Wallace H. "Wally" Russell
KINGWOOD TOWNSHIP, NJ - Wallace H. "Wally" Russell, age 87 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, died on Monday, December 24, 2012 at the home of his son, Walter, in Williams Township, PA.
Born in Skillman, NJ, March 7, 1925, son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Sonafrank Russell, he had resided in Kingwood Township since 1946.
A graduate of Flemington High, he was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving in Headquarters Company, 2nd Division of the Ninth Infantry, participating in the invasion of Omaha Beach on D-Day as well as winning two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. In 2007, he returned to Normandy Beach with his sons and grandsons.
His wife, Ida Ecker Russell, whom he married
in 1946, died in 1999.
Wally was employed by Oliver Rubber Co., Flemington, NJ for fifteen years and later worked at Wilson Products, Neshanic Station, NJ, retiring in 1987.
He is survived by three sons, Roger of High Bridge, NJ, Walter of Riegelsville, PA and David of Frenchtown, NJ; three sisters, Hilda Kirschner, Esther McCrea and Helen Kosch; a brother, Robert Russell; and six grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 28, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, followed by interment in Locktown Cemetery, Locktown, NJ. Calling hours will be Thursday from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
Florence M. DeMilto
SARASOTA, FLORIDA - Florence M. DeMilto, age 87 years, of Sarasota, Florida, died Thursday, December 27, 2012, in Sarasota Memorial Care and Rehabilitation Center, Sarasota, Florida.
Born in Stockton, NJ, September 17, 1925, daughter of the late LeRoy H. and Florence W. Parent Brink, she had resided in Sarasota since 1984 and had formerly resided in Flemington, NJ for many years.
She was employed by Acme Market, Flemington, NJ, for over thirty years before retiring.
Her husband, James DeMilto, died in 1975.
Surviving are two nieces, Melody Otto of Sarasota, Florida, and Patricia Godown of Lambertville, NJ; and two nephews, Daniel Zanetti of Mexico, NY, and Edward Zanetti of Venice, Florida.
Graveside services will be held in Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ, Monday, December 31, 2012, at 11:00 AM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be no calling hours.
Lillian Hanlon
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Lillian Hanlon, age 97 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Rolling Hills Care Center, Clinton Township, NJ.
Born in New York City, NY, September 13, 1915, daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Dubecky Atamaniuk, she had resided in the Flemington, NJ area since 1942.
She was retired from the Hunterdon County Democrat where she worked for over twenty years and was formerly active with the Delaware Township Seniors.
Her husband, William S. Hanlon, died in 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Virginia Hanlon of New York City, NY and Joyce LaRowe of Delaware Township, NJ; a son, Ron Hanlon of Seattle, WA; a brother, Eugene Atamaniuk of Brooklyn, NY; four grandchildren, Mark C. LaRowe, Jo-Ann Littlefield, Kathy Martin and Robbie Hanlon; six great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at 12 Noon in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ followed by interment in St. Magdalen Cemetery, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Wednesday 11:00AM to 12Noon.

Margaret M. Barras
FLEMINGTON, NJ - Margaret M. Barras of 60 Broad Street, Flemington, NJ died peacefully in her home on December 30, 2012 at the age of 101. She was attended by her caregiver Selasie Rose Apedo and hospice nurse Betty Hogan at the time of her death. Margaret Ann Miller was born on March 18, 1911 to tenant farmer James Miller and his wife Julia, in a farmhouse on Everetts Hill Road in Flemington. She was the second youngest of eleven children. Mrs. Barras married
the late Forrest H. Barras on January 1, 1930, at the Church of the Transfiguration, The Little Church around the Corner, in New York City.
Mrs. Barras left school after the 8th grade and a few years later went to work at the Union Hotel, in Flemington, where her older sister Florence worked and where they were later joined by Hannah, the youngest. Later she worked at the Flemington Fur Company, the local telephone company, and finally, at New Jersey Power & Light Company, where she worked as a cashier for 26 years before retiring at age 62. Mrs. Barras was well-known for her meticulous appearance, professionalism, and courtesy at the drive-up window where customers paid their bills. She liked to say that she not only received bill payments but more than a few marriage proposals as well (to which she said no, of course.)
