Crommelin, Robert G., 65, husband of Nancy (March), on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Born in Passaic, Mr. Crommelin resided in Pompton Lakes for 30 years coming from Clifton. He had served in the US ARMY during the Vietnam War from 1969-1971 and had earned the following medals, one Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. He was in 1st Battalion, 20th Infantry, 11th Brigade, Americal Division. Along with his wife, he is survived by one brother, Roger (and wife, Irena) of Dingmanns Ferry, PA, one niece, Laura, two nephews, Thomas and Michael, one cousin, Ruth Richard (and husband, James) and many extended family members. Custance, Henry Wade, husband of Betty (Clayborne), passed away at age 80, on Friday, September 25, 2015. Born in Teaneck, NJ, Mr. Custance was a longtime resident of West Milford before retiring to Stockholm. He had served in the US Navy from 1954-1958 and was an engineer at Singer Kearfott Aerospace Co., retiring after 35 years in 1998. He was an accomplished model boat builder and a lifetime train enthusiast. Along with his wife, Betty of 60 years, he is survived by two daughters, Claire Cocurullo of Denver, CO and Lee Ann Custance-Lemke ( and husband, David) of Stockholm. Daffin, Marie L. (Knapp), 64, on September 24, 2015. Beloved wife of George Daffin, and daughter of the late Wilbur Knapp and late Josephine (DeMott) Knapp, she was a 52 year resident of Hewitt, NJ. She worked as an administrative assistant for West Milford Township in the Fire Prevention Bureau and was a member of the Greenwood Baptist Church. Dougherty, Dennis, 76, husband of the late, Lena, on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Born in Wanaque, Mr. Dougherty resided in West Milford for 55 years. He had served in the US ARMY from 1956-1959 and had been employed as a bus driver for Para Transit in Wayne. Mr. Dougherty had been a member of the West Milford Fire Dept. Co. #6 and the West Milford American Legion. Surviving are two daughters, Debra Hill-Allwood (and husband, J Robert Allwood) and Denise Janitz, both of Hewitt, four grandchildren, Douglas, Courtny, Dennis and Leigh-Ann, three great grandchildren and companion, Judy Henry. Steele, Virginia M. (Gordon), 84, of West Milford, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 5, 2015. Born in Venice Beach, CA, she was the daughter of the late Aurelia (Michener) and John Gordon (born Felix Talatovich). A resident of West Milford for the past 8 years, moving here from Albuquerque, NM, where she was employed as a process server for E. R. Steele Process Servers. Mrs. Steele LOVED and was an active supporter of The Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, NY. She is survived in New Jersey by her children, Robert and Felicia Steele, and her son-in-law, Zachary Hollar, and around the country by her sister, one other daughter, eight grandchildren, and four great grand-children. Funeral services are private under the direction of the Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford. Doyle, Kathryn Mary, 89, went home to be with her Savior, the Lord Jesus, on October 14, 2015. She died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Haddonfield, NJ. Previously from Oakland, NJ, Kay was born March 5, 1926, the daughter of the late Dr. Thomas and Margaret Darrington. Raised in Stillwater MN, Kay attended the University of MN where she was a cheerleader. In 1944, she was employed by Western Union in Minneapolis. From there, she was transferred to LA, and met William Robert Doyle. Kay married
Bill, on June 27, 1945 in Yonkers NY. In addition to raising 6 children, Kay was an active member of St. Joseph’s Church in Yonkers. She enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She returned to work full time with Western Union. Her Career spanned over 20 years and moved her family to NJ. She retired at the corporate headquarters in Upper Saddle River, NJ. In addition, Kay was an Usher for many years at St. Mary’s Church in Pompton Lakes, NJ. But, mostly importantly, Kay loved her family. Kay is survived by her good dog Sheepy, her sisters, Doris Ingraham of Winnipeg, Canada, and Marge Relf of Dellwood, MN, her daughters, Melody Bertholf (Phil) of Middletown, NY, Louise LaBarbera, of Brookfield, CT, Eileen Dowd (Rob) of Oakland, NJ and Mary D’Agati (Tom) of Haddonfield, NJ, and son, Thomas Doyle (Sara) of Issaquah, WA. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bill, of 59 years in 2005. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Dorothy Hurlman in 2013, and her son-in-law Frank LaBarbera, In 2013. Kay was blessed with 16 grandchildren, 26 grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Kathryn was loved by everyone who met her, young or old. Laverty, Charles "Chuck" A., 84, on Thurs.10/1/2015. Born in The Moy, Ireland, he first emigrated to NY & graduated Fordham University. He also lived on Staten Island, then in Ohio as an automotive journalist/editor then settled in Wayne, NJ where he published his newsletter Automotive Week & Car Care News for many years. He was also an Irish political activist and a scholar of American & Irish American History & he continued his research until just a week before his death. He served the US Army as a Green Beret/Paratrooper, Army Reserves/Chairperson for the Irish Brigade's 69th Regiment & Past President/longtime member of the NYC Irish History Roundtable. Charles is preceded in death by his Son Conor, and is survived by Mary and three children, Brian, Maureen, and Maeve, and her husband Jason Hajek and their children Stella & Jaxson Charles. Luebke, Ronald F., 83, on Sunday October 25, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Maureen Luebke, and son of the late Margaret (Turocy) and Carl Luebke, he was a 52 year resident of Ringwood, NJ coming from Queens, NY. He worked as a truck driver for Romary Oil Co. and had served in the U.S. Airforce from 1951-1955. Surviving are daughters Karen Luberto of Wanaque and Christine Phalon of Ringwood as well as grandchildren Amanda Anderson, Matthew Riderstoff, Justin Phalon, Jenna Phalon, and great-grandson Gunnar Anderson. Pagan, Haydee D. (Colomer), 75 of West Milford on Sunday, October 11, 2015. Beloved wife of Albino V. Rodriquez and the daughter of the late Haydee (Nunez) and Francisco Colomer. Born in Puerto Rico, she has been a resident of West Milford for the past 16 years moving here from Hackensack, NJ. Mrs. Pagan was employed by the Paterson Board of Education as a grade school teacher for first and second grades and special education teacher. Also surviving are a son, Jose Claudio of West Milford, one daughter, Vivian Annette Pagan of Wanaque, NJ, one brother, Jose Colomer of CA, two sisters, Zoriada Colomer of FL and Silvia Colomer of Puerto Rico and six grand children. Russnak, Alyssa Renee, 14, of Bloomingdale, became an angel on October 24, 2015. Alyssa was a student at Butler High School. She was known for her huge personality and bright smile. Margaret “Joan” Smith, Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and friend. Margaret Joan Smith, 86 of Hewitt, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 in her home with family members by her side. Born in Newark, N.J. Joan lived in the Stirling section of Long Hill Township, N.J. for over 40 years. Joan and her husband Jack raised their five children in Stirling where Joan was a well respected and enthusiastic elementary school teacher. Her love of children extended from her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to her students, neighbors, and many humanitarian efforts to help those in need. Joan moved to Hewitt 10 years ago, making new friends and enjoying the activities the community offered. Joan was predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents James and Margaret Smith, and her siblings Martha Ericson, James Smith, and Ruth Young. Joan is survived by her children John Smith and his wife Catherine Lent, Michele Smith and her partner Bruce Masters, Ruth Krajewski and her husband Donald, Paul Smith and his wife Vivian, Margaret Magee and her husband Edward; her cousin Patricia Harmon; her grandchildren Sara, Leigh, Lauren, Matthew, Tara, Jack, Carla, Hailey, Phoebe, Abby, and Stella; and her great grand children Vincent, Jack, Kate and Isaac. Steele, Stephen G., 62, husband of the late, Frances (Saus) (2012), on Sunday, October 4, 2015. Born is St. Louis, MO, Mr. Steele resided in Pompton Lakes for 20 years coming from Edison. He had been employed as a bus dispatcher for Lakeland Bus Co. in Dover, previously for Hoffman LaRoche and a graduate of University of Missouri at Rolla with a BS in Chemical Engineering. He is survived by two sons, Michael Font of Manalapan and Joseph Font of Miami, FL, one daughter, Karen Williams of Dayton, one sister, Mary Anne Roberts, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
