C. James Worthington
FLEMINGTON, NJ - C. James Worthington, age 62 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Thursday, February 7, 2013, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Somerville, NJ, August 11, 1950, son of the late Clarence and Ellen Anderson Worthington, he was a lifelong Flemington resident and was a 1969 graduate of Hunterdon Central High School, Flemington, NJ.
Jim was employed by Kuhl Corp., Raritan Township, NJ, for forty years and retired in 2012.
He was a devoted member of the Flemington Baptist Church and a faithful attender of its' monthly prayer breakfast.
Jim was also an avid milk bottle collector and animal lover.
He was also pre-deceased by a sister, Carol Worthington. Surviving are several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 15, 2013, at 11:00AM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, followed by interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington. Calling hours will be Thursday 7:00-8:00PM.
Lawrence F. Volk, Sr.
CHERRYVILLE, NJ - Lawrence F. Volk, Sr., age 89 years, formerly of Cherryville, NJ, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, in Douglasville, GA.
Born in Somerville, NJ, September 9, 1923, son of the late Marvin and Edna Stout Volk, resided in Cherryville, NJ for many years, then in Winston-Salem, NC for thirty years before moving to Dallas, Georgia in 2012.
A lifelong farmer, he was a former member of the Franklin Township Board of Education. An avid golfer, he also played baseball for several years in the Tri-County League with the Flemington and Quakertown teams.
His wife, Bonnie Volk, died in 2012.
Surviving are a son, Lawrence Volk, Jr., of Villa Rica, GA.; three daughters, Laura Zimmerman of Cherryville, NJ, Helen Adams of Sanibel, FL. and Victoria Aurelius of Sadieville, KY.; a brother, John Volk of Norristown, NJ; four grandchildren, John Volk, Brian Zimmerman, Kit Zimmerman and John Todd Aurelius and one great grandchild, River Volk.
Funeral arrangements will be announced under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment
will be private in Cherryville Cemetery, Cherryville, NJ.
Paul Schneiderman
COLUMBUS, OH - Paul Schneiderman, age 93 years, of Columbus, OH, formerly of Flemington, NJ, died on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Wexner Heritage Village, Columbus, OH.
Born in Poland, October 1, 1919, he had resided in Flemington, NJ for sixty-one years before moving to Columbus in September, 2012.
Paul formerly owned and operated the Flemington Dairy Queen and was also a real estate agent in the area for many years.
A longtime member of the Flemington Jewish Community Center, he served as Religious Chairman there for over fifty years.
Surviving are his wife of over sixty-five years, Gizella Rosenberg Schneiderman; three sons, Mark of Flemington, NJ, Norman of Columbus, OH and David of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Helene Schneiderman, currently living in Germany; nine grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. in the Flemington Jewish Community Center, 5 Sergeantsville Road, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment

Paul and his wife started a fund at the Flemington Jewish Community Center in order to promote awareness of the Holocaust and educate the community. Sally C. Franzel
LINCROFT, NJ - Sally C. Franzel, age 97 years, of Lincroft, NJ, died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, NJ.
Born in Passaic, NJ, December 4, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Angelina Fazio Cormaci.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Ambrose Franzel. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joe Toth, of Lincroft, NJ; a brother, Vincent Cormaci, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV; several nieces and nephews; and her constant companion, Ben.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated on Monday at 10 AM in Saint Leo the Great Church, 50 Hurleys Lane, Lincroft, NJ under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment

Robert L. Cavanaugh
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ - Robert L. Cavanaugh, age 76 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township.
Born in Washington, DC, November 5, 1936, son of the late Roy and Kathryn Goldsmith Cavanaugh, he had formerly resided in Toms River, NJ, before moving to Raritan Township thirteen years ago.
Bob served with the US Army Special Forces and was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring in 1973 after a twenty year Army career. After retiring from the Army, he was associated for twenty years with Cavanaugh Pest Control in Freehold, NJ and in Whitehouse, NJ.
He was a member of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, Clinton Township, NJ; Flemington American Legion Post #159, and was also a member of Hope Mills Lodge, F&AM; of Hope Mills, NC.
Two brothers, Bill Cavanaugh and David Cavanaugh, pre-deceased him.
Surviving are his wife of fifty-four years, Carmelita Varela Cavanaugh; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jonathan and Cindy Cavanaugh of Saudi Arabia, and Robert and Patty Cavanaugh of Jackson, NJ; a daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Mick Reed of Denver, CO.; three brothers, Ralph of Freehold, NJ, Joseph of Toms River, NJ, and James of Hammond, IN.; a sister, Pat Cavanaugh of Gilbertsville, PA.; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 2:00PM in the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints, Red Schoolhouse Road, Clinton Township, NJ. Interment

Polly Jane Smith
UNION TOWNSHIP, NJ - Polly Jane Smith, age 53 years, of Union Township, NJ, died peacefully after a long illness Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
She was born in Morristown, NJ, January 5, 1960, daughter of David E. and Marilyn McNish Smith of Lakewood, NJ. Also surviving are two sisters, Jamie Fellinger and Eileen Smith; two brothers, David E. Smith, Jr. and William P. Smith and several loving nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 10:30AM in Holy Family Church, East County Line Road, Lakewood, NJ.

Alan D. Birnbaum
BETHLEHEM TOWNSHIP, NJ - Alan D. Birnbaum, age 61 years, of Bethlehem Township, NJ, died Monday, February 4, 2013, at his home.
Born in Dover, NJ, October 24, 1951, son of Ruth Jones Birnbaum of Hackettstown, NJ and the late Norris Birnbaum,
he had resided in Bethlehem Township since 1982.
A graduate of Trenton State College with a BA in Music Education, he attended the Chubb Institute and was a computer programmer. He was first employed by Beneficial Finance, then by Household Finance, then by Met Life and lastly by Volvo-Mack Trucks, Allentown, PA.
An accomplished musician, he was an member of the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra and the Central Jersey Symphony where he played both the oboe and english horn. He also was a member of the Somerset Hills Symphony and played in the orchestra at Paper Mill Playhouse, Milburn, NJ.
Active for many years at the Central Hunterdon Baptist Church, Raritan Township, NJ, he was an elder and taught Bible studies there as well.
An avid cyclist, he participated in many cycling charity events for several years.
His first wife, Barit Birnbaum, died in 2002 and a brother, Eric Birnbaum, died in 1994.
Surviving are his wife, Lucila "Angie" Birnbaum; four sons, Christopher, Evan and Forrest, all at home, and Daniel of East Orange, NJ; two daughters, Grace Birnbaum and Daisy Nicole Birnbaum, both at home; his mother; and two sisters, Leah Fritz of Sciota, PA. and Andrea May of Grand Rapids, MI.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 10, 2013, at 1:00PM in Central Hunterdon Baptist Church, 325 Route 31, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Saturday 6:00-9:00PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment
will be in Musconetcong Valley Cemetery, Hampton, NJ.