During World War II, Mrs. Barras volunteered for the Red Cross Motor Corp, and packaged bandages and medical supplies for shipment to the troops overseas. Known as Nana Mae to the neighborhood children, she often baked cookies and celebrated their birthdays with them. She called her front porch Grand Central Station and friends and neighbors gathered on summer evenings to catch up on news and swap stories late into the night.
Mrs. Barras is survived by her daughter, Beverly Hall and her husband, the Rev. George Hall, of Southbury, Connecticut; her granddaughter, the Rev. Cynthia D. Pape and her companion Anne Moore, of Boston, MA and her grand pugs Cubby, Lolly, and Midge; her great-grandson, Eric Pape and his wife Marisa, of Easton, PA and her great-great-grandchildren, Natalie and Carter Pape; her grandson David Pape and his wife Clover of Staley, NC, and her great-granddaughters, Crystal McBane and Rebecca Pape; her grandson Joel Pape of Ormond Beach, Florida; and her grandson Mathew Pape of Roanoke, VA; and her honorary grandsons, Andrew Peters of Carversville, PA, and Frank Sunder, of Ocean Grove, NJ, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Capner Street, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 349 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.
Ralphea Buchanan Cregar
JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Ralphea Buchanan Cregar, age 97 years, of Jackson, NJ, died Sunday, February 10, 2013, in Care One at Jackson.
Born in Raritan Township, NJ, May 1, 1915, daughter of the late Clarence and Iona Butler Cooper, she resided in Flemington, NJ most of her life until 2000 when she moved to Glen Rock, NJ for six years and then to Jackson, NJ.
A 1933 graduate of Flemington High School, she was formerly a bookkeeper for Berkaw & Mathews Feeds, Flemington, NJ; a travel agent for Shive, Wright & Exton, Clinton, NJ, and then was a practical nurse for many years.
Ralphea was a member of the Stangl-Fulper Collectors Club; the Ladies Auxiliary of Flemington V.F.W. Post #7856 and the Hunterdon County Historical Society.
Her first husband, Philip S. Buchanan, died in 1984 and her second husband, Frank Cregar, Jr., died in 2001. Her brother, Clarence L. Cooper, died in 1975.
Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Philip H. Buchanan of Wall, NJ and James R. and Patricia Buchanan of Howell, NJ; four grandchildren, Scot Buchanan, Cynthia Flores, Jenni Mazetta and Laura Forrest; and three great grandchildren, Kaylin Buchanan, Cole Buchanan and Aidan Flores.
Graveside Services will take place on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Cemetery, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
Bernice A. Kubian
READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ - Bernice Kubian, age 85 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died Sunday, December 30, 2012, at her home.
Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, May 22, 1927, daughter of the late William and Anna Suba Dressler, she had formerly resided in Edison Township for fifty years, then in Kingwood Township, NJ for twenty-four years before moving to Readington Township, NJ three years ago.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society of Our Lady of Victories Church, Baptistown, NJ; a member of the Kingwood Township Senior Citizens and was formerly a communicant of St. Paul's Church, Highland Park, NJ.
Her husband, Fred A. Kubian, died in 1994.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mohamed Mohamed of Edison Township, NJ, Ellen and William Perrine of Readington Township, NJ, and Lou Ann and Michael Todd of Delaware Township, NJ; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

EAST AMWELL TOWNSHIP, NJ - Dolores E. Murphy, age 86 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at her home.
Born in Trenton, NJ, March 14, 1926, daughter of the late William and Ethel Bailey Weston, she had resided in East Amwell Township since 1967..
She was Supervisor of Records for the NJ Dept. of Transportation, Trenton, NJ, until retiring. She was a member of the Department of Transportation Retirees and was a former member of the East Amwell Senior Citizens.
Her husband, Joseph Murphy, Sr., died in 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Michelle Murphy and her husband, Anthony Marino; four sons, Patrick Murphy of Easton, Pa., Steven Murphy and his wife Shirley of Frenchtown, NJ, Daniel Murphy and Joseph Murphy, Jr., both of East Amwell Township, NJ; eight grandchildren, Michael, Angelic, Brianna, Stephanie, Steven, Jr., Matthew, Katelyn and Chris; and nine great grandchildren.
