JOHN D. HOLTHAUSEN
JOHN D. HOLTHAUSEN, 36, of Sayreville, died May 30 at home. Surviving are his parents, Irene and Rudy Holthausen, with whom he lived; two brothers, Thomas of Sea Bright and Daniel of Massachusetts; a sister, Susan Maxein of the Brick Town section of Brick; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin section of Sayreville. Interment was in Washington Monumental Cemetery, South River.
Arthur Foy
Arthur A. Foy, 84, of Neshaminy Manor Home in Doylestown, Pa., and formerly of Pennington and New Hope, died Friday, June 2.
He was the widower of Hazel D. Foy and father of the late Brian M. Foy.
Born in Trenton, N.J., he was schooled in Inverness, Scotland, and at Rider College.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Foy was a partner in the certified public accounting firm of Parsons, Foy and Murphy in Princeton.
He is survived by a son, Arthur Ian Foy of Towson, Md.; two daughters, Maureen Field of Oudon, France, and Leslie F. Grant of New Hope; and five grandchildren.
Denmon Bevis
PENNINGTON — Denmon F. Bevis, 78, of Pennington, died Monday, May 29, in Readington Township.
Born in Brooklyn, he lives in Ringoes from 1953 to 1997.
Mr. Bevis retired as a maintenance worker for the Princeton Theological Seminary. Previously, he worked with William Lenz Plumbing, Hopewell.
Mr. Bevis was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South pacific form 1942 to 1945.
He was a member of Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian Church in Ringoes and its Keenagers. He was a member of Flemington Elks Lodge No. 1928, East Amwell Seniors and the Flemington Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Son of the late Frank and Augusta Kropp Bevis, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Boehme Bevis; two daughters, Denise Yarashas of Kunkletown, Pa., and Jill Whitney of Delaware Township; and four grandchildren, Robyn and Megan Yarashas and Nicklaus and Randall Whitney.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Ringoes.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Florence Umberger
BORDENTOWN CITY — Florence “Peaches” Umberger, 84, died May 30, at home.
Born in Trenton, she lived there before moving to Bordentown in 1988.
She was a member of the Republican Party and worked with the election office for 30 years. She volunteered at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton from 1989 to 1994, more than 2,100 hours.
Daughter of the late John and Anna Matae Soprony and wife of the late Douglas B. Umberger, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Noel D. and Karen Umberger of Langhorne, Pa. and Grant W. and Joanne Umberger of Bordentown Township; a daughter and son-in-law, Gaye F. and Walter Loginow of Hamilton; three sisters, Ann Silage of Detroit, Valerie Soprony of Holder, Fla., and Eileen Sowa of Zephyrhills, Fla.; six grandchildren, Mark, Dena and Doug Umberger and Kristine, Katherine and Michael Loginow; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at Knott’s Colonial Funeral Home, Hamilton, with the Rev. George David officiating.
Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Trenton.
Louis A. Christiani
MANSFIELD — Louis A. Christiani, 74, died May 27 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital in Jersey City.
Born in Jersey City, he resided at Homestead at Mansfield for four years.
Mr. Christiani was the owner of Sunnyside Sweet Shop in Rosell and retired from Warner Lambert Pharmaceutical in Morris Plains.
He was a United States veteran of World War II.
He was a member of St. Clare’s Catholic Church, Florence, and the choir of the church. He was also a former member of St. Joseph the Carpenter Catholic Church, Rosell and its choir and bingo committee.
He sang with the Barber Shop Singers of America, Union, was a member of the Willitts Hogan Tonne American Legion Post 39, Roebling, Opre Larson V.F.W. Post 8838, Roebling, Loyal Order of the Moose, and was also an avid wood crafter.
He is survived by his wife, Philomera Simeone Christiani; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann and John Johnson Jr., of Cranford, Lois Christiani Pucci and Michael Pucci of Mustang, Okla., Barbara and Fred Faton of Las Vegas, Nev; two sons and daughters-in-law, Louis and Helen Christiani, of Garwood, Thomas and Christine Christiani of Howell; eight grandsons,; two brothers, Nicholas and Christian Kasyan of Toms River; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held from Koschek and Porter Funeral Directors, Roebling.
Burial followed at Brig. General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, North Hanover.
Wilmer C. Ames
CHESTERFIELD — Wilmer C. Ames Sr., 77, died June 3 at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital, Trenton.
Born in Birdsnest, Va., he lived in Crosswicks for more than 50 years.
Mr. Ames retired in 1988 after 34 years as a lab technician at Princeton University.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Ames was a member and chairman of the Trustee Board of the Union A.M.E. Church, Allentown. He was a trustee of the North Crosswicks Cemetery Association and an exempt member of the Crosswicks Union Fire Co.
Son of the late John Herbert and Eloise Collins Ames, stepson of the late Lyn Collins and father of the late Wilmer C. Ames Jr., he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gertrude Mae Floyd Ames; two sons, Marvin S. and Herbert K.; a daughter and son-in-law, Authurine and the Rev. Gerald DeVan; five sisters, Margaret Nottingham, Daisy Booker, Lauramer Ames, Delois George and Lucretia Francis; a brother, Douglas Collins; two granddaughters, Auronda A. and Caisse A. Barnes; a stepgrandson, Gerald DeVan Jr.; a great-grandson; and other relatives.
The funeral will be 6 p.m. June 8 at Union A.M.E. Church, 72 Church St., Allentown, with the Rev. Archie Cummings officiating.
]Calling hours will be 3 p.m. until service at the church.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Allen Memorial Church, Bayside Road, Franktown, Va., with the Rev. C.W. Morris officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Morris Funeral Home, Nassawadox, Va.

