OBITUARIES FROM THE YEAR 2000:

EVELYN PARKER BERDEL
EVELYN PARKER BERDEL, 82, of Middletown, died May 21 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. Born in Newark, she resided in Spotswood and East Brunswick before relocating to Middletown five months ago. She was a former communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Old Bridge. Her husband, Albert, predeceased her in 1982. She is survived by a son, Robert Berdel of Monroe Township; three daughters, Donna Morris of West Keansburg, Sandra Drust and Joanne Whalen of East Brunswick; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Services were held May 25 in the Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick. A funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with interment following at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

VINCENT F. PARRINELLO
VINCENT F. PARRINELLO, 78, of Spotswood, died May 25 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are his wife, Alice Schwaeble Parrinello; and two daughters, Stacey of Spotswood and Lori of the Parlin section of Sayreville. Arrangements were under the direction of Crabiel Home for Funerals, Milltown. Interment was in Spotswood Reformed Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vincent Parrinello Scholarship Fund, c/o Spotswood High School, Summerhill Road, Spotswood 08884.

ELMER STEVEN PRASER
ELMER STEVEN PRASER, 68, died May 22 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Surviving are his wife, Miriam Marquet Praser; two sons, Steven of Montgomery, N.Y., and Edward, at home; three daughters, Kimberly Pahira of Edison, Pam Anderson of Chambersburg, Pa., and Christina DelVecchio of Pennington; and a grandson. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 Route 1, North Brunswick 08902.

FLORENCE STRAUCH SCANLON
FLORENCE STRAUCH SCANLON, 90, of South River, formerly of North Brunswick, died May 24 in Franklin Convalescent Center, Franklin Township. Her husband, Timothy, died in 1992. Surviving are a son, Gerald Scanlon of Poultney, Vt.; three daughters, Florence Bevere and Barbara McCann, both of South River, and Virginia DiGiesi of Stanhope; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

ALEXANDER A. "BEER" SUMSKI
ALEXANDER A. "BEER" SUMSKI, 77, of Pabineau First Nation, Canada, formerly of South River, died May 16 in Regional Hospital Centre, Bathurst, Canada. Surviving are his wife, Rita Mildred Prisk Sumski; a brother, Jake Sumski of South River; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services and interment were held at St. Theresa Church Cemetery, Bathurst. Local arrangements were under the direction of Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick.

MARGARET CEREKWAS GRUSKA
MARGARET CEREKWAS GRUSKA, 80, of Valparaiso, Ind., formerly of South River, died June 2 in Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso. Her husband, Steve Gruska, died in 1996, and a son, Thomas, died in 1981. Surviving are a daughter, Vivian Lukes of Valparaiso; a brother, George of South River; a sister, Olga O’Neill of Old Bridge; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services were arranged by Brunswick Memorial Home, East Brunswick, with a Mass planned for June 8 at Corpus Christi Church, South River. Interment will follow in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.

MARY RAZZANO MARTIN HANS
MARY RAZZANO MARTIN HANS, 93, of South River died June 3 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. Her first husband, Oscar Martin, died in 1952, and her second husband, Russell Hans, died in 1978. Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn Paprota, with whom she lived; two sons, Fred Martin of Bradenton, Fla., and Robert Martin of Sayreville; two sisters, Theresa Masiello of Westbury, N.Y., and Kathryn Derent of Sayreville; and eight grandchildren. Services were arranged by Maliszewski Funeral Home, South River, with a Mass at Our Lady of Victories Church, Sayreville. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Brunswick.

FRANK WIECZORKOWSKI
FRANK WIECZORKOWSKI, 67, of Monroe, formerly of Sayreville, died June 2 in Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge division. Surviving are his wife, Greta Just Wieczorkowski; a brother, Joseph Wieczorkowski of Manalapan; and a sister, Rita O’Toole of South Amboy. Services were arranged by Gundrum Service Home for Funerals, South Amboy, with a Mass at St. Mary’s Church, South Amboy. Interment was in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.

Deborah Delatour
TRENTON — Deborah Delatour, 55, died Friday, May 26, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton.
Born in Flemington, she moved to Trenton in 1981.
She was a shipping supervisor with Belmont Forwarding Co., Lambertville, and worked many years at her family’s restaurant, Country Kitchen.
A member of True Servant Worship and Praise Center, she was a foster mother and raised more than 20 children.
She attended Hunterdon County public schools.
Daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Johnson, she is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas Moreland and Bernice Horton and Pierre Delatour and Ayana Ford, all of Trenton, and James Johnson of Ringoes; three brothers, Charles and Robert Johnson of Doylestown, Pa., and Keith Johnson of Stroudsburg, Pa.; six sisters, Sharon Wilson of Burlington, Patricia Reading and Carol Jackson of Trenton, Marsha Domine of Yardley, Pa., Kathy Johnson of Mount Holly and Donna Chamberlain of Lambertville; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephew and other relatives.
The funeral was held Friday at E. Bethel Baptist Church, Trenton, with the Rev. Carl Jenkins, pastor of True Servant Worship and Praise Center, officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Anderson Funeral Service, Trenton.

Dorothy Colligan
Dorothy Hargraves Colligan, 87, died May 31 at Buckingham Rehabilitation Center, Pineville, Pa.
Born in Trenton, she was a longtime Lambertville resident.
She was assistant manager of Ben Franklin 5 & 10 store in Lambertville many years.
Ms. Colligan was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lambertville and its Mary Beth Club.
Daughter of the late Wallace and Martha Whayland Hargraves, widow of Thomas Colligan and grandmother of the late Bruce Rose, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wallace and Janet Colligan of Rochester, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Charles Rose of West Amwell; a granddaughter, Susan Rose; two great-granddaughters, Erin and Katie Rose; and two cousins, Jean Ward and Kathryn Earls.
The funeral was held Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Lambertville. Burial was in Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Garefino Funeral Home, Lambertville.
