Elisa “Nena” Parga Andujar
Point Pleasant resident Elisa “Nena” Parga Andujar died Monday, July 14, in her home.

She was 85 years old.

She was a pattern maker for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, New York City, for 25 years, retiring in 1985.

Born in Cuba, she lived in Spain and New York City before moving to Point Pleasant 25 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jose Andujar, in 1999.

Surviving are a son, Jose Luis Andujar and his wife, Carol, of Point Pleasant; a daughter, Elisa Maria Farina and her husband, Jose Bernardo, of Point Pleasant; and six grandchildren, Brian, Adam, Jenna, Andrew, Cristina and Lucia.

Funeral services will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Martha’s Church, Point Pleasant. Cremation will be private.

Kathleen Conroy
Brick resident Kathleen Conroy, whose brother lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, July 10.

She attended Sacred Heart High School, Elizabeth; Rutgers University, Newark, and University College, Dublin, where she received her master’s degree in Irish literature. She was a Mid-Career Fellow at Princeton University.

She taught at both Essex County College, Newark, and Passaic County College, Paterson, for the past 34 years, retiring in 2004.

She leaves her brother, Thomas J. Conroy, of Point Pleasant; her sister, Bernadette M. Walsh, of Linden; her nephew, Owen T. Conroy, of New York; her aunt, Mary Moriarty; and two cousins, Margaret Cadigan Betz and Jack Betz, both of Brick.

Interment took place at St. Mary’s of the Lake, Lakewood. Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice McCann
Point Pleasant resident Beatrice McCann died Friday, July 11, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 75 years old.

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to the late Edward and Rose Matchekosky.

She was called to the order of The Daughters of Wisdom religious life in the medical field for 25 years as an X-ray technician and later as an occupational therapist.

She married James McCann in 1978 and settled in Point Pleasant, where she was very active in many Catholic ministries in local churches, living out a deep faith-filled life, touching everyone she came in contact with.

A beloved wife, she was predeceased by her husband, James McCann.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother, William Matchekosky and his wife, Ann, of Hooksett; N.H.; two sisters, Rosemarie Brech, of Brentwood, N.Y., and Philomena Kendrick, of North Ogden, Utah; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Matchekosky, of East Meadow, N.Y.; three brothers-in-law, John McCann and his wife, Joan, of New York City, Joseph McCann, of Whiting, Manchester, and Gerald McCann and his wife, Diana, of Los Angeles.; and many nieces and nephews.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Dominic’s School, 250 Old Squan Road, Brick, 08724, or C.E.F., Animal Rescue Foundation, c/o Karen Mills, 416 New Jersey Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742.

Robert T. Knipple
Point Pleasant resident Robert T. Knipple died Friday, June 27, in his home with his loving family at his side.

He was 83 years old.

Born in Passaic, he resided in Point Pleasant many years.

Mr. Knipple was employed as a procurement analyst at Fort Monmouth for many years before retiring.

He was a communicant of the Church of St. Uriel the Archangel, Sea Girt.

Surviving are his wife, Joan; two sons, William and Kenneth Knipple; and a daughter, April Jurewicz. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Uriel’s Church, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Robert’s name to: Joan Dancy & P.A.L.S., Riverview Medical Center, 1 Riverview Plaza, Red Bank 07701.

Mastapeter Funeral Home, Bayville, is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine D. Sharkey Clifford
Bayonne resident Catherine D. Sharkey Clifford, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, July 12, in Bayonne Medical Center, Bayonne.

She was 90 years old.

Mrs. Clifford was a homemaker. She was an active member of the St. Mary, Star of the Sea parish, serving as the first women trustee, Rosary president, bingo worker, Girl Scout leader, and also tended to the altar cloths for many years. She received the Jubilee Medal at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark, for 25 years of service to her parish, St. Mary’s.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her son, Michael; and her siblings, Joseph and Neil Sharkey, Mary Mahoney, Joanne Roberts and Helen Kelly.