Edith M. Martin
BORDENTOWN — Edith M. Martin, 63, of Bordentown, passed away June 3 at her residence.
Born in Trenton, Mrs. Martin was a former Hamilton resident, presently residing in Bordentown.
Daughter of the late Victor and Mildred Mueller, she is survived by her husband of 43 years, Richard S. Martin; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Terrie and Peter Stork of Long Island, N.Y., Tracy A. and David Lorimer of Bloomsbury, and Jennifer L. Martin at home; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard S. Jr. and Susan Martin of Long Island, N.Y.; three sisters and spouses, Joan and William Patterson of Allentown, Alma Rowe of Robbinsville and Wilma and Thomas Harris of Robbinsville; a brother and his wife, Victor and Carol Mueller of Cream Ridge; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and John Steiner of Seaside Park; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Doris Martin of Hopewell; six grandchildren, Melanie and Peter Jr. Stork, Cody and Shannon Lorimer and Richard III and Christine Martin and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square with her niece, Kimberly Kindle, officiating.
Interment followed in Ewing Cemetery, Scotch Road, Ewing Township.

Robert Swart
DUNEDIN, Fla. — Robert Swart, 79, died May 27 at home.
Born in Washington, Pa., he lived in Florence 43 years before moving to Dunedin 14 years ago.
He worked for John A. Roebling’s Sons Co. in Roebling many years and Yates Industries in Bordentown for nine years before retiring.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Dunedin and enjoyed bowling.
Son of the late Ernest and Lulu Friend Swart and Father of the late David P., he is survived by his wife, Viola Snyder Swart; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert F. of Burlington, Thomas G. of Florence and Frederick A. and Terry Swart of Roebling; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Conklin of Roebling and Cynthia and Robert Downing of Clearwater; a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Mae Swart of Clio, Mich; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
The funeral was held at the Dennison Funeral Home, Florence.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Florence.
Arrangements were by Chambers D’Errico and Correnti Funeral Home, Trenton.
Mildred Hankins
PLUMSTED — Mildred Hankins, 84, died May 31 at Mount Holly Center, Lumberton.
Born in Cookstown, she was a lifelong area resident.
She retired from the finance department at Fort Dix.
Daughter of the late Harold and Bertha Hankins and sister of the late Russell, she is survived by a niece and her husband, Ida and Donald Evans of New Egypt; a great-niece, Karen Evans; and cousins.
The funeral was held at Tilghman Funeral Home, New Egypt.
Burial was in Emley’s Hill Cemetery, Cream Ridge.

Lawrence Thomas Smith
TRENTON — Lawrence “Larry” Thomas Smith Sr., 54, died June 1 at home.
Born in Princeton, he was a lifelong area resident.
He worked with Ed and Guy’s Auto Body, Trenton, and was a Marine Corps veteran.
Brother of the late Phillip Pappano and William Smith Jr., he is survived by his mother, Anne J. Britton Smith Pappano; his father, William James Smith Sr., both of Trenton; a son, Larry Jr.; three daughters, Lisa, Heather and Renee Smith, all of Burlington; two brothers, John G. Smith of Philadelphia and Dennis W. Pappano of Trenton; a sister, Barbara A. Chell of Yardville; grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at Chiacchio Southview Funeral Home, Trenton.
Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
