DOMENICK J. ACERRA, 71, of Sun City West, Ariz. died Aug. 13 at home. Born in Long Branch, he lived in Ocean before moving to Sun City West four years ago. He was a doctor of obstetrics and gynecology and attending physician at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch; Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank; and Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, retiring in 1997. He also served as the chairman of the OB-GYN department at Monmouth Medical Center. His affiliations included the American Medical Association, N.J. Medical Society and the Medical Society of Monmouth County. He was predeceased by his first wife, Carmella Mucci Acerra. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Acerra of Sun City West, Ariz.; four daughters, Deborah Nicholas of Clifton, Va., Leslie Drahos of Zeeland, Mich., Robin Valoff of Shawnee, Kan., and Dana Cottrell of Dillon, Colo.; three brothers, Ralph Acerra of the Lincroft section of Middletown, Joseph Acerra of Tinton Falls, and Robert Acerra of Middletown; his sister, Joan Marangello of Red Bank; three stepchildren; and 13 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Sun Health Hospice Care Service, 12740 N. Plaza Del Rio Blvd., Peoria, AZ 85381.

GRACE IRENE SMITH CANNETO, 59, of Little Silver died Aug. 14 at home. Born in Long Branch, she resided in Little Silver the past 35 years. She was a homemaker and spent her life dedicated to raising her children. She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. She was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Dolores Celli. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard Canneto of Little Silver; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Denise Canneto of Little Silver, and Scott and Madelena Canneto of West Long Branch; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tammy and Robert Bruno of Toms River, and Gina Canneto of Tinton Falls; her sister, Mary Ann Topping of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank, followed by interment at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. Memorial donations may be made to The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 3704, Memphis TN 38173-0704.

ROBERT E. MURPHY SR., 88, of the Belford section of Middletown died Aug. 14 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in the Leonardo section of Middletown, he was a lifelong Belford resident. He operated Murphy Towing, Belford. Prior to that, he operated several area gas stations and owned and operated the Flying A gas station. He was employed at Fort Monmouth for 14 years. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His memberships included the Masonic Lodge No. 172, Middletown Kiwanis Club, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. He served as past commander of the Disabled American Veterans and past president of the Middletown Chamber of Commerce, for which he was honored and commended by the N.J. Senate and General Assembly at his retirement dinner. He also served as a special officer, supervisor of the church crossing guards, constable and municipal court officer. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pauline Clay Murphy of Belford; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Eileen Murphy Jr. of Middletown; his daughter, Paulette Raub of Tinton Falls; his brother, Raymond Murphy of Hazlet; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

ALICE P. PATTERSON STAFFORD, 96, of Red Bank died Aug. 17 at Meridian Nursing & Rehabilitation, Red Bank. Born in Ridgfield, she had resided in New York City, becoming a resident of the Red Bank area after World War II. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Little Silver. Her affiliations included the Woman’s Club of Little Silver, and the Monmouth Park Charity Ball Committee. A volunteer for more than 20 years at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, she received many awards for outstanding service in its emergency room. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace N. . She is survived by her son, Fred W. of Dania, Fla.; her daughter and son-in-law, Consuelo S. and Ray Smith of Oceanport; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. A funeral Eucharist was at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Little Silver, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 325 Little Silver Point Road, Little Silver 07739.

KENNETH C. SMITH, 92, of Keansburg died Aug. 18 in Holmdel. Born in Newark, he lived in Whiting and East Orange before moving to Middletown 24 years ago. He was an electrician for IBEW Local 52, Newark, for 35 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Old Guard of both Red Bank and Whiting, as well as the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Vince Lombardi Council, Middletown. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary D. Smith of Keansburg; his son, Kenneth E. Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; his daughter, Kathy Logan of Holmdel; and two grandsons. Entombment was at Holmdel Cemetery.

ADELE E. POREDA COSTELLO, 95, of Tinton Falls died Aug. 23 at King Manor Care Center, Neptune. Born in Jersey City, she lived there until moving to Tinton Falls in 1991. She was employed at Rockefeller Center, New York City, for 35 years, retiring in 1965. She is survived by her son, James J. Costello of Tinton Falls; one niece; two nephews; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

JACK MICHAEL WYNNE, 2, of Freehold died Aug. 18 at St. Peter’s Medical Center, New Brunswick. He was born in Red Bank. He is survived by his parents, William and Anita Kehlenbach Wynne of Freehold; a brother, Derek Wynne of Freehold; his maternal grandparents, Heinz and Waltraud Kehlenbach of Parlin; his paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Alma and Winnie Wood of Little Silver; his paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Bill and Sue Wynne of Red Bank; his great-grandmother, Rosa Braun Fanderl of Germany; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Services were arranged by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, with a Mass at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Colts Neck. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.

JOSEPH DONALD FRIES, 80, of Matawan, died Aug. 26 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was born in Ridgewood and resided in Matawan since 1962. He was the owner and operator of Taylor Made Boat Curtains, Matawan. He was in the U.S. Marines from 1941-45. He served during World War II, in the 5th Marines 28th Division in Iwojima, and received the Purple Heart. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald A. and Maebelle Shields Fries. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Schuring Fries of Matawan; a son, Donald A. Fries of Matawan; four daughters, Daren Hutchinson of Rumson, Patti Fries of Bayville, Nancy Dowd of Island Heights, and Carol F. Dugan of Freehold; a sister, Dorothy Sheils of Greenville, R.I.; and nine grandchildren. Services were arranged by Bedle Funeral Home, Matawan. CLARA "CUDDY" GHEZZI, 88, of Hillsborough died Aug. 31 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville. She previously resided in Rumson 51 years before moving to Hillsborough. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. George’s by the River Episcopal Church, Rumson. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Ghezzi; a sister, Elise Spice; and her parents, Helen Register and Wilbur Felix Spice. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, JoAnne and Wallace W. Farley Jr. of Whitehouse Station; two sons, Robert Kerns of Westchester, Pa., and Ronald Kerns of Chestertown, Md.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services were arranged by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Memorial & Honor Program, P.O.
