Frank Phillips
Spring Lake Heights resident Frank “Spec” Phillips died Saturday, July 26 at his home. Born in Como, he lived in Spring Lake Heights all of his life.
He was 88 years old.
Mr. Phillips was a mechanic for Point Pleasant Ford for 38 years before retiring in 1988. He seldom spoke of World War II, but Frank honorably served with the U.S. Army’s 66th Infantry Division in England, throughout France and into Germany from 1944 to 1946. Frank was an avid Yankees and Giants fan.
Mr. Phillips was predeceased by his wife, Sarah “Betty, ” in 2001; and his brother, Edward.
He is survived by one son, Frank and his wife Linda, of Wall; two daughters, Jean Glassford and her husband Jack, of Wall, and Marilyn Krampert and her husband Don, of Wall; one sister, Dorothy Schipper, of Spring Lake Heights; six grandchildren, Gary Glassford and his wife Lisa, Lisa Reinschmidt, Jack Trainor and his wife Chantal, Craig Trainor and his wife Ellie, Bob Phillips and his fiancee Melissa, and Kimberly Phillips; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Matthew and Emily Glassford, Jake, Danielle and Jared Murgio and Kiele Trainor. Frank is also survived by his dear friend and caregiver, Konstantine.

Robert Shanklin
Ormond Beach, Fla. resident Robert Miles Shanklin, formerly of Wall, died Saturday, July 19 at the Ormond Beach home he shared with his wife of seven years, Marguerette.
He was 87 years old.
Mr. Shanklin was born in Newark and lived most of his life in Wall. He and his late wife, Ruth, were married
for 50 years. They moved to Palm Coast, Fla., in 1986. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Shanklin served in an anti-aircraft battalion. He saw action in the African, Middle-Eastern and European campaigns before his discharge in 1945. Mr. Shanklin graduated from Upsala College in 1949. He joined National School Studios, a school photography company that is now Lifetouch. His wife Ruth ran his office while he as territory manager built his business extensively throughout central and southern New Jersey. He retired in 1986, when he was succeeded by his son, Robert M. Shanklin Jr. Mr. Shanklin was also a member of the MRGC.
In addition to his late wife, Ruth, Mr. Shanklin was predeceased by his brother Harry, killed in action in World War II; his brother Maurice; and his sister Mildred Windle.
Surviving are his wife, Marguerette; a son, Robert Miles Shanklin Jr. and his wife, Michaela, of Wall Township; a daughter, Barbara S. Borak and her husband, Greg, of Ocean City; and four grandchildren, R. Miles Shanklin III, Michaela E. Shanklin, Peter S. Borak and Connor S. Borak.

A memorial service was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Palm Coast.
Colin M. Baubles
Wall resident Colin M. Baubles died on June 6 in Stafford County, Va.
He was 21 years old.
Colin was born in Point Pleasant and raised in Wall. He was a graduate of Wall High School, and attended Brookdale Community College where he was on the dean’s list. Colin planned on attending Rowan University in September to major in media arts.
Colin was predeceased by his father, Peter W. Baubles Jr.
He is survived by his mother and her husband, Donna and David Fitzpatrick, of Little Egg Harbor; two brothers, Evan and Dylan, of Little Egg Harbor; six sisters, Jeanette, of Spring Lake Heights, Kimberly, of Hoboken, Alyssa, of Belmar, Breanne, Emma and Lily, of Little Egg Harbor; and his maternal grandparents, Paul and Carol Yuro, of Brick.
Interment was private at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

Charles Barrow
Manasquan resident Charles Dawson Barrow died on Friday, July 25 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
He was 53 years old.
Charlie was born in Point Pleasant and raised in Manasquan and was a lifelong resident of the Shore. He was a graduate of Manasquan High School, where he was a member of the wrestling and cross county teams.
He attended Rider College and the University of South Carolina. Charlie devoted four years to the military, serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
He was predeceased by his mother, Livia Barrow, in 2001.
Surviving are his father, Wayne C. Barrow, of Manasquan; two brothers and their wives, Wayne and Lynda Barrow, of Sea Girt, and Robert and Linda Barrow, of Portland, Ore.; and five nieces and nephews.

