Barbara M. Spiegel
SOMERVILLE, NJ - Barbara M. Spiegel, age 81 years, of Somerville, NJ, died Sunday October 16, 2011 at the home of her daughter in Bridgewater, NJ.
Born in Somerville, NJ April 22, 1930, daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Ten Eyck Amerman, she had resided in the Somerville area since 1959.
She was a retired registered nurse and was formerly a private duty nurse at Middlesex General Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ, and later was a medical receptionist at Somerville Pediatrics.
She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Somerville, NJ and attended the Pluckemin Presbyterian Church.
Her husband Sidney Spiegel died in 2001 and a son Kenneth Fricke died in 1972. Surviving are three daughters; Sunnie Mortimer of Lebanon, NJ, Lillian Tarentino of Somerville, NJ and Rebbecca Sheasley of Bridgewater, NJ; two sons, Rev. David Spiegel of Norwick, NY and US Army LT. Col. Richard Spiegel of Weisbaden, Germany; two sisters, Louise Thul of North Plainfield, NJ, Marie Patterson of Flemington, NJ; one brother, Roy Amerman of Romulus, NY; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Pluckemin Presbyterian Church, Pluckemin, NJ. Interment
will be private in Neshanic Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday 1:00-3:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Bernard J. Kerr
FLEMINGTON, NJ - Bernard J. “Red” Kerr, age 85 years, of Flemington, NJ, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at Rolling Hills Care Center, Lebanon, NJ.
Born in Flemington, NJ, November 11, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Charlotte Queen Kerr. He was a lifelong resident of Flemington and was a World War II Merchant Marine and Army veteran. He worked for a number of years as a plumber and well driller for Stothoff Company and had a long career in maintenance and as a foreman with RCA Somerville, NJ, retiring in 1988.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Virginia Kerr; two sons, Bernard Jr. and his wife Sue, of Belleville, IL, and Raymond and his wife Melody of Lambertville, NJ; three grandsons, Bradley and his wife Jessica and Brent of Belleville, IL, and Brian and his wife Teri of Edwardsville, IL; one granddaughter, Brittney Odle and her husband Christopher of Belleville, IL; four great grandchildren, Brice, Brady and Braxton Kerr of Belleville, IL, and Brenna Kerr of Edwardsville, IL; two sisters, Charlotte Ryan of Hammonton NJ, and Florence Knoster and her husband Christian of Sergeantsville; one brother, Joseph Kerr Jr. of Flemington, and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond P. Kerr and his wife Dorothy Kerr, his sister-in-law, Stephanie “Penny” Kerr, and his brother-in-law, William Ryan.
Visitation hours will be on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM with graveside services to follow at Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ, at 3:30 PM. Rev. Lin Smallwood, Sergeantsville United Methodist Church, will officiate.

