Teresa C. Battista
South Belmar resident Teresa C. Battista died Monday April 2 at the Bristol Manor Nursing Home in Rochelle Park.
She was 89 years old.
Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Battista lived in South Belmar for the past 30 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, the late Philip Battista who died in 1996.
She is survived by her son Phillip A. Battista of Leonia and her daughter, Judith Jackson of Freehold; three grandchildren, Christine Seidman, Robert Jackson and Heather Welsh, and three great-grandchildren, Zachary and Matthew Seidman and Andrew Evan Welsh.
Interment is at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall Township.
Mersya Miller
Matawan resident Mersya Grickman Miller died Friday, March 16 in Houston, Texas. Each summer, Mrs. Miller and her husband, William vacationed at their summer bungalow in Manasquan for more than 50 years, with family and friends.
She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Miller was a native of Philadelphia, Pa. She attended local schools and graduated from Pierce School [now Pierce College] and the University of Pennsylvania School of Accounts and Finance.
She married
William J. Miller Jr., also of Philadelphia, upon his graduation from Duke University, N.C., and moved to New Jersey. He was employed by Catalin Corporation of America in Perth Amboy for 25 years as vice president of engineering.
When Ashland Oil Corporation of Kentucky purchased Catalin in 1967, the family was transferred to Houston, Texas.
While living in Matawan, she became a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a Past Worthy Matron of Sirius Chapter No. 123 Order of the Eastern Star, as well as past president of the Matawan Woman’s Club. She was also a Charter Member of the Matawan Auxiliary to Bayshore Hospital.
Mrs. Miller was an avid bridge player and for 27 years belonged to the Thursday Fortnightly Bridge Club. In Houston, she was active in the Sandalwood Garden Club and local bridge clubs.
Her husband predeceased her in 1999, as did a son, Gary, in 2005.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two sons, William J. III and his wife, Barbara, of Kennett Square, Pa; Blair E. and his wife Kimberly, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Martha Mersya Miller Gallagher of Fort Worth, Texas; and Judi Rice Abate, beloved daughter of her deceased sister Helen G. Rice, and husband Joseph of Howell Township; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were private and burial will be in the family plot in Arlington cemetery in Drexel Hill, Pa.
Harold Dosby
Wall resident Harold “Hawk” Dosby died at Claremont Care Center in Point Pleasant Beach on Tuesday, April 3 after a long battle with cancer.
He was 58 years old.
Mr. Dosby taught eighth grade Social Studies at Tinton Falls Middle School for 35 years, retiring this past February.
He was also employed as a bartender for the Osprey Hotel in Manasquan for many years in the summer months. Mr. Dosby always enjoyed the beach and reading the paper at the Manasquan Inlet.
He was born in Jersey City and grew up in Hoboken. Mr. Dosby graduated from Hoboken High School and Jersey City State College. He moved to Wall Township in 1977.
Mr. Dosby was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Georgette Wilhelms Dosby, and step-mother Elizabeth Dosby.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Joanne Spaziano Dosby and a son Cash Dosby, who attends Wall High School. He is also survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Patrick Williams of Toms River, and numerous loving family members and friends.
Interment will be private at Ocean County Memorial Park.

Evelyn Reiniger
Wall resident Evelyn Reiniger died Monday, March 26 at Care One Assisted Living in Wall.
She was 94 years old.
She was born in Jersey City, and lived in Ocean Grove for five years and Leisure Village in Lakewood for 25 years, before moving to Wall three years ago.
Mrs. Reiniger devoted her life to her family as a caring wife and mother.
She was predeceased by her husband, Fred, and a brother, Jack DeCoste.
She is survived by a son, Frederick, and his wife Susan, of Wall. Mrs. Reiniger was also the loving grandmother of a grandchild, Fred, and three great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by her five nephews.
Services will be private, under the direction of the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home of Wall.