Philomena Lundy
Spring Lake Heights resident Philomena “Phyllis” Lundy died on Tuesday, July 29 at the home of her niece in Bayville.
She was 90 years old.
Phyllis had been employed as a Payroll Clerk for Driver-Harris Company, Harrison. Born in Ligoniel, Northern Ireland, she came to the United States in 1948 and had lived in Newark and then in Montclair for 30 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights 15 years ago. As a resident of Spring Lake Heights, she was a faithful communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake. Perhaps her niece, Rose Philomena, best expressed the love of family for Aunt Phyllis by saying, “Because Aunt Phyllis spent all her time supporting and encouraging all the children, she had no time to have her own children. So we are her children.”
She was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Brigid Fox Lundy; and her two brothers, Brian and Seamus Lundy.
Surviving are her two brothers, Patrick Lundy and his wife Elizabeth, of Weld, Maine, and Sean Lundy and his wife, Joan, of Waldwick; her sister, Catherine Mary Magdalene Twiss and her husband Richard, of Wilmington, N.C.; 16 nieces and nephews; and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to call today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial
on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.

will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair.

Catherine “Cathy” Beaton Hartwyk
Point Pleasant resident Catherine “Cathy” Beaton Hartwyk died Sunday, July 13, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 53 years old.
Cathy graduated from Point Pleasant Borough High School in 1972 and was a 25-year employee of Meridian Health.
She enjoyed living at the shore, dancing with her husband and spending time with friends and family. She looked forward to becoming a grandma.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 28 years, Douglas J. Hartwyk; daughter Kate Hartwyk and son-in-law Doug Pepe; daughter Sarah and son Brian. Also surviving are her parents, Ted and Janet Beaton; siblings Sandra Frank and her husband, Dick, Deborah Matthews and her husband, Steve, Mark Beaton and his wife, Sharpe: and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at The Old Mill, Spring Lake Heights. Arrangements are being handled by The Codey Funeral Home, Orange.

Alexander Duggan
Neptune City resident Alexander John Duggan, who was born in Point Pleasant, died on Sunday, July 13.
He was 35 years old.
Born in Point Pleasant, he was raised in Wall Township and has lived in Neptune City for five years.
Alex was a sales representative for Idearc Media, in Neptune. He was an avid surfer and was a member of the Surfrider Foundation. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School and earned a degree in history from Montclair State University.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie; three children, Rian Elizabeth, 7, Olivia Blu, 4, and Jack Michael, 1; his parents, John “Jack” A. and June Duggan, of Monticello, Ga.; brother, Glen A. Duggan and his wife, Dawn, of Atlanta; a niece, Lucy; and his great-grandmother, Lucy Cobb, of Ascot, England.
A Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated on Friday, July 18 at 10 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Lincoln Avenue, Avon.
Interment will be held at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township.

Manfred Borstelmann
Kinnelon resident Manfred Borstelmann died Wednesday, July 9, in his summer home in Mantoloking, after a courageous battle with ALS..
He was 64 years old.
Born in Germany, “Manny” was the son of Heinrich and Anita Borstelmann.
Marrying Lynn Salerno, the couple settled in Kinnelon in 1974, where they raised three children.
A marketing manager, Manny was employed by Exxon International in Florham Park until retiring in 2000.
Manny is survived by his loving wife, Lynn; his dear children, Peter Borstelmann, Carrie DeVincens and her husband, Douglas, and Kristen Piccola and her husband, Michael; his beloved mother, Anita Borstelmann; his cherished grandchildren, Jack and Wil DeVincens and Jake and Luke Piccola; and his sister, Christa Kaczyk.
The M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains, was in charge of arrangements. Cremation will be private.