She is survived by her children, Mary Beth Baxter and her husband, Jim, of Point Pleasant, Joseph M. Clifford, of Bayonne, and Robert C. Clifford and his wife, Peggy, of Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Brian, Robert and Patrick Michael Clifford, Kerri Ann Bourke and her husband, John, and James C. Baxter. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The Bayonne Memorial Home, Bayonne was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City.

Sheila L. Cancro
Point Pleasant Beach resident Sheila L. Cancro died Friday, July 11, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 76 years old.

She was a registered nurse’s aide at Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant, for 20 years, retiring in 1999.

Born in Jersey City, she lived there before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1963.

Surviving are sons, John Cancro, of Point Pleasant Beach, Peter Cancro and his wife, Linda, of Wall, and Paul Cancro and his wife, Lorraine, of Wake Forest, N.C.; a daughter, Cathleen Cancro, of Wall; a brother, Peter Loughlin and his wife, Ann, of Virginia; and nine grandchildren.

Burial will be handled privately by the family. Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Anna Fuchs
Brick resident Margaret Anna Fuchs, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, July 12.

She was 99 years old.

She was born March 6, 1909, in New Brunswick and was a daughter to Jacob Russler and Anna Rugel Russler and stepdaughter to Charles Mattner.

She attended St. John’s Catholic School, New Brunswick. She resided in Milltown before moving to Princeton Commons, Brick, in 1995.

She began her career with New Jersey Bell as an operator in 1928 and retired in 1967 as a chief operator, which at the time was one of the highest levels women could attain with the company. Margaret supervised telephone operators in several cities, including New Brunswick, Perth Amboy and Elizabeth.

During World War II, Margaret was in charge of operator services at Camp Kilmer in Piscataway. She also played a major role in the training of telephone operators in N.J. Bell’s conversion from manual to dial operation. Margaret was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of the Princeton Commons Woman’s Club.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her husband, the honorable John Fuchs; her brothers, Jacob and William Russler; her sister, Anna Russler; her brothers, Charles and Nicholas Mattner; and her grandson, Christopher Torrisi.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Victor C. Torrisi, of Point Pleasant Beach; her son and daughter-in-law, Armin and Beverly Frost, of New Hope, Pa.; two granddaughters, Laura Biel and her husband, William, of Wall, and Tammy Frost, of Doylestown, Pa.; a grandson, Justin and his wife, Emily, of Buckingham, Pa.; and five great-grandchildren, Casey and Alex Biel, and Addie, Jesse and Riley Frost.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to her caregiver, Grace Karikari, for the warm and considerate care she provided to Margaret for the past several years. Also the family wishes to thank her many friends and neighbors at Princeton Commons whose friendliness and support meant so much to Margaret.

Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to Meridian Hospice, 4900 Route 33, Suite 100, Neptune, 07753, or to St. Gregory’s Food Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742, in her memory would be appreciated.

Walter W. Endee
North Port, Fla. resident Walter W. Endee died on Friday, July 4. He leaves behind many loved ones, including family in Wall.

He was 73 years old.

He was born on Nov. 3, 1934 in Jamaica, N.Y.

Walter worked for Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company in New Jersey, retiring after 47 years of service. He moved to North Port 10 years ago from New Jersey.

Walter was a member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in North Port, and was a volunteer for five years with TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Maureen; sons, Kevin of North Port, Fla., Dennis [Lesley], of Manteo, N.C., Douglas, of Franklinville, and Lance [Debra], of Jackson; two sisters, Marilyn Smith, of Wall, and Jeri Muha, of Toms River; nine grandchildren, Michael [Carrie] Endee, Jonathan [Amy] Endee, Lisa [Jeff] Barker, Christen [Ryan] Sarlo, Lauren Endee, Zachary Endee, Tyler Endee, Marlee Endee and Isaiah Presley Endee; and four great-grandchildren, Austin Endee, Aidan Endee, Reagan Barker and Riley Barker.

Burial was held at Venice Memorial Gardens, Venice, Fla.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.

Arrangements were under the direction of Farley Funeral Home, North Port, Fla.
