Virginia Glasby
Brielle resident Virginia Meeker Glasby died on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Care One at Wall.
She was 98 years old.
Virginia was born in East Orange and raised in Orange. She summered on Shark River as a child at the home of her grandfather and then in Mantoloking when her father built a home there. Virginia moved from Short Hills to Brielle in 1986. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Bay Head. There she participated in the Altar Guild. Virginia was also a member of the Bayberry Garden Club of Brielle. She loved ocean swimming and walking the boardwalk and continued to do so into her 80s.
Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Frederick L. Glasby; her parents, Herbert J. and Pearl Meeker; and a sister, Doris Meeker.
She is survived by a son, Frederick L. Glasby, Jr. and his partner Clayton H. Richardson, of Brielle.
Burial
was private.

James H. Hickey
Point Pleasant resident James H. Hickey died Sunday, Aug. 10, in his home.
He was 74 years old.
Born in Englishtown, he lived in Whiting prior to moving to Point Pleasant five years ago.
He was employed as a truck driver for Caroline Freight and ABF Trucking, Linden for 38 years, retiring in 1980. He was a retired teamster with Local 701.
James was a hunting and fishing enthusiast and was a member of the Yo Buck Gun Club, Long Valley for 36 years. He was also a member of the Northeast Mako Owners Club in Brielle.
He proudly served with the U.S. Navy.
James is survived by his wife, Rose Quartararo Hickey; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Rosemarie Hickey, of Edison, and Robert Hickey, of Edison; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and David Longenhagen, of South Amboy, and JoAnn Redman, of South River; a sister, Loretta Bryan, of Maryville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Lena Pepe Maschefzky Truppo
Point Pleasant resident Lena Pepe Maschefzky Truppo died Tuesday, Aug. 5, in her home.
She was 82 years old.
Born in Newark, she lived in Union and West Orange before moving to Point Pleasant one and one-half years ago.
She was a teacher’s aide at the Henry School in West Orange for 10 years, and prior to that, she was the office manager for P. Pepe & Sons Inc., Newark for 10 years. She retired one and one-half years ago.
Lena was predeceased by her husbands, Joseph Maschefzky and Tom Truppo.
Surviving are her son, Joseph Maschefzky, and his wife, Maria; a stepson, Thomas Truppo; a stepdaughter, Janice Wronko; and a sister, Sue Di Leo. She was a cherished grandmother to Stephen, Molly, Meghan and Becki.
The Galante Funeral Home, Union, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
The family prefers memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice in her memory.
Joyce A. Beaton
Brick resident Joyce A. Beaton, who was born in Point Pleasant, died Friday, Aug. 8 in Atlantic Coast Rehab, Lakewood.
She was 38 years old.
She was born in Point Pleasant, and lived there until moving to Brick six years ago.
She was a customer service representative for Beaton Bros. Flooring, Lakewood, for several years.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church.
Joyce is survived by her father and stepmother, David and Joyce Beaton, of Brick; her son, Philip, of Brick; her brothers, David Beaton IV, of Point Pleasant, Edward Beaton, of Manahawkin, Joseph Beaton, of Brick, and David Noel Beaton, of Brick; her sisters, Christine McClain, of Jackson, Jeannine Italiano, of Toms River, Melissa Beaton, of Jackson, Sarah Beaton, of Brick, and Jennifer DeSerro; 17 nieces and nephews; her maternal grandmother, Geraldine Mitchell, of Pennsylvania; and her paternal grandmother, Sylvia Beaton, of Point Pleasant.
The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
John M. Vail, Jr.
Point Pleasant resident John M. Vail Jr. died on Sunday, Aug. 10 in his home.
He was 65 years old.
Born in Ridley Park, Pa., John and his family have lived in Point Pleasant for 34 years.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
John had worked as an installer for Western Union, Philadelphia, for 30 years and later for his dear friend, Carl Lappke, owner of Landlink Traffic Systems, in Point Pleasant.
He enjoyed fishing, baseball, and was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.
Mr. Vail was predeceased by his father, John M. Vail Sr.; his stepfather, Anthony Greco; and by his brother, Robert Vail.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of t36 years, Patricia Gorrie Vail; a son, John M. Vail III, of Seaside Heights; a daughter, Susan J. Vail, of Point Pleasant; his mother, Dorothy Greco, of Wellsboro, Pa.; two brothers, Thomas Vail and his wife, Monica, and Leslie Vail and his wife, Susan; two sisters, Anna M. Olivieri and her husband, Vince, and Elizabeth Vail and her husband, Art; two grandchildren, Alexis S. Vail-Stein and Nicholas T. Vail-Stein; his aunt, Marion Creighton and her husband, Lynn; his stepsister, Sister Mary Carmella; his stepbrothers, Domarino Greco and the Rev. Anthony Greco; his brother-in-law, Charles Gorrie and his wife, Barbara; many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Shirley Rabstein
Point Pleasant resident Shirley Rabstein died Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the Green Acres Manor, Toms River.
She was 91 years old.
She was born in Trenton and lived in Interlaken for 33 years before moving to Point Pleasant 44 years ago.
Mrs. Rabstein was a former member of Temple Beth El, Oakhurst, and of Temple Beth Or, Brick.
She was predeceased by her husband, Solomon, in 1990.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Merle Rabstein, of Toms River; her daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Alan Klieger, of Westfield; four grandchildren, Bruce Rabstein and his wife, Elizabeth, Stacy Buckley and her husband, Robert, Gail Marshall and her husband, Craig, and Leslie Klieger and her husband, Dov Ben-Shimon; and six great-grandchildren, Debra and Jessica Rabstein, Alyssa and Jacob Marshall, and Eitan and Yael Klieger.
Internment took place at Workers of Truth Cemetery, Trenton. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean Township, was in charge of arrangements.
Arthur C. Anderson
Lavallette resident Arthur C. Anderson died Sunday, Aug. 3, in Community Medical Center, Toms River.
He was 71 years old.
Arthur was a longtime resident and volunteer fireman of Lavallette.
Arthur will be missed by his family and many friends.
A celebration of Arthur’s life will be held in the fall.
George R. Diehl
Brick resident George R. Diehl, whose mother-in-law lives in Point Pleasant, died Friday, Aug. 8, in University of Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia.
He was 74 years old.
He was born in Englewood and was raised in Fort Lee, he lived there until he moved to Brick in 1992.
He was lieutenant detective for the Fort Lee Police Department for 30 years before he retired in 1993.
He was in the Army, during peacetime and ranked SP-4.
George was a former volunteer and past fire chief of Fort Lee Fire Company No. 1. He was also past president of the Fort Lee P.B.A., a position he held for eight years.
He was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus at Holy Trinity church in Fort Lee and also a member of the St. Martha’s Knights of Columbus, Point Pleasant Council. He was also a congregant at St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church in Point Pleasant.
He was also an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan.
George was also a plumber, who worked many years before and during his police career.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Litterini Diehl, of Brick; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and his wife, Carol Diehl, of Teaneck; his daughter and her fiance, Lisa Ann Diehl and Steven Melamed, of Toms River; his mother-in-law, Vera Litterini, of Point Pleasant; his sister-in-law, Sharon Diehl, of New York; his nephew, Robert Diehl, of Connecticut; and two grandchildren.
The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Burial
took place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lakewood.
