Walter Joseph Zambek
KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ - Walter Joseph Zambek, age 91 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at his residence.
Born in Passaic, NJ, July 12, 1920, son of the late Henry and Nellie Herzig Zambek, he was a lifelong area resident.
A graduate of Frenchtown High School, Frenchtown, NJ, Mr. Zambek, along with his brother, owned and operated Grandview Dairy, Baptistown, NJ for many years. He then went into another family venture, owning and operating WJZ Vending Company.
Naturally gifted with design and mechanical innovation, Walter accomplished many things with limited resources, such as making a backhoe from scratch which he eventually used to help build both his parents’ home as well as the creamery for the family dairy farm. He would come up with a new invention weekly and had designed an invention that would make the Amish Country buggy safer for the community.
He and his wife very much enjoyed visiting the Amish Country in Pennsylvania and his beliefs coincided very much with the Amish in the sense of their general faith and commitment to God. Walter was the type of person who, “would give you the shirt off his back” and not ask for anything in return. If someone was in trouble, he would do all that he was able to assist that person and for that, the world is a bit of a better place.
An accomplished photographer, he won two state-wide awards throughout the years.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hunterdon Hospice for their gentle, loving care of Walter during his final weeks.
