Sven E. Johanson
READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Sven E. Johanson, age 100 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at his home.
Born in Sweden, October 10, 1911, son of the late Johan and Hilda Johanson, he had formerly resided in Staten Island, NY before moving here in 1976.
A former welder and boilermaker, he formerly owned and operated a business in Staten Island.
A United States Navy veteran of World War II, he was a shipfitter who was stationed in Trinidad and Rio de Janiero, Argentina, repairing Navy vessels during the war.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Flemington, NJ; Three Crowns Lodge #704 of the Vasa Order of America and was a former member and Deacon of Messiah Lutheran Church of Staten Island.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-eight years, Marta Bothen Johanson; a daughter, Maud Wennstrom of Anglestrom, Sweden; two sons, Roger Johanson of Readington Township, NJ and Carl Johanson of Eden Prarie, Minnesota; a sister, Gunni Wennstrom of Laholm, Sweden; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 17, 2012, at 11:00 AM in St. Paul lutheran Church, 201 Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Thursday 6:00-8:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment
will be in Sweden.
Steven "The Honey Man" Vasacz
HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, NJ - Steven Vasacz, "The Honey Man", age 94 years, of Holland Township, NJ, died on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at home surrounded by loved ones.
Born to Mary and Balazs Vasacz in New Jersey, January 7, 1918, he grew up in Raven Rock, NJ and later resided in Three Bridges, NJ, on the Force Farm and then in Raritan Township, NJ for many years and had resided in Holland Township two years.
He became interested in beekeeping at an early age while attending Lambertville High School and pursued beekeeping all his life. He also farmed for most of his life and for many years was at the McLeod Farm near Flemington Junction.
He was a member of the Three Bridges Reformed Church where he formerly was a Sunday School Teacher. He was an avid bowler and NY Giants fan who was overjoyed at the recent Super Bowl victory. He was also an avid darts player and champion as well as an expert in Chess.
His mother, Marion F. McLeod, died on November 14, 2009.
Surviving are a niece, Barbara Curtis of Iselin, NJ and his devoted family, Floyd Sr., Marian and Emily Fleming of Holland Township, NJ.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ followed by burial in Summit Park Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY. Marion E. Watts
HIGGINSVILLE, NJ - Marion Watts, age 99 years, of Hillsborough Township, NJ, died on Saturday, February 11, 2012, in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Higginsville, NJ, February 9, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Walter and Belle Huff Higgins. She was a lifelong resident of Higginsville and a longtime saleswoman for Avon.
Her husband, Frederick Foster Watts, died in 1973. Surviving are a daughter, Carol Watts Emerson, of Garland, TX; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment will be private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Janet Kay Keltgen
HAMPTON, NJ - Janet Keltgen, 63, of Hampton, NJ, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2012, with her daughters by her side.
Janet was born on March 13, 1948, in Minneapolis, MN. She moved to NJ in 1980. She has passionately spent the last twenty five years of her life advocating on behalf of individuals with disabilities. She truly lived to serve others and loved her job as a case manager at the ARC of Hunterdon County.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law; Charlie and Betsy Loiacono, Mike and Katie Kondratiuk, sister; Judy Wise, six grandsons; Peter, Matthew, Austen, Andrew, Michael and Nathan; and countless friends she considered family.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday February 18, 2012 at 11AM at Clinton United Methodist Church, in Clinton, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.

Howard Joel Parkes
FLEMINGTON, NJ - Howard Joel Parkes, age 99 years, of Flemington, NJ, died on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Raritan Township, NJ, November 20, 1912, son of the late Howard M. and Ella M. Hellyer Parks, he had resided in Flemington since 1951, having formerly lived in Milford and Neshanic, NJ.
He was formerly a District manager for Brandt Theaters and was the Manager of the Hunterdon Theater, Flemington, NJ for many years when it first opened in 1941.
A longtime member of the Milford Presbyterian Church, Mr. Parkes was formerly a Sunday School Teacher there. He was a member of the Milford Fire Company, Milford, NJ; Darcy Lodge #37, F. & A. M., Frenchtown, NJ; American Legion Post #159, Flemington, NJ; and VFW Post #7856, Flemington, NJ. He served in the United States Army from 1946-1949, being honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant.
Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Muriel May Cole Parkes; a step-son and his wife, Robert and Jo Ann Jones of Andover, NJ; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment
will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Gerald Barclay "Jerry" Cervenka
CHERRYVILLE, NJ - Gerald Barclay “Jerry” Cervenka, age 86 years, of Cherryville, NJ, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012 on the family farm where he was born on July 12, 1925 to the late Rudy and Mary Tuma Cervenka. He lived, worked and raised his family on the “Cervenka Farm.”
A 1943 graduate of Flemington High School, Flemington, NJ, Jerry loved to play the accordion and was remembered by his classmates in the high school yearbook as, “a businessman with music in his soul.”
In addition to owning and operating the Cervenka Farm, Jerry was a life member of the Quakertown Fire Company and a charter member of the Quakertown Recreation Club. He also was a committee member of the ASC farm organization.
Surviving are his wife of sixty-six years, Marjorie Smith Cervenka; three children and their spouses, George and Deborah Cervenka of Cherryville, NJ, Kathy and John Zullo of Cherryville, NJ and Cheryl and Larry Tigar of Pittstown, NJ; seven grandchildren, Tracy Davis, Dana Saueressig, Jason Zullo, Amanda Kilinski, Christina Kall, Bridgette Godown and Robert Godown, Jr.; and three great grandchildren, Lydia Kilinski, Logan Kall and Luke Kilinski.
He was pre-deceased by a granddaughter, Shannon Marie Cervenka and a brother, Joseph Cervenka.
Funeral Services will take place Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment

Helen Jean Catanio
CLOVER HILL, NJ - Helen Jean Catanio, age 88 years, of Clover Hill, NJ, died on Friday, February 17, 2012 in the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Clover Hill, NJ, April 22, 1923, daughter of the late Earl and Olive Dilts Lane, she had moved back to Hunterdon County in 2011, having spent many years in Port St. Lucie, FL and Raritan Township, NJ prior to that.
A member of the Three Bridges Reformed Church, Three Bridges, NJ since 1937, Mrs. Catanio was a Homemaker as well as a Bookkeeper for her husband's plumbing and heating business, Frank Catanio & Son. She was also a member of the Three Bridges Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.
Her husband of sixty-six years, Frank J. Catanio, died in 2010.
Surviving are two sons, Jack Catanio of Clover Hill, NJ and David Catanio of Fort Lauderdale, FL; two daughters, Jill Kelly of New York City, NY, and Patricia Catanio of Hillsboro, NC; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will take place Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Three Bridges Reformed Church, 470 Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment
