Charles J. Howlett
Neptune resident Charles J. Howlett died on Monday, March 26, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Born and raised in Neptune City, he was a graduate of Manasquan High School.
He was 76 years old.
He moved to Shark River Hills in 1956. Mr. Howlett was employed with the Texaco Fuel Corporation in Bayonne, before retiring. In his retirement, he was a school bus driver for Laidlaw Transit in Neptune City.
Mr. Howlett was U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and was a communicant of Holy Innocents Church in Neptune.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lucille Walsh Howlett; his daughter, Luanne Estelle and her husband, Bruce; his sons, Charles Howlett and his wife, Georgine, James Howlett and his wife, Kimberly; and his grandchildren, Christopher, Cory, Casey, Justin, Alexandra, Erica, Lindsey and Marissa. He also leaves his brother, Kenneth Howlett and his wife, Elona; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held today at 9 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd. in Wall.
A mass will be held at Holy Innocents Church in Neptune at 10 a.m. today, followed by committal at Monmouth Memorial Park in Tinton Falls.
Visiting was held yesterday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Helen E. Van Note
Wall resident Helen E. Van Note died Monday, March 26, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center of Neptune.
She was 91 years old.
Born in Montclair, she lived in Asbury Park before moving to Wall 59 years ago. She was employed at Air Cruisers of Wall for 17 years before retiring many years ago. A longtime member of the Glendola Bible Church, Mrs. Van Note was active with the Pride of Wall Seniors and the West Belmar Extension Groups.
She was a life member of the Glendola Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, in addition to being a member of the Glendola-Allenwood Grange for many years. She was a volunteer for 21 years at the Geraldine L. Thompson Care Center, and during that time she made hundreds of Premi Caps for the newborns at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Mrs. Van Note was predeceased by her husband, Benny Van Note, in 1977.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, James and Yvonne Van Note; daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Harold Powell; son, Kenneth Van Note; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held yesterday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home in Wall.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. yesterday at the funeral home, followed with interment at Glendola cemetery of Wall.

Joseph T. Donovan
Healdsburg, Ca., resident Joseph Timothy Donovan, formerly of Manasquan, passed away at his home on March 21, surrounded by his family after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.
He was 54 years old.
Mr. Donovan was born in Jersey City and was raised in Manasquan. He attended St. Denis School and St. Rose High School in Belmar.
He worked as a crane mechanic and a PennCentral Railroad brakeman before moving to Sonoma County, Ca., almost 30 years ago. After arriving in Sonoma County, Joe pursued his education, earning an associate degree from Santa Rosa Junior College and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of San Francisco .
Mr. Donovan was involved in his children’s activities as they grew up, including Boy Scouts, soccer, and baseball. He lived in Glen Ellen for many years before moving to Healdsburg about two years ago. He was employed in the wine industry for more than 25 years, starting with Grand Cru Winery in Glen Ellen.
During his distinguished career, he was the Cellarmaster at Kendall Jackson and most recently he was the Cellarmaster at Simi Winery in Healdsburg. He loved to go camping, boating and to “drown a few worms” in his free time.
Mr. Donovan was the eighth of nine children of William W. and Catherine B. Donovan of Manasquan.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, John and Walter.
Surviving are his loving children, Daniel and Molly; his former wife, Carol Donovan of Glen Ellen, Ca.; his sisters, Kathy Donovan of Thomasville, N.C., Maureen Capuzzi and her husband, Al, of Morris Plains, and Colleen and her husband, Bob, of Point Pleasant.
Mr. Donovan is also survived by his brothers, William and his wife, Maureen, and Edward and his wife, Jane, of Manasquan, Matthew and his wife, Doriana; and his sister-in-law, Carol Donovan of Wall.
Mr. Donovan also has many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and many close friends on both coasts that will miss him very much.
A memorial service was held at Simi Winery in Healdsburg, Ca., on Saturday, March 24, for his family and friends in California.
A memorial service will be held in Manasquan some time in the near future for his family and friends on the East Coast, with the date to be announced.

Patty Hay
Manasquan resident Patty Hay died on Saturday, March 24, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Born in Teaneck, she was raised in Sea Girt and graduated from Manasquan High School. Patty was employed with BASF Catalysts in Iselin, as a laboratory technician.
Predeceased by her mother, Jeanne Buckley Hay, she is survived by her father, George Hay; her sisters, Mary Jean Lopez and her husband, Tom, Caroline and Margie Hay; her brothers, Peter Hay and Paul Hay and his wife, Elisa. She also leaves her nieces, Lauren Lopez and Katherine and Elizabeth Hay.
A funeral from the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall was held on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
A mass was held at St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt at 9:30 a.m., followed by committal at St. Catharine’s cemetery Mausoleum in Sea Girt.
Visitation was held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Gerald M. Rock
Wall resident Gerlad M. Rock died Wednesday, March 7, at Veterans Hospital in East Orange.
He was 82 years old.
Mr. Rock worked for Acme Warehouse in South Kearny for 30 years.
He was a World War II veteran who served in Normandy. He was the recipient of many medals, including a Purple Heart, EAMETO Ribbon with Three Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Ribbon.
Mr. Rock loved music and especially loved to sing Irish tunes. He was a kind and quiet man that had a very good sense of humor.
Born and raised in Scranton, he lived in Newark, Parlin, Irvington and North Brunswick, after the war, before settling in Wall with his daughter.
Mr. Rock was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Jeanne LeCalvez, in 1992. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Chester Rock and Bernard Rock; and five sisters, Nora Willis, Lourdes Booras, Carmel Corvino, Romaine Schnedeker and Anne Evans.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Corinne and Glenn Malmberg of Wall; and two grandchildren, Michael, and Alison Malmberg. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Victor LeCalvez of Toms River, Frank LeCalvez and his wife, Bernice of Florida; a sister-in-law, Jacqueline Holland of Toms River; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends were invited to call Sunday, March 11, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan.
A funeral service was held Monday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment following at Van Liew cemetery in North Brunswick.

Pat Corliss
Sanibel Island Fla. resident Pat Corliss passed away in the most peaceful way on Sunday, March 18, at her beloved home. Her husband of 45 years, four daughters and newborn granddaughter surrounded her in love. Mrs. Corliss and her husband, Paul, lived in Wall Township for many years, where their family home remains.
She was 69 years old.
Mrs. Corliss was a vivacious, upbeat, principled woman of great faith. She battled a rare form of cancer for the past two and one half years with tremendous strength and dignity. Her personal faith, the countless prayers and her eternally optimistic husband and tireless caregiver, Paul Corliss, gave her the courage to fight to the end. She continued to enjoy life to the fullest, which inspired many.
Patricia Anne Thompson was born in Philadelphia, Pa., on Feb. 25, 1938 to the late Anne and Wayne W. Thompson. She grew up in Jenkintown, Pa., and graduated with a degree in elementary education from Beaver College in Glenside, Pa.
She taught in the Lower Moreland, Pa., and Wall Township school systems. Pat’s acting career began in high school and flourished on stage through productions in college and with the Wyncote Players. Her love of theater continued through her active support of the arts at Monmouth University in West Long Branch, Schoolhouse Theater in Sanibel, and Florida Rep in Ft. Myers. Her creative expression and talent will live on through the “variety shows” of her family.
As newlyweds, Mrs. Corliss and her husband moved to the Jersey Shore in 1961, where their Wall Township family home remains. Her infectious personality made her instrumental in the success of her husband’s business ventures. Leading an active life in the community, Mrs. Corliss was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan, AAUW, and was a volunteer for the Coastal Caregivers. She gained spiritual fulfillment through the Sanibel Community Church and was a faithful member of the Christian Women’s Club. Her high energy level was evident during her 17 year career as an aerobic dancing instructor and decades of playing tennis at the Manasquan River Yacht Club and the Sundial Beach & Tennis Resort in Fla.
Mrs. Corliss enjoyed traveling with her husband and treasured their traditional family vacations on Sanibel Island and at the Jersey Shore. She relaxed at home, reading, needlepointing, and bird watching. She used her keen mind by playing hours of bridge [recently earning a Sectional Masters level] and solving crossword and Su Doku puzzles.
In addition to her husband, Paul, she is survived by four loyal and proud daughters and their husbands, Beth and Russ Silvestri of San Francisco, Ca.; Diana and Tom White of Baltimore, Md.; Trish and Alan Brynjolfsson of Tampa, Fla.; and Cynthia and Chris Dowd of Franklin, Va.
Mrs. Corliss is survived by her devoted sister, Diane and her husband, Jay Heckler of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and brother, Wayne and his wife, Carole [Mitchell] Thompson of Willow Grove, Pa. She was an aunt to three nieces and two nephews; a daughter-in-law to Elizabeth Corliss Brown of Rydal, Pa.; a sister-in-law to Mary and her husband, Richard Corliss, of New York, N.Y.
Her 16 grandchildren, Allie, Diana and Catherine Silvestri; Reilly, Tucker, Corliss and Patricia Lane White; Griffin, Casey, Chrissy and Kyle Brynjolfsson; Noah, Paul Elias, Simon, Nathan and Patricia Anne Grace Dowd, will miss their “Meme.”
Mrs. Corliss will serve as a role model for her courageous battle with cancer. She truly inspired everyone who came in contact with her. She showed her strength throughout her life and her grand struggle ended in peace.
A memorial service and luncheon will be held on Monday, April 9, at 11 a.m. at the Sanibel Community Church on Periwinkle Way, Sanibel Island, Fla.

Stanley Neeson
Manasquan resident Stanley Neeson died Tuesday, March 20, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune after a brief illness.
He was 82 years old.
Born in Belfast, Ireland, Mr. Neeson lived in Paterson for 67 years, before moving to Manasquan in 1993.
He graduated from Central High School in Paterson in 1943 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in WW II as a machinist 3rd Class.
He worked for the Paterson Police Department for 30 years, retiring as a captain in 1985.
Mr. Neeson entered retirement in good health. He took care of his family, his home and his lawn. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching all sports on television, especially football.
He was a member of PBA Local 1 in Patterson.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Tom.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Hayek Neeson; daughter and son-in-law, Helen Jane and Russel Abrecht of Brielle; grandchildren, Ryan, Christopher and Eric Abrecht; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Arlene Neeson of Paterson; brothers-in-law, Harold Hayek and Bob Taylor; sister-in-law, Anna Mandata; niece and special friend, Judy Newbury; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, March 24, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Manasquan.
Visitation was held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan.