CLINTON, NJ - Jeffrey Jacobs, age 63 years, died on Tuesday, October 18, 2011, in Kindred Hospital, Wayne, NJ.
He was born in Newark, NJ, and was a resident of the Hunterdon Developmental Center.
Graveside services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM in the Flemington Jewish Community Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Margaret R. Ellice
READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Margaret R. Ellice, age 97 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Millburn, NJ, December 20, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence Clark Ross.
She graduated from Millburn High School and Sweet Briar College, VA in 1934. She was employed by RCA Communications, Ney York, NY in the television department. In 1939, she married
Edward M. Ellice and moved to Cokesbury, NJ in 1941. She volunteered for the Red Cross in Hunterdon County, the Hunterdon Medical Center, the Hunterdon Welfare Board and the Clinton Township Board of Education. She was formerly a member of the Clinton Presbyterian Church and the Community Garden Club. In 1970, she and her husband retired to Hillsborough, NH where she was a member of the Bird and Garden Club, the Antrim Presbyterian Church and it's Ladies Society. She also volunteered for the church consignment shop, was a docent at the Franklin Pierce Homestead and at the Gregg Rehabilitation Institute. In 2000, she moved to Readington Township, NJ, where she was a member of the Stanton Reformed Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Parry and Bruce Adam of Readington Township, NJ; two granddaughters, Aubrey Barr of Duxbury, MA, and Gladden Falivene of Warren, NJ; and four great-grandchildren: Ellie, James, Eva, and Adam.
Interment will be in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Hillsborough, NH. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 1 PM in the Stanton Reformed Church, Stanton, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Royal Sommer Schaaf, M.D.
LEBANON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Dr. Royal S. (Roy) Schaaf, age 93 years, of Lebanon Township, NJ, died of natural causes on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in New York City, NY, May 31, 1918, he was the son of the late Dr. Royal A. and Helen Thomas Schaaf. He spent his childhood in Newark, NJ and had formerly resided in Upper Montclair, NJ for twenty-nine years, followed by thirty-one years in Lebanon Township.
After graduating from Exeter Academy ('35), Dr. Schaaf continued his education at Harvard University ('39) and the Harvard Medical School. He completed his internship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He then served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II where he met his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Lt. Mildred (Mickey) Carper, R.N. at Randolph Field in Texas. Following his discharge, he returned to Mass General to complete his residency in internal medicine and cardiology.
Dr. Schaaf was in private practice for three years, but then joined Prudential Insurance Company in 1953 in order to spend more time with his children. He remained at the Pru through 1980 when he retired as Medical Director. After retirement, Dr. Schaaf continued to work part-time as a cardiologist for New Jersey Life.
Dr. Schaaf enjoyed playing his flute, and for twenty-nine years met with his friend, Fred Wachtel, to play duets. He was a member of the Montclair S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. Inc. and sang with the Bitter Pills Quartet. He was an avid stamp collector, Civil War buff, loved family canoe/camping trips and cutting firewood.
In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his sister, Kate Culver (Perry), and granddaughter Kelly Brooks. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Kate martin (Chad), Susan Arnone (John), Virginia Brooks, and Royal Schaaf (Vicki); and grandchildren, Lee Koch, Michael Martin, Megan Wilkins, Kevin Brooks, Ryan Brooks, Cameron Letwinch, Helen Kern, Courtney Letwinch, and Cali Schaaf.
Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Over the years, Dr. Schaaf was a significant supporter of Ronald McDonald House, collecting millions of can tabs to benefit the children and their families. In honor of his commitment, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 145 Somerset Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

FLEMINGTON, NJ - Manfried Wolf, age 81 years, died on Thursday, October 27, 2011 in Deerfield Beach, Florida.
Born in Germany, April 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Leo and Leonie Kaufman Wolf.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Selligman Wolf; two sons, Michael Wolf anf Steve Wolf; a daughter, Elana Wolf-Gross; and six granbdchildren.

Alphonsus Vincent Giordano, Jr.
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Alphonsus Vincent Giordano, Jr., age 61 years, of Clinton Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at his home.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Alphonsus V. and Eunice Riedyk Giordano, Sr. He had formerly resided in Scotch Plains, NJ.
He was a building contractor.
He was an avid Harley-Davidson rider and owner and an antique car enthusiast.
Surviving are his wife of thirty-five years, Sally Ann Nicholson Giordano; two sons, Joshua and Jordan Giordano of Clinton Township, NJ; a daughter, Johanna Giordano of Clinton Township, NJ; a sister, Anita Perrucci of Watchung, NJ; and two brothers, Joseph Giordano of Washington, NJ, and Robert Giordano of Clinton Township, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment
will be in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, NJ. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 9-11 AM in the funeral home.

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Christiana W. Mueller, age 88 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Thursday, November 3, 2011, at her residence.
Born December 24, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Christian and Bertha Mueller.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - Max W. Gwin, age 94 years, of Hillsborough, NJ, died on Saturday, November 5, 2011, in Princeton University Medical Center, Princeton, NJ.
Born in Peru, KS, July 28, 1917, he was the son of the late David and Alice Jones Gwin.
He was a United States Army veteran of World War II.
