at her daughter’s home in New Egypt.
Born in New Egypt, she was a life-long area resident.
She retired as a clerk with the state Department of Human Services, She formerly was a office nurse for Dr. Obert, New Egypt.
She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary New Egypt Unit 455 and past county president of Ocean County American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a member of Black Eyed Susans, Chapeau Passe Ocean Salon 8 and Forty, La Secretaire Passe 8 and Forty Departmental De New Jersey, and New Egypt United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher.
She was a former Girl Scout leader, a Red Cross volunteer at Walson Army Hospital, Fort Dix, and a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary Unit 599, New Egypt.
Sister of the late Benjamin Buckalew and Norma Blum, she is survived by her husband, Edward M. Sr.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward M. Jr. of New Egypt and Robert W. and Cindy Ryan of Chesapeake, Va.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Bill Roberson, Linda and Jim Thurman, Elizabeth and William Wagner, and Kathleen and Frank Emery, all of New Egypt; a sister, Rita Steels of Whiting; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at New Egypt United Methodist Church, 38 N. Main St., New Egypt, with the Rev. Paul Amey officiating.
Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, New Egypt.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Egypt United Methodist Church Sunday School, 38 N. Main St., New Egypt, N.J. 08533; or American Legion Auxiliary Unit 455 School Book Fund c/o Unit 455, 2 Meadowbrook Lane, New Egypt, N.J. 08533.

Raymond McElvaine
MILLSTONE —- Raymond McElvaine, 75, died Friday, May 5, at Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan Township.
Born in Jamesburg, he lived in Hightstoewn before moving to Clarksburg 37 years ago.
Mr. McElvaine retired in 1982 after more than 20 years operating Mack’s Body Shop, Hightstown.
He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe.
Husband of the late Doris McElvaine, he is survived by wife, Margaret Greenman McElvaine; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Debra McElvaine of Yardville, Robert and Brenda Bammann of Folsom, and Karl and Petra Bammann of Friendship, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy and Corey Pogue of Browns Mills and Cindy Pogue of New Brunswick; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Fran McElvaine of Mount Holly and Jack and Doris McElvaine of Jefferson, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center St., Freehold.
Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery, Jamesburg.

Joyce Mae Tabor Stokes
PLUMSTED —- Joyce Mae Tabor Stokes, 65, died Sunday, May 4, at home.
Born in Burlington, Vt., she lived in New Egypt since 1954.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Plumsted Presbyterian Church, New Egypt.
Wife of the late Wallace Stokes and mother of the late Stephen Stokes, she is survived by four daughters, Janice Plumb of Roosevelt, Kathleen Jelinek of New Egypt, Rose Berens of Lawrenceville and Christina Gale of Yardley, Pa.; three sisters, Freda Grassley, June Giroux and Mary Ann Tabor, all of Vermont; her mother-in-law, Minnie Stokes of Vermont; nine grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be held 8 p.m. today at Plumsted Presbyterian Church, 14 Front St., New Egypt.
Burial will be private.
Calling hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt.

Marion Helmlinger
ALLENTOWN —- Marion Helmlinger, 66, died Saturday, May 6 at Capital Health System at Fuld, Trenton.
Born in Trenton, she lived in Allentown the past 17 year.
Mrs. Helmlinger was a secretary for 33 years with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, Robbinsville.
Daughter of the late Joseph Tatory, she is survived by her husband of 45 years, Walter R. Helmlinger; a son, Walter J. Helmlinger of East Brunswick; a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Gary Jewell of Mercerville; six grandchildren, Christopher and Sara Helmlinger, Larissa and Tyler Shaltis, Todd Jewell, and Currie Mooney; and other relatives.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Buklad Yardville Memorial Chapel, 30 Yardville-Allentown Road, Yardville, with the Rev. Stan Kryzston officiating.
Burial will be in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. today at the memorial chapel.
