Phyllis was born and raised in a farming community south of Columbus, OH. She was an excellent scholar, but like many of her generation, left her studies behind to help bolster her family’s income. Working at an Ohio Army Base during WWII, she met her future husband, Ben, who was a NJ native and enlisted in the Army Air Corps (Europe). Once married
in 1946, the couple lived primarily in the Haskell section of Wanaque Borough, although residing briefly in Midvale, Pompton Lakes, Bloomingdale, and West Milford. In 2002, the couple relocated to western New York (Warsaw) to live with and be near most of their children and their families. Before retirement, Phyllis had been an active member of the Midvale United Methodist Church (Wanaque) for many years. Even in her later years, Phyllis was an avid reader and had a steel-trap memory. Family and coworkers could always count on her recall of phone and other numbers as well as her exceptional spelling. This gift came in handy when she returned to work as a pole clerk for NJ Bell, following years of being a homemaker and raising children. Her years with the phone company were a particular source of enjoyment and pride for her. “Amo te, darling Mom.” Xxxooo Funeral service: 9:30 AM Saturday at the Richards Funeral Home, 4 Newark Pompton Tpk., Riverdale.