Norma B. Polakoski
Spring Lake Heights resident Norma B. Pienkowski Polakoski, formerly of Jersey City, died Tuesday, March 27 at Laurelton Village Nursing Home in Brick.
She was 77 years old.
Mrs. Pienkowski was a homemaker, Parishioner of St. Catharine and St. Margaret’s Parish in Spring Lake and a former Parishioner of St. Joseph’s Parish in Jersey City.
Born and raised in Jersey City, she had lived in Spring Lake Heights since 1982.
She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll A. Polakoski, who retired a Capt. from the Jersey City Fire Department on Nov. 28, 2001; her sister Sophie Jodzio, and her two brothers, Benjamin J. and Walter Pienkowski.
Surviving are her sister, Jean Karwel of Lake Hopatcong, and her four nieces and nephews, Veronica Estvander, Clara McCarney, Bernardine Wozniak, Charlene Parker, and Edwin and Walter Pienkowski, Robert Karwel and Thomas Jodzio.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 31 at 8:15 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake.
Visitation was held on Friday, March 30 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Burial
will be at Holy Cross cemetery in North Arlington.
James F. Pierce
Howell resident James F. Pierce died Tuesday, March 27 at St. Barnabas Hospice in Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch. Born in Neptune, he was raised in Belmar and moved to Howell seven and one-half years ago.
He was 49 years old.
Mr. Pierce was a union carpenter for Local 2250 in Red Bank for 30 years. He loved fishing, scuba diving, Harley Davidson’s, antiques and collectables.
Surviving are his wife, Susan; his son, Eric J. Pierce of Howell; two daughters, Alyssa and Carly Pierce of Howell; three brothers, Robert Cooper of Absecon, William Pierce of Brick and Gary Pierce of Brick; sister Sharon Pierce of Belmar; an uncle, Ennis Pierce of Neptune, and his stepmother, Theresa Pierce.
Interment is at Greenwood cemetery in Brielle.
Darren M. Kroupa
Wall resident Darren Matthew Kroupa died Sunday, April 1 at his home after a courageous two-year battle with malignant melanoma.
He was 23 years old.
Born in Neptune, he had been a lifelong resident of Wall. He was a graduate of Wall High School in 2002, and was a member of the High School Band and Jazz band, where he played guitar and bass.
He attended Berklee School of Music in Boston for one year, before transferring to Brookdale College where he received his associate’s degree. At the present time, he was attending Rutgers University for the Pre-law program.
His most memorable experiences in the past two years of illness were his trips to Disney World and to Hollywood to meet Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Clint and Ruth Osborn; his paternal grandfather Kenneth Kroupa and his cousin Kristine Russell.
Surviving are his parents, Kenneth and Debra Osborn Kroupa of Wall with whom he lived; his paternal grandmother, Emily Kroupa; his loving sister, Melanie Kroupa at home; his aunts and uncles Greg and Shelly Russell of Allenwood; Carol and Bill Fanslow of East Brunswick and his cousins Scott, Kimberly, Stacey, Greg, Steven and Marissa and their families.
Relatives and friends were invited to call on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd. in Wall, followed by a Funeral Service today at noon.
Burial
will be in Atlantic View cemetery in Manasquan.

Rita MacDonald
Wall Township resident Rita S. MacDonald died on Wednesday, March 21, at Waterford Glen Assisted Living in Wall.
She was 88 years old.
Born and raised in Roselle Park, she lived in Westfield before retiring. She lived with her husband in Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Winter Park, Fla. She returned to Wall Twp in 2001.
Mrs. MacDonald was the wife of the late Dr. Edward MacDonald, who was in private practice in Roselle Park from 1945 to 1964, and served as Chief of Staff at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Elizabeth from 1964 to 1977. Mrs. MacDonald earned her Associates Degree in accounting from Pace Institute, now Pace University, and was employed as an accountant with Colonial Savings and Loan in Roselle Park.
She was the past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the New Jersey Medical Society and was the past president and an active member of the Associated Guilds and Maternity Guild of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. After retiring to Florida, Mrs. MacDonald, along with her husband, remained active in various charitable organizations and were active parishioners of St. Mary Magdalene Church in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Edward MacDonald.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Francis J. Cronin of Sea Girt; her granddaughters and their husbands, Cathleen Cronin Farago and Jason A. Farago of Cranford, Kelly Cronin Oldroyd and Daniel P. Oldroyd of Red Bank; and her great granddaughter, Caitlin Rose Farago. She also leaves seven nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.
A mass will be offered on Saturday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church in Spring Lake.
Committal will follow on Monday, April 2, at 10 a.m. in St. Gertrude’s cemetery in Colonia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waterford Glen Assisted Living, 2021 Hwy 35, Wall, NJ.

Groa Luzzi
Point Pleasant Beach resident Groa Luzzi died Tuesday, March 27, at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Born in Akranas, Iceland, she lived in Belmar before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1962.
She was 78 years old.
She was a member and communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Point Pleasant.
Mrs. Luzzi was predeceased by her husband, Frederick, in 1973; and her two sisters, Anna and Sigrun Danieldottir of Iceland.
Surviving are her four sons, Frederick M. Luzzi of Point Pleasant Beach, Michael E. Luzzi and his wife, Mary Ann of Shark River Hills, Jeffrey Luzzi and his wife, Shana of Colts Neck, and Daniel Luzzi of Point Pleasant Beach; one daughter, Laura Ann Luzzi of Point Pleasant Beach; two brothers, Sigureur and Margeir Danielson of Iceland; two sisters, Hresna and Dora Danieldottir of Iceland; and four grandchildren, Sean and Scott Sexton and Alexa and Colt Luzzi.
Visitation will be held today, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday, March 30, at 9:30 a.m.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Rose Church in Belmar on Friday, March 30, at 10:30 a.m.
Interment will be at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt.
