Kenneth J. Pringle
Belmar resident Kenneth J. Pringle passed away on Saturday, May 31 at his home after a brief illness.
He was 76 years old.
Born in North Arlington and raised in Belmar, he attended Manasquan High School, and was a proud graduate of Belmar Elementary School, where he played on the undefeated eighth grade basketball team. He was proud of his service in the United States Marine Corps, where he started on the U.S. Marine Corps Basketball Team and qualified as a Distinguished Expert with the M 1 Carbine. He was equally proud of his years of service as a Belmar lifeguard.
He was a lifelong communicant on St. Rose Church, in Belmar.
He was a licensed electrical contractor and, along with his wife, Marion, operated Kenny Electric for more than 48 years, most of those years from the home on Oakwood Road in West Belmar, where they raised their family. He continued to do small jobs for his customers even after he became terminally ill.
Kenny was a wonderful and devoted husband who helped with the dishes every evening of his marriage and insisted on taking care of the laundry right up until he entered the hospital for the last time. He was a loving, affectionate and proud father who never missed his sons’ games, or an opportunity to spend time with them. He was an amazing “Pop-Pop” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored. And they were just as crazy about him.
He loved people, especially children. He coached recreation basketball teams in Belmar even before his sons were old enough to play. His teams, the Blue Angels, the Warriors and the Chuckers, all won championships, even though he insisted that every member of his team play half the game. After his sons were raised, Kenny and Marion cared for a succession of foster children, some of whom continue to remain close. Throughout his life, Kenny went out of his way to help others in need, even strangers. His countless acts of kindness and thoughtfulness to others over the years are a rich legacy he has left his family and his community.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Gladys Pringle; his in-laws, E. John and Helen Juska; his older brothers, Jack and Bill; and his only sister, Gladys.
He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 54 years, Marion; his sons, Kenneth E. and his wife, Kathleen Ellis, Brian and his wife, Susan, and Chris and his wife, Theresa, all of Belmar; his former daughter-in-law, Anita Riley and her husband, John, of Sea Girt; his brothers, Bob and Rich Pringle; and his brothers-in-law, Ed, John, Bill and Tom Juska.
He will be deeply missed by all, especially his grandchildren, Kenneth J. “KJ” Pringle II, of Sea Girt, and Jack, Culli, Hannah, Chloe and Madison Pringle, of Belmar; his step-grandchildren, Brian Ellis and his wife, Carrie, of Pennington, Erin Callahan and her husband, Brian, of Melrose, Mass., and Emily Ellis, of Belmar; his four great-grandchildren, Madeline, Kate, Kevin and Declan; and by his many nephews and nieces on the Pringle and Juska sides of his family. The family is especially grateful to Dr. Joseph Mannion, Dr. Peter Mencel and all the nurses and aides at Jersey Shore University Medical Center for their compassion and professionalism, and the wonderful way they took care of him.
Interment was held at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, in Wall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that each of his family members and friends follow his example and honor his memory by performing an act of kindness to someone in need.
Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of the arrangements.
