Joseph H. Sprague Jr.
Jensen Beach, Fla. resident Joseph H. Sprague Jr., formerly of Point Pleasant Beach, died Thursday, Dec. 13 in his residence at Summerville Assisted Living in Jensen Beach.
He was 84 years old.
Born in Surf City, Mr. Sprague had lived in Stuart for 10 years, moving from Point Pleasant Beach.
Joseph was a 1941 graduate of Barnegat High School, and attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, majoring in civil engineering.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as chief carpenter’s mate. He served at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., England and Cherbourg, France. He also served during the D-Day invasion with the Coast Guard Rescue Flotilla in the English Channel off Normandy.
Prior to retirement, Joseph was a building contractor in New Jersey, and a member of the Monmouth County Carpenters Union Local No. 2250 in Red Bank. He was a member of the American Legion in Jensen Beach, Fla.
Mr. Sprague was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. Sprague Sr. and Elsa William Sprague; two brothers, Charles Hess and George Hess; and one sister, Elizabeth Chadwick.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine K. Sprague of Jensen Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Shelley Sprague Guerard, of Stuart, Fla.; one sister, Eva Verdoliva, of Garden Cove, Calif.; and nephew and nieces.
The Aycock Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart handled the arrangements. Interment
took place at Our Lady Queen of Peace cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, Fla.

Helen Frances Markey Rusch
Point Pleasant resident Helen Frances Markey Rusch died Sunday, Dec. 16 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
She was 91 years old.
Born in Jersey City and formerly of Bergenfield, she lived in Point Pleasant since 1952.
Mrs. Rusch was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She will be deeply missed.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest.
Surviving to cherish her memory are three daughters, Joan Wass and Pat Miller and her husband, Christian, all of Point Pleasant and Helen Phillips and her husband, Robert of Damascus, Md.; her sisters, Mary McCaffrey, Jean Murphy, Doris O’Malley, Ann Monahan, and Barbara Pasko; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant handled the arrangements. Interment
was at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

Audrey O. Bauter
Manasquan resident Audrey O. Bauter, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, Dec 12 at home in her daughter’s arms.
She was 87 years old.
Audrey was a legal secretary for several years for Patterson, Cooper, Coleman of Asbury Park.
Audrey was a lifelong resident of the shore area. She was born and raised in Point Pleasant and moved to Manasquan as a young woman to take care of her ailing grandmother.
Audrey was a member of the Manasquan Ladies Auxiliary Engine Company No. 2 for 58 years, and a member of the Shepards of Bethlehem, Wall. She enjoyed square dancing along with her husband, was an avid New York Mets fan, enjoyed to bowl in mixed leagues, and camping. She loved her cat “Moo.”
She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Lucien “Chuck” Bauter in 1984.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Hurley, of Manasquan; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Joan Bauter, of Neptune; five grandchildren, Douglas Hurley, Scott Hurley, Dawn West and her husband, Dan, Denise Bissett and her husband, Tom, and Robert Bauter and his wife, Trish; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan, Kyle and Katelynn.
The Orender Family Home for Funerals, Wall, handled the arrangements. Interment
took place at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.
James Westford Cutler, Jr.
Madison, Conn. resident James Westford Cutler, Jr., formerly of Mantoloking, died Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Middlesex Hospital Hospice.
He was 75 years old.
James graduated from University of Vermont and was a member of the Boulder Society and Sigma Phi.
Mr. Cutler was a retired Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, having served for 29 years in the Korean Conflict, Hawaii, Philippines, Japan and then at Governors Island, and New Haven.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Madison, the Madison Beach Club, the Essex Yacht Club and the Moorings Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
He was also a member of the Republican Town Committee of Killingworth.
James was predeceased by his parents, James Westford Cutler and Katherine Noble Cutler of Mantoloking, and his sister, Virginia Cutler Sparck of Palo Alto, Calif.
He was the beloved husband of Lucinda Sulzbacher Cutler; and father to three sons and their wives, James Westford Cutler III and Maura Cutler, of Madison, Alexander Charles Cutler and Laura Cutler, of Pembroke, Bermuda and Winter Harbor, Maine and Peter Noble Cutler and Dianna, of Fairfield.
He leaves behind his very beloved grandchildren James Westford Cutler IV, Mary Isabel Cutler and Lucinda Grace Cutler, of Madison, Laura Anna Cutler and Alexander Felix Cutler, of Bermuda, and Garrett Noble Cutler and Elizabeth Brooks Cutler, of Fairfield.
He is also survived by his sister, Kate Leigh Cutler, of Bay Head.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m., Saturday Dec. 22 at the First Congregational Church of Madison.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Middlesex Hospital Development Fund or Disabled Veterans of America. Arrangements are with the Hawley Lincoln Memorial, 1315 Boston Post Road, Guilford.
David W. Litwin
Point Pleasant resident David W. Litwin died Saturday, Dec. 15 in the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
He was 52 years old.
He was born in Meyersville, David was an accountant at the family business of Litwin and Litwin, Point Pleasant. He was also an entrepreneur, owning several businesses in the Ocean County area. David was a good man with a heart of gold.
Surviving are his wife, Diana; and mother and father, Libby and Mike of Fort Lee. He also left behind a brother; sisters; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins and many, many friends.
Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Gill Lake, Iselin, Woodbridge, handled the arrangements.

Michael Gallagher
Point Pleasant resident Michael Gallagher died Friday, Dec. 14 in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va.
He was 56 years old.
Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Toms River and had lived in Point Pleasant for 19 years.
A self-employed drywall finisher, Mike enjoyed bowling, and was an avid New York Yankees fan.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Gallagher; and his stepfather, Daniel Frew.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 23 years, Faith Martin Gallagher; three children, Hope Hines and her husband, Toby, Ami Gallagher and her boyfriend, Matthew Lukacs, and Jason Gallagher; his mother, Jean Frew; his sisters and brothers and their spouses, Janet and Rocco Iossa, Kathy Kelly, Maureen and Ed Allen, Patrick and Joann Gallagher, Joseph and Joan Gallagher, and Margaret Gallagher; two grandchildren, Shelby and Zach, and a third granddaughter is expected in April.
The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant handled the arrangements. Interment
was at Barnegat Memorial Cemetery.

Joan M. McCabe McCann
Point Pleasant resident Joan M. McCAbe McCann died Saturday, Dec. 15 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
She was 56 years old.
Born in South Orange, she lived in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Point Pleasant 20 years ago.
Mrs. McCann owned and operated with her daughter, Gourmet Delights Catering and the Stone Soup Cafe, both in Point Pleasant.
She volunteered her restaurant as a drop off location for the refugees of Kosovo, where she collected huge volumes of clothing for families in need. Joan will always be remembered for bringing the family together for the yearly reunion at Otter Lake Campground in Pennsylvania.
Mrs. McCann was predeceased by her parents, Carroll “Mac” and Eileen “Gabby” McCabe.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Tom P.; two daughters, Kate Ann and her fiance, Brian Doherty, of Point Pleasant, and Lauren Elizabeth, of Point Pleasant; a son, Conor Patrick, of Point Pleasant; a sister, Elizabeth S. McCabe, of Spring Lake Heights; a brother, Robert A. McCabe and his wife Sherry, of Dingmans Ferry, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Robert Grieb, of Brick; a grandson, Adaidan Quinn Doherty; and several nieces and nephews.
The Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan was in charge of arrangements. Interment
took place in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.
